I'm not sure if having three separate threads about the same guy's work is too many. I don't wanna get Garlador'd, lol...but I thought I'd risk it because I honestly think this is a subject best kept separate from the art thread and the scripts because it's not about novelizing the games that already exist like those are, it's about what I'm going to do AFTER I write/draw MK Armageddon.
I.E. pure fanfic, stuff that comes ENTIRELY from thin air/fan imagination and has no basis at all in adapting the actual games' canon.
---
So I suppose it's no secret that my MK2 work has fallen a bit on the backburner the past couple months. Generally, when I get writer's/artist's block, I like to switch gears and think about something else for a while so that maybe whatever I'm stuck with will feel fresh and exciting again when I come back to it.
To that end, I've been spending a lot of time at work lately, in those boring moments where I don't have any actual work to do, thinking about the Post-Armageddon fanfic trilogy that I've mentioned before. The stuff I intend to do to "complete" the story of the Mortal Kombat universe because, while Armageddon was supposed to do that, it was in no way the proper environment to give most of the characters a satisfying conclusion to their life's stories. They didn't even TRY to give anybody an ending that made sense, much less a happy one.
Anyway, I've been sort of avoiding spoiling any of that for a long time, but I'm sort of at a point where I'm stuck there too in a way that I feel requires some outsider input. Specifically, what I'm talking about is the fact that I'm not great at coming up with new characters. Names and stuff like that, I don't particularly have much aptitude for. And hey, most of MK1 and 2's cast may have been invented by Tobias alone, but guys like Sektor, Cyrax, Kabal, and Sindel were created by committee and they turned out great.
So I thought if I shared some things (and I'll try to be a little vague about actual plot so that, like I said, not much is spoiled), you guys might be willing/able to add to the idea pool. After all, there's been a lot of threads lately about community-built characters and Hanky wanting help designing Khrome's costume and stuff like that.
---
So let's talk about...the first one. (I can't call them MK8, 9, and 10 because those are already kinda taken by the real games...)
I know I've said before that the main villain of the trilogy is Dark Raiden, but he actually doesn't have a significant role in the first one, he's more what 2 and 3 are about, to slowly build up his threat.
The villain of the first one, because I wanted to make Seido and Chaosrealm more important to the MK universe, is the God of Chaos.
Or rather, the Chaos God has been sealed away in sort of a stasis/slumber since he created Chaosrealm, because the Elder Gods weren't too happy about it, and so the primary villains for most of the plot are a trio of wizard/sage-ly type dudes who intend to awaken him-or-her and unleash him-or-her on the realms.
Now, these three guys are pretty much the least developed of my ideas. The leader is a Seidan who, for some yet-unwritten tragic reason, has abandoned his belief in law and order and converted to chaos.
For the second, all I have written in my notes is "a White Mage, but Evil". So, sort of a kind, priestly dude with healing/helping-people powers. For motivation, I was thinking he's either an ex-Shadow Priest or an ex-Brother of the Shadow who feels abandoned/betrayed by the repeated failures of whatever god he previously worshipped, be it Kahn or Shinnok.
The third guy is intended to be the opposite number of Bo' Rai Cho, an old kung fu master who trains villains. Either an Outworlder or Edenian betrayer, I picture him as having been the guy Shao Kahn hired to teach Kitana and Mileena the arts of assassination when they were young.
So...I don't have names, appearance ideas, or a whole lot of depth for either of these three characters. Even gender is negotiable, quite frankly.
---
Moving on to the heroes...I have roughly four planned for the first game.
