Best part of Annihilation
We all know the movie was horrible. Bad fighting, bad acting, horrible special effects.......the dreadful ANIMALITY playdoh project.
Was it all bad or was there at least one good part that was mildly entertaining?
For me I actually enjoyed the battle between Cyrax and Jax. While I hate the character jax, The actor who played him was funny in this scene in particular. Cyrax had a great line "Death is the only way out". Cyrax had a good costume (way better than the plastic human ninja suits). The fight it self wasn't great but not too bad and the fatality was pretty cool. The music for the battle was also good.
Movie overall was beyond horrible but that scene is still pretty solid.

loved that movie as a child, like it now. I agree the Jax fight was cool. I liked Cyrax's little flip onto the table and jax's body shots. cyrax was like "dooh" "yea now WHAT!""cybernetic stupid ass, get SOME!"

As a kid. I really enjoyed it, cause it was a Mortal Kombat movie and I wasn't picky. I am glad I didn't look at movies back then, as I do now. It would have made a lot of movies hard to watch. So, with that being said. I don't hate it.
Best part of it though. Them showing scenes from the first one at the beginning. Then when you realized different actors were playing parts. It hurt the movie for me.

Pffff...
Even as a kid I thought it sucked. I was in the 4th grade and managed to notice all of the following:
- Scorpion shows up for one fight and disappears.
- Sub-Zero shows up for one fight and disappears.
- Nightwolf shows up for a few seconds and disappears.
- Rain has a pathetic role in the film.
- Jade has a cool yet insignificant fight scene and dies like a sucker.
- Sheeva's death scene was a huge disappointment.
- The Tarkatan costumes and fight scenes were pathetic.
- There was no fucking Sektor!
- Johnny Cage dies like an insignificant cast member.
- Stryker and Kabal are only MENTIONED... if anything Stryker should have died the way Cage did.
- Jax was thugnificant in everything he said or did; I could NOT take him seriously.
- Raiden's "new outfit" he changes into makes him look stupid.
- The martial arts training of both Kitana and Sindel were horrific
- The animalities of Kang and Kahn looked like shit, and so did the fight scene between the two turd-molded monsters.
All of these were obvious things any kid could have noticed. How did these NOT ruin the film for you? More importantly what made the movie so great for you? Were you just sitting there watching all the "magnificent" special effects and being turned on by the fact they crammed in so many characters in one film all the while munching on popcorn and sipping your soda wearing a MK shirt and baseball cap?
I honestly don't think you were really watching the film. You left the theater with the same mindset you went into the theater: "OMG DIS MOOVEE IZ LYK TOTALLY AWESOME!!"

I remember some movie magazine misidentified the short-haired Raiden as Johnny Cage and I freaked out, 'cause Cage was my favorite character in the first film. Cue later disappointment when I found out that was not the case.
Best part of the movie? Hm. I think it has to be Cyrax/Jax/Sonya. I actually liked the use of sound and music in it, and Sonya's lines worked ("Nice look but I'd lose the wall" and "Does this mean what I think it does?"). Plus, it was one of the longest fights in the whole movie, second to the Liu Kang-Kahn showdown.
Worst part (okay, ONE of the worst parts): Egad, Ermac's pathetic excuse for a fight scene at the end. It's literally the shortest one in the entire movie at a whopping 50 seconds. No joke.

