As many of you know I have been searching for an HBO First Look program on the 1995 film based on a tidbit that has been listed on IMDB for a while. Based on years of extensive research and discussions with fellow Kombat friends, I am ready to concede and conclude that the search is over... because this program never existed in the first place... and was the mere confusion of a fan intertwining two scenes together and making an ill-fated inference, or was simply a false rumor.
Evidence to support my claim:
1. This TV Spot could be inferred as Scorpion falling onto a spike after having his head swiped (although it's really Shang I understand the confusion):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yBrKX-5jegw I wonder too if maybe a fan didn't confuse the spear impale with a spike. 2. No behind the scenes materials in existence, from the script drafts to the CD-ROM to the magazine, book, or either behind the scenes documentaries even hint that this even could exist. In fact originally Johnny Cage just jumped-kicked Scorpion and the fight stopped there. The fiery fatality-friendship was added later.
3. The only true evidence of a missing scene that could have existed, that did not even appear partly in the film, was Sonya fighting a monk with black cue marks on him.
So without further ado, based on existing evidence and lack of evidence, I conclude this never happened.
I did recently acquire quite a few TV guides from 1995 but so far no mention of any HBO first look programs in the TV listings of ANY film.