To introduce the first two, I have to spoil a bit of my plans for Sub-Zero. What I'm picturing is that the new Lin Kuei's recruitment methods are an inversion of the old ones, where instead of kidnapping kids born with powers, Subbie is inviting people with powers to join so they can train to understand and control their shit and use it to defend Earthrealm, almost like a ninja version of the X-Men's school. But over time, since Earth is already defended by the White Lotus and Special Forces, Sub has been debating moving the clan to Outworld, and using them to turn the home realm of his ancestors into a place of peace instead of the wartorn shithole without any heroes of its own that it's always been. And among his students there is opposition to that because, y'know, Earthrealm is their home. And I came up with two Lin Kuei characters to sort of depict what's going on in the clan.
The first playable student is a guy with magnetism powers. I've been debating on several names for him like "Rust", "Mercury", and even "Khrome" briefly, before Hanky claimed that one for himself and ran off the deep end with it, lol. My favorite, I think, the one I'm gonna finalize, is "Lodestone".
Lodestone is sort of the face of the opposition to Sub's plan to move to Outworld, but don't get me wrong, he respects his Sifu, he's not a future villain like Frost. He's just young and argumentative. In fact, I'm imagining he might have joined the clan around the same time Frost did and there'd be a rivalry between them should she ever show back up since she was the teacher's pet before she went bad.
The other student is a girl with water powers. She's the granddaughter of Old Lin Kuei member Hydro. (Who I mentioned will cameo in MK2 and 3. My concept is that the reason Hydro was made the first, and failed, prototype cyberninja is because he was getting on in years and no longer useful to the clan. Hence, GRANDdaughter)
I don't want to call her "Hydro" too though 'cause names that end in O sound manly. And "Hydra" means something completely different, so...yeah, this is an area I could use help.
Backstory-wise, I'm thinking Hydro kept his family a secret so the clan wouldn't abduct them...but years down the line, Sektor's Tekunin found her and tried to automate her. She was rescued, but not before the initial experiments, so she's a little bit brain damaged (think River from Firefly). The reason I went this way was to sort of have a reason why these two are teamed up. Lodestone's got this overprotective big brother or potential love interest thing going on with her 'cuz his magnetic powers make him a natural for keeping her safe from their Tekunin rivals (at least until later models start using ceramic/plastic armor...)
Water chick is also sort of a major plot device in that the main villains want to sacrifice her to the Chaos God. Because, y'know, Chaosrealmers worship water.
Anyway, other than them, I figured with Liu dead and everyone else getting old, I could use a new White Lotus member, like a young student of Kung Lao. I'm thinking female, but I particularly need some advice here on how to not make her just another Liu Kang or Kai or Li Mei.
I've also got plans for a Kira-led version of the Black Dragon (Kabal dies in Armageddon, probably at the hands of Sonya or Stryker, someone who'd be super-pissed he went bad again after they became friends in MK3). The relevance being I've an idea for a new member who'd be sort of not that bad or want to switch sides 'cause Kira's too strict. I'm picturing more of a Johnny Cage-esque comedy relief guy here, or like, Jack Black's character from Brutal Legend, or Rufus from Street Fighter except not fat and dumb lookin', just sort of a big buff metalhead/biker type of guy. I'd like someone who has sort of rock and roll/stage performance themed special moves, like he slides on his knees and pyro shoots out of the ground in a trail behind him or he plays air guitar and lightning strikes people, something silly like that.
I actually have a name for this guy, I'm thinking "Solomon Rhodes", because it can be shortened into at least two different pun-based nicknames: "Solo" (as in guitar solo) or "Rhodey" (as in a roadie who carries a band's gear). I kinda like "Solo" better of the two 'cuz "Rhodey" makes me think of War Machine, but there you go.
I have more character ideas but they'll probably appear in game 2 and 3, so for now I'd like to focus on fleshing out these 7, if anybody's interested in helping out.

