I'm all for an animated version. (either American or Japanese, I'm open to either. WB does have very talented artists working on, for instance, their DC Universe direct-to-dvd movies and shorts, not to mention good relations with numerous anime studios that have led to projects like the Animatrix and Batman: Gotham Knight.)

I tend to prefer animation to live action, in fact. You can accomplish so much more with the visuals without budgetary concerns. They could really do an accurate take.

What about the same sort of animation used in films like Toy Story and the likes, sort of a meet in the middle

Only if it is done by the Shigurui crew. Those people know violence tenfold.

it's interesting, as the mk9 game's endings uses anime and it looks cool.

NO

We have enough weeaboo crap mixed up in Tekken and SC, please don't let it get it's filthy hands on my MK.

And as far as a western studio doing a cartoon, remember Defenders of the Realm? Unfortunately so do I.

Live action is the way to go. As long as they keep the developer involved and have a GOOD story, (like so far MK: Legacy has had--better than the game itself, actually), and a good director, we don't need no MK cartoons.

Saying all anime is "weeaboo crap" is pretty ignorant. It's not like anyone's specifically asking for MK to have a schoolgirl character or for dubbing to be babbling crap, or for it to have tropes like "when someone's nervous, there's a giant bead of sweat on their head, when someone's horny, blood gushes out of their nose."

It's JUST an art style choice when you get anime creators to do American material. Have you ever even seen the Animatrix?

I'd love to see an ongoing MK anime series. I have little doubt it that would follow the canon to the letter and treat characters with the utmost respect they deserve,if most Japanese videogames based on Western licenses are of any indication.

I'd like an MK anime, but with WB's fantastic animation studios, I doubt they'll go that route.
Although they did make Gotham Knights...

Keep dunking your Kenshi breadsticks into your Skarlet sauce, people! The main course isn't coming for a while, and you never know when it's going to be disappointing.

I support this idea.

That blood gushing out the nose part has to be really awkward happening in a fight, lol.

I love anime.

I especially love the Saint Seiya Japanese anime series (The USA version was fucking pathetic). I've followed it ever since early in my childhood and it was one of the best Japanese animes ever created.

Easily beats most of the most modern animes, as well as pairing with Dragon Ball/Z/GT for the best of all time. I would love for MK to have a series with this artistic and presentation style, it would honestly be a dream come true. It would work fantastic, imo. They could bring characters to life, they could make the fighting scenes EPIC, and it could introduce us to other realms in an easier way. They would be able to portray them in a very unquie way.

One can hope ..

I enjoy my share of Anime. But when it comes to Mortal Kombat, hell no. There's something very "American" about Mortal Kombat's overall style. Even the way it depicts Asia, and things of that nature. It's one of those things that distinguish MK from the other fighting franchises. I wouldn't want to see it corrupted by Japan. Just like I wouldn't want to see... Well, this is what happens when a fighting franchise crosses cultures:

No such thing can ever, at all exist. Not to mention it is insulting. And besides, it is not as monolithic as you would think. Again, Shigurui. To simply put, I can count the anime I like on my two hands, but this one is right up there for making a mockery out of Jidaigeki and showing how brutal, uncaring, degenerate the samurai life and code of honor was in real everyway life. Slowly, painfully slowly unfolding drama and everyday horror, though the sporadic action scenes are well worth the pay (the techniques are nonfunctional, however they come off as plausible at first, and even functional in their own universe).

As for brutality and art style...

Fencing protip: this is why overhead blocking is discouraged. Everywhere.

And here we have Shang Tsung as an old man, sans moustache.

He's pointing out that the phrase "Japanese anime" is redundant. You don't need to say it's Japanese, that's already automatically part of the word "anime". When other countries make cartoons, we just call them "cartoons", only Japanese cartoons are called "anime".

In hindsight, Japanese call foreign animation anime too.

I have rewatched Gotham Knight and I am convinced that a collab between those very people could bring something interesting out of the MK idea.

What a schmuck. It's amusing to watch his criticisms, considering the way he's presented his own points or his lack of understanding on what makes something "better" (though naturally it's all a matter of opinion)

Saying "anime is horrible" is essentially the same as saying "movies are horrible" or "books are horrible".

People who treat anime as one monolithic entity are either ignorant, or disingenuous. The differences between anime shows is as vast as the differences in American films, animation or no. Sweet school girl comedies, cutesie kid shows, tough kid shounen stories or horrifically beyond violent tragedies or horror. Anime is not a genre. It's a method. Guaranteed there is an anime somewhere for everyone that they'll like. They're THAT varied. Don't like pokemon? Try Gantz. Try reading Battle Royale.

Obviously, no one is suggesting MK become pokemon or DBZ. Using an art style, aesthetic or philosophy like anime isn't going to inherently corrupt the story.

As is, I'd love an MK cartoon, but I'd prefer an anime-esque American version. I think an actual Japanese production (note I say Japanese, not anime) would dilute the spirit of it, simply because of the differences between franchises. Much like the guy who runs Street Fighter said, there ARE distinct Japanese and Western aesthetics, and I think a US version would be better made.

ASSUMING it's done well, for an ADULT audience. Not Defenders of the Realm type of stuff

Alright, I don't get why people are getting so defensive over it. You got the point I was trying to get across, no? Leave it at that and stop trying to sound smart. Is Saint Seiya not Japanese? Lets leave it at that.