Best: the hilarious sexual dialogue.
Worst: too much to name!!!
Worst: too much to name!!!
1.) The MUSIC KICKED ASS. I still listen to the soundtrack all the time.
2.) Mileena's fight scene was pretty cool. "Kitana?" "You wish." Suddenly, out of nowhere, in the valleys with nobody around for miles, Mileena has shown up out of nowhere to kill you with her twin sais. The music selected was perfect. It was cool. The movie managed to have not even a drop of blood and so no heart attack controversy was generated.
3.) Jade was BETTER in the movie than the game!! Cooler outfit. No mask. Personality gets to expand and evolve beyond the template she was in MK2.
Not to complain, but in MK2, at the last minute they added some hidden characters made from basic templates. Smoke - wears gray. Jade - wears green. Noob Saibot - all black. Knowing nothing about their backstory, at first, they were just there. Quickly, they evolve - they appear in the comics, they appear in the movies, they appear in the cartoon, and in no time at all the characters have been stretched and evolved to a point where they're full of life and are no longer merely characters wearing colors. In the games, Jade really is just a lady in green. This movie really did expand Jade into an all-star character up there with Sub-Zero or Scorpion.
Basically everyone I knew agreed that Jade was a high point of the film.
And Jade in her underwear. Who didn't like that? Now, think about this. The Nudeality rumors you argued with other kids about, when you were a kid? Maybe MK Annihilation had that underwear scene to bring the Nudeality to life.
MK: Annihilation DID get some things right. It delivered a lot of action and a lot of characters. It did not deliver long, boring silence with few characters. In the first 5 minutes, Shao Kahn is destroying the Shaolin temples, along with Sindel, Sheeva, Motaro, Ermac, and Rain heading the extermination squads, mostly made of ninjas wearing all black.
That was the other thing. Ninjas wearing all black. Many of them. Now in Mortal Kombat. That was a concept that never made its way into MK1 - "Ninja", who wears all black. Only ninjas that wear every color BUT black are in MK. If you've seen the 1990 TMNT movie, the ninjas wore all black, and were human, like the comic books - not like the cartoon show's purple robot ninjas. This is MK's first use of many ninjas wearing all black.
We got to see not just one God, Raiden . . . but also his answering to his higher authority, the Elder Gods. At the end, he graduates to one of them, mirroring his MK4 ending.
Jax asks "So if you're a God . . . then what does that make Kahn?" A nice combination of contemporary, cool, high-tech (metal arms), and yet still mythological, Emperor.
Jax was likeable. He's mostly "the funny guy" but was also serious at times. Not EVERY line from him was a joke. Less of a jokester than Cage had been. You had the feeling like you had met him a few times and he was a funny guy, who will not hesitate to kick someone's ass for someone he loves. And, come on. The Jax/Sonya friendship is always somewhat touching.
I still think some of the special effects looked like claymation or crap at times and some of the film just did not have that fluid, appealing look of the first movie. However, the purple sky was interesting. Unique. The destruction of the Shaolin temples by Shao Kahn . . . was . . . interesting. It was more consistent with the ending of the first movie, and fluidly segweyed it into the second story. That was well done. I just wish it had involved Baraka and the others of his kind, like in MK2.
That was one problem. You never saw a bunch of Shokan, a bunch of Centaurs, a bunch of robots, just one of each. However, they did work in a scene of many Raptors. Not necessarily Reptile, but several Raptors. So, they had a LOT of stuff happen in one movie. A LOT. To add several Raptors, who are native to Outworld, was an extra mile the movie ran.
Another thing that DID KICK ASS: Shao Kahn vanishing from sight, and, while gone, you hear his voice ringing through the air: "ANNIHILATE THEM!!!" Thus explains how, no matter what level you're playing in, you can still hear Shao Kahn's laughter, or his taunting.
Jade, again, was a high point of the movie. In this movie, you can't always be sure who will turn out to be good or evil, and you care about Jade, and at some point, you have this pretty cool team of Liu Kang, Kitana, Jax, Jade. Just those four. In the games, Jade is tan. I don't think she has really developed a personality beyond what she was in MK2. MK Annihilation, which removes her mask, lightens her tan skin to Chinese, and simplifies her outfit a bit, brings Jade into that A+ level.
The movie was just missing many Tarkatans, and explanations as to several characters, like Baraka and Mileena.

When I look back, there's only two things about Annihilation I liked:
1) The soundtrack - though all my favorite songs from it played during the credits, not the actual movie.
and 2) Raiden and Kahn doing special moves from the game to each other in the first scene.
Some of Jax's lines when he was bickering with Sonya in the desert were funny, though.

That's actually an tough one for me because I'm one of the few (only one? O.o) that genuinely loves this movie. Even after I noticed the flaws and problems, I still find it entertaining.
I guess I'd say either the Sonya/Jax/Cyrax fight scene or the Sub-Zero/Scorpion fight scene.
Honestly though I like how they incorporated numerous characters in, even if it was just an cameo or small mentioning. I know the changes suck like Cyrax and Smoke being reprogrammed by Kahn or Jade being the bad guy, But at least they tried to fit them in for fans' sake.