Hey Razor, I have tons of ideas for each of these characters you proposed, but in order to flesh them out, could you please tell all the characters you are going to include in the first game besides these? Because parts of my ideas are depending who they interact with... For example, the guy who is not that bad in Dragon Clan and opposes Kira should be interacting with Special Forces, therefore either with Cyrax or Sonya. But I remember you didn't include Sonya in the first game,so there's that.

Its similar, but in that thread it was more of a general discussion on where MK Lore could be heading and people's thoughts on it.
This is more for helping Razor fill some holes he is having in his PostArmageddon fanfic (that looks to be awesome).
I do like your idea on Sub-Zero moving the Lin Kuei to his ancestral realm, plus once Raiden becomes the bad guy it'll be the other realms in danger for once instead of Earthrealm.
As Razor is the MK Lore master, and I loved the story of Deadly Alliance and half of Deception, I'm really looking towards seeing where he thinks the story should go.

For Kung Lao's student, she could be training to be the best in order to kill as many evil being as possible; the opposite of Liu Kang who tries to avoid killing. And for the name, how about Masakura? Mal (bad in Spanish) shortened like in Mavado and combined with Sakura (Japanese for cherry blossom, I think) to show that she appears soft and friendly.
For the Lin Kuei characters, when you mentioned Hydra I imagined her to be able to contort multiple streams of water at once like ropes. So perhaps Hydra could be her name? And I think Mercury should be able to poison his enemies over time if they stand to close to him (kind of like Scorpion's character trait in Injustice).
I'm really liking your ideas for the final trilogy.

What ever happened to Epic Eagle Man (that's what I label him) from that ridiculous MK Defenders of the Realm show? Seriously I would love to know where these eagle-like humanoids came from and why they settled and lived in Edenia. It's funny I have this parallel of him with the Eagles from Lord of the Rings because these birds solved ALL of the heroes' problems in the final battle and they could have been used to just fly the heroes above the lava pit and drop the ring instead of Frodo taking a long journey on ground.
In fact IMAGINE if Raiden would have hired a mercenary unit of super buff eagle men, they would solved all of Earthrealm's problems such as defeating the Deadly Alliance instead of Kung Lao and Kitana or steal all of the Kamidogu and beat the shit out of Onaga XD

Well...it's ancient, like you said, so bumping it would be against the rules.
Also, It's in the Future Games forum, which is the wrong place for fanfic. At least, fanfic that has absolutely zero chance of being what the next game is about IRL.
The stuff I posted in that thread's a pretty good hint of what I'm still planning for most of the returning characters, but some ideas have changed over time. For example, the fact that back then I wasn't a fan of and had no plans for Mileena, but now I have rather major ones revolving around her being the heir to Kahn's throne, and thus being a faction in the struggle for control of Outworld along with Reiko, Sub-Zero, Ermac, and Skarlet (who didn't even exist yet back then.)
I don't want to spoil any surprises, so understand that there are a couple secret characters not on this list (and that some of the characters you'll see me talk about like Sektor and Daegon are in Game 2 or 3), but here's the returning roster planned for Game 1:
Scorpion
Sub-Zero
Kung Lao
Mileena
Smoke
Jade
Cyrax
Ermac
Fujin
Reiko
Tanya
Kenshi
Drahmin
Hsu Hao
Kira
Havik
Sareena
Taven
Skarlet

lol, I think at this point it's pretty safe to say Canon Outworld and Edenia don't have eagle-men.
P.S. pretty sure the reason they wait till the end to use the eagles in LotR is 'cause Sauron would have seen them coming from miles away and had his Ringwraiths and their riding dragons knock Frodo out of the sky. He HAD to be sneaky to make it into Mordor.

Well yeah, it only makes sense to be reasonable...plus a lot of dudes had to die or else it's not much of an "Armageddon", is it? (And Hell being better guarded so the dead mostly stay dead is a plot element.)
I think the total number of returning characters, over all three, will come to 30 (not counting the occasional NPC like Johnny Cage who survived but stays retired...because honestly, hasn't Johnny died enough times already? lol). And a few of them don't survive over the course either, naturally.
And I only have like 16 new characters total, counting the 8 listed here. (I said 7 in the first post, but I forgot to count the Chaos God himself, whose name and design details should probably also be included in the brainstorming. And before anyone suggests it, no we're not calling him "Zaggot"...)

Years back, shortly after Deception was released I had some ideas about the ruler of Chaosrealm becoming a villain so I'm really glad I wasn't the only one with that thought.
Did you have any plans for Belokk? Could be a good reuse of a shell that you could mold into an actual character. Plus I do kind of like the idea of a demon looking dark cleric. Could potentially be a MK4 version of Blaze(mk2) in the Razorverse.

Given that Belokk is as tall as Goro, I always figured him for more of a brute-strength subboss type character.
lol disregard that, didn't look close enough at his pics lately and forgot how tall he was. Though I still like the idea of the former Brotherhood of the Shadow member making a cameo in MK4razorverse
As for name, I'd say Deacon/Deakon (gotta love the K's), but that seems to normal lol.

