Mortal Kombat 3 has been in legal limbo for quite some time, and once that's over with, pre-production will begin soon. With a recent update on the official MK site, asking feedback from MK fans, it's obvious this film is aimed to please the fans of the series.

What's known is that Christopher Lambert will reprise his role as Rayden. Linden Ashby is definately interested, and stated that the script if very good in a recent interview.

The role of Sonya is in question, however; Sandra Hess is rumored to already be signed on for this film, but fans want Bridgette Wilson, from the first MK film, to reprise her role. Hudson Leick, who portrayed Callisto in TV's Xena, is also rumored to be a candidate for Sonya.

Quan Chi is confirmed to be the main villain of the movie, and chances are that Adoni Maropis will reprise that role (he portrayed Quan Chi in MK: Conquest, and was praised by MK fans for his excellent rendition of that role).

This film will be the most ambitious of them all, as John Wexler (director of MKA) has stated that this film will revolutionize the fighting genre.

The latest we've heard is that filming will begin in November, but because of the lack of updates, this seems untrue. The rumored release date as of now is around summer-fall 2004, meaning this might coincide with MK6, which would be a very good marketing strategy.

Could you go into more detail about the "legal limbo"? Is there a rights problem or something? This is news to me.
Actually it's old news; It's no secret Threshold DOESN'T want new line to be involved in the project, as they were repsonsible for MKA'S cheasiness (bad acting, choice of hunderes of fights instead of story, etc). Linden Ashby already confirmed the movie is in legal limbo.

Basically, once Threshold gets the rights to make the film, then production will begin. Unfortunately, this stuff happens behind the scenes, therefore there's no way we'll when this issue will be resolved; Like Spider Man, it could take a matter of weeks, or unfortunately, years. Of course, we're hoping for sooner than later.

Thanks for the update.

I just hope they deliver a fantastic masterpiece and i don't care how much time it would cost.

I loved the fact that QuanChi could be the new villain, i really really liked him in MKC but they have to use that costume instead of the MKDA costume
Quan Chi WILL be the new villain, count on it. This was CONFIRMED by Threshold some time ago. Most likely Adoni Maropis from MKC will reprise that role. And I agree that he should use the same costume from MKC/MK4, but NOT from MKDA.

Since Quan Chi is the main villian does this mean Sub-Zero's/Scorpion's roles be more significant? and I agree wit the Quan Chi costume thing...it should remain like it was in MKC/MK4
I've heard from sources aplenty that Sub-Zero will play a much more significant role compared to the previous films.

Interesting. Sounds good. In MKA, I didn't like how Sub-Zero had an extremely short role (and the same goes for Rain and Scorpion).

The 2 quan chi's played in MKC and MKM are not played by the same actor. Personally I liked the MKC actor better, he looked meaner.

we have gotten all the rights back from New Line - Threshold will be in control!

This was taken from a chat on the Mortalkombat.com website a while back with Joshua Wexler, and is what i have been saying for ages if people just heeded my words of wisdom. Jeff Meek is a strong chance to return, and yes, Quan Chi will be a major player. It was McDaniel, not Josh who said it'll be about Subby. Also, Hudson as Sonya isnt really a rumour, as something is not a rumour when you're the one starting it. People don't second guess anything about this new movie. i seriously have my doubts as to whether it will happen. unless it comes through the threshold, i will continue to have my doubts. these are the words of the Darth Hurricane

This is all very good, believeable information but how do I know that you are a reliable source. I do want to trust you, but there has been too many rumors floating around to take things at fave value. Would you mind stating some of your sources, or links to other places that agree with or confirm this information.
All the info I posted is confirmed from Threshold and Linden Ashby in an interview with Talk Soup.

Too bad they have the ending where Quan Chi is trapped in the netherrealm with Scorpion in Mk4. Always though that would be a good ending to a movie if they had Quan Chi in it as the main villian.

lol, just sit back and see if the movie is made, im sure it will be. I emailed threshold awhile back and asked them if they are going to make a new movie. They repied "In time, yes". So I have no doubt there will be another film. The only question Im wanting to know is when can we expect it?

that's the first semi-intelligent post I've seen from Iron Smoke.

They need sponsors... first it was legal problems, then it was money trouble.

For all I know though, they have the money by now, and are making the movies.