Is "Riptide" too on the nose for a female water user of the Lin Kuei?

0
I wouldn't say too on the nose at all, but it does sound kind of masculine, if that makes sense? Like, I hear that name and I picture it belonging to a dude.

About Me

I think it's androgynous enough to fall into that same line as Chameleon.

About Me
"Sonya Blade, this is Grandmaster Sektor of the Tekunin Clan. Our consciousness is no longer bound to flesh."

A few 'watery' words you might be able to do some cryomancy-editing on, not sure how helpful they are though, Razor:
- Naiad: Naiads are nymphs in Greek mythology associated with lakes, fountains, rivers etc who supposedly had healing powers. The word also is used for a genus of aquatic plant.
- Aqueous (fairly self explanatory, something containing, dissolved in, or mostly made up of water).
- Sluice: Water channel, usually artificial, that is controlled by a valve or gate.
- Flume: Narrow gorge with a stream that goes thru it.
...and I ran out haha. There's also just plain ol' Aqua too. Hopefully I've struck some kinda helpful synapses here.
How about Kappa? It means "water" in Japanese and also relates to the cucumber-eating turtle-like demon from Japanese lore. Or you can do Kusshi after that Loch Ness equivalent purported to reside in a lake in Hokkaido.
But that would be too easy. How about something Korean like Akeki which is my corruption of the Korean word for liquid which is pronounced aek chi. I know I don't want to make a big issue over this, but I seem to notice from most characters that they're either influenced oriental by Chinese and Japanese culture. What's wrong with having a Korean-inspired name or character? I know Chinese and Japanese culture both have badass warrior cultures, but Korea has also bred some asskickers because it was constantly attempting to be INVADED all the time. Kim Yushin was this 7th century general that unified all of Korea's kingdoms and kicked the Chinese's Tang Enpire from attempting to invade it and Admiral Yi Soon Shin who with his small, but efficient armada destroyed Toyotomi Hideyoshi's, a Japanese shogun ENTIRE invading naval fleet in a series of battles. I'm not trying to rant for more diversity for EVERY kombatant, but if Mortal Kombat is being an Orient-themed story, they should at least acknowledge the presence of OTHER Asian cultures such as the Koreans because not everything has to involve only Chinese and Japanese. That's what Hollywood martial arts movies do all the time and they're pretty repetitive once you watch them over and over again. Please care to disagree with this point.
Other name I can propose are Yo Jung (Korean for "nymph") or Mul La (mul is the Korean word for water)

Well you raise a point about other Asian countries like Korea, but for that matter, nothing says she has to be Asian. There's lots of ethnicities that're underrepresented in MK.
Though it might make more sense to have her actual proper name be in her native tongue and her codename to be English because, y'know, that's what they all do.
Except Cyrax and his gibberish-ass robot name...

I've had my own fictional universe created over years that hasn't been written in print yet and I have one of the characters named Kyoteki. It means "formidable rival" in Japanese. Maybe you can apply that to the God of Chaos or one of his disciples regardless of gender? I've been hoping this name would be useful for someone besides myself...

Hey Razor. Cool thread. I just want to throw in a bit of stuff for you to help as best as I can.
For the water-wielding Lin Kuei, how does the name "Thalassa" sound? It's Greek for "sea", and I think it could have a matching motif since Hydro is a word derived from Greek.
For the female student under Kung Lao, my advice is to give her quirks, especially to play off of Kung Lao's personality.
For the Chaos beings affiliated with the God of Chaos, you suggested the possibility of one of them being the one that trained Kitana and Mileena. Why not use the martial arts sorceress concept from MK: DA's Krypt? I used that for a character I came up with for the post-MKA story that OverlordParagon and I did years ago.
For another of the Chaos trio, you mentioned something about a possible ex-Shadow Priest or something like that. I came up with a concept for a sort of voodoo type character name Gituku a while back. Perhaps at least his name would appeal to you?
For the leader of the Chaos trio, I would probably go with a Japanese name as there seems to be something of a Japanese influence with (at least) the Seidan Guards. Then again, perhaps he changed his name to forge a new identity based on his belief in chaos. As for the name of the God of Chaos, I can understand you not wanting to name him "Zaggot", as that does sound terrible.

Well you can't use Aqua as that is already associated with a rumor character in the MK lore. With Transformers on my mind, I thought of Slipstream.
And what if the god of chaos has like a name that was scrambled/anagram?
Hacos
Socah
Hosac
Oshac (eel oneel)
Shaoc
Casho

Okay regarding the trio of bosses:
The leader,Seidan Guard, since he converted to chaos,I believe the first place he would like to unleash Chaos God would be Orderrealm. Maybe the reason he converted was because he felt betrayed by his homeland that he can't forgive? I believe you should create some subplot about him infiltrating Orderrealm from inside with his evil buddies. Maybe,I don't know, since there is Chaos God,the trio would try to deactivate ANY means for Orderrealmers to summon Order God? Like steal some artifact from order temple, highly secured place filled with Seidans that will prevent any hope for Seidans against Chaos God?
I believe that you should have ex-Shadow Priest instead of ex-Brotherhood member, because I figure it would be easier to relate him to your evil martial arts teacher. Remember where Kitana and Mileena mainly trained? That's right,Evil Monastery, the place where Shadow Priests had hung out. So I guess it would be more interesting for this ex-Priest to meet this "evil Bo Rai Cho" long time ago. And maybe after Kahn and Shang Tsung are no more and he wanders realms,he meets this Seidan and decides to help him. He eventually proposes to recruit this martial expert to their cause.
The Shadow Priest should have this sorcerer spot for this game filled previously by Quan Chi and Shang Tsung. What if,since Tanya is the new sorcerer character too,we clash them together in the finale? It would kind of show how Tanya stacks up magically against other sorcerers and how badass she became. Plus,it would be refreshing to see this traitor bitch to do something good. But you would ask what motivation she has to interfere in this whole business? It is simple,if Chaos God is to be unleashed he will put all the realms into absolute chaos. Plus knowing how unpredictable beings of Chaos are, there is no guarantee Chaos God would need her assistance and if he would not kill her right away,so she decides to help good guys just this time, much to Jade's dismay. Or maybe even team up both Tanya and Jade to take down this Shadow Priest?
I would propose for Kung Lao and his new student to take down this "Evil Bo Rai Cho" (can I call him that for now lol?). Like Kung Lao heard stories about him from Bo Rai Cho or Kitana long time ago (MKDA times flashback lol?) and how he uses his gifts for evil purposes and trains people to kill, which disgusts Kung Lao and his Shaolin beliefs. You can even have this master kidnap Kung Lao's student and he will try to show her how it is awesome not to hold back. This young fragile female student will be very tempted because I picture her very hot tempered,so there is appeal for her,but she refuses to join him.
Another question is what do you plan to do with Havik? Would he like to help the trio to summon Chaos God? Or maybe he feels they are doing it too systematic and organized that he feels Chaos God would not want it this way and opposes them?
I have more regarding your new good guys, but want to sort out these guys first.

Some good ideas there, particularly how if the mage is a Shadow Priest, he'd have a more logical relationship with the Evil Teacher, and I like the idea of the teacher trying to lure Kung Lao's student to the dark side. On the other hand though, I wonder if a BotS priest wouldn't be more original, since we've seen Shadow Priests before both as background characters and Shang being one, but we've never actually seen a worshipper of Shinnok who genuinely believes in the religion of the fallen god, only soldiers and people using it to their own advantage like Noob, Reiko, and Quan Chi. Plus I kinda like the idea of these three guys all coming from different backgrounds and having not known each other before until however it is they met and formed this plan of ending the universe in chaos together, like maybe fate or some force like the God himself drew them to him from different lives and corners of the universe. (Also, an argument could be made that the Evil Teacher himself is a former Shadow Priest since he worked for Kahn in the Evil Monastery.)
To answer your question about Havik, he'll oppose the badguys. They're all sort of insane with grief or nihilists and hoping the Chaos God destroys the realms, but Havik would know that the end of everything would bring an end to chaos and freedom too.
