I know everybody has different tastes, but I seriously don't understand why so many people are still so hung up about these names.

Kung Jin is a perfectly reasonable Asian name, just like everyone else in MK who has a perfectly reasonable Asian name. Yeah, Tekken has a character named Jin Kazama. Art of Fighting has a Jin Fu-Ha, and Fatal Fury has two brothers with the surname Jin -- Jin Chonrei and Jin Chonshu. It's a pretty common name in some vast and enormously populated corners of the world. But you know what other game has a Kung Jin? Fucking nobody.

You know who else has a Johnny? Guilty Gear! Fatal Fury has a wrestler named Raiden and a bruiser named Lao. King of Fighters has a character named Zero, who also is shown to be two individuals who have shared the same identity. Samurai Showdown has a Liu, and a teleporting fire ninja named Hanzo. The name Hotaru existed in an SNK game in 1999, 5 years before Deception. RIPOFF!

So what if Salazar reminds people of a Resident Evil character. Does Raiden from MGS upset you because he has the same name as an MK character? Can no one invoke the name of an actual Japanese mythological figure ever again? If anything, MGS only taught us that in Mortal Kombat, the Thunder God Himself has always been pronouncing his own name wrong. So why should Salazar, an actual and widespread human name, be limited to one video game only?

How is Ron Tan' Cho any better or worse of a name than Kuai Liang, Bi-Han, or Hso Hao, or Kung Lao? The only odd thing about it is that it suggests a blood relationship to Bo' Rai Cho, which has yet to be determined. I'll say it's dumb to have two characters with the same name who are not related -- just like I'll say that it's dumb that the Sub-Zero brothers do not share a name. But on its own, as an Asian character in an Asian-flavored fighting game, there is nothing inherently wrong with Ron Tan' Cho.

Cripes, guys. For something as minor as a character name, there's enough butthurt in this thread to make me want to lather my computer screen with Preparation H.

Eh, we're just expressing our opinions on something minor as a name. I doubt any of us are not gonna buy the game based on a name alone. Yeah, it reminds me of a RE4 character, I'm not crying RIPOFF, it's just the first thing I think of when you bring up the name, Salazar.
And yeah, so far the names aren't doing it for me.

If this is indeed for Legacy 3, then what about the end of Legacy 2 ? The cliffhanger left a ton of room to continue the story of the tournement, but it would seem this season is basically going to just gloss over the end of 2 and jump right into MKX.

I don't know if I like that.

It's going to be live-action and online-only like Legacy, but it's not actually going to be season 3 of Legacy. It's its own thing.

Why are some people komplaining about the names? The names are all fine.

I can't wait to see if RON TAN' CHO will be the new evil male version of Tanya. Tan VS Tan' Cho!

LOL I'm just playing.

But LMAO at this : " Ron Tan' Cho is an underground crime boss. He does what he wants, takes what he wants & always get what he wants. He has one wicked smile that if shown to you means trouble. He enjoys toying with his enemies & seeing the fear on their faces. "

WTF lol It's actually a cute description. Maybe I will like this kharakter if he is playable in MKX.

The names are really no worse than klassic kharacters. We are just used to their names. I didn't care for the names here too much at first but I've already started to get used to them.

Guys, this is legit. I actually had the chance to audition for it (working actor originally from Canada down in LA, didn't get the part) and I can guarantee it is for real. There are more characters than this and since I didn't sign any contracts, legally I can't be held accountable if the information were to, um, slip out?

Despite Salazar's description, I think he's going to end up being one big nasty s.o.b.

Ron Tan Cho will be the equivalent of Bo in size.

Kung Jin...well you know.

Tell us what you know! But only if it's true. wink Did they have readings for other characters down there or something?

Yes, but usually when you go to an audition there will be 10-20 characters reading for the same character in a row. That way you get one role out of the way and move onto the next. So yeah, there were 1 or 2 roles there other than mine that were not mentioned in the list.

Agreed. It's just names people. I don't care if there's a character named Blondey McHugeTits as long as she plays like a boss and is balanced properly.

Better yet, Fallout 2had a big muscle guy named Torr who was watching out for a girl and cattle in the settlement of Klamath.

Credit to the MK reddit page, particularly user Xhogar who pointed out that 'Salazar' is the last name of a 13 year old who murdered his friend in 1997, a case in which it was alleged that MK caused him to do it cos of its violence: http://www.webcitation.org/5mG1Vbyra
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mortal_Kombat_controversies#cite_note-93
.

Could point to this being a hoax or an oversight. If its the latter, I would imagine Salazar will be changed as a name

I personally have no problem with the new characters' name. However, I might have a problem with Takeda, as he sounds too similar to Kenshi. Even Takeda's abilities sound identical to Kenshi's. Still, I'll give him a chance.

Salazar's backstory is almost exactly like Kano's, though I'd like to know how he ended up in Outworld. But other than the similar backstory, the guy could be completely different from Kano in design, abilities and gameplay, so I'd be open to having him on the roster.

Kung Jin sounds okay, and Ron Tan Cho's probably the most interesting of them all. Like Salazar, there's no way to tell what their gameplay would be like if they ended up in MKX, so I'm not gonna accuse them of being bland just yet.

My biggest worry regarding them, as a part of the roster, is that the likes of them will make up most of the new characters, instead of women and monsters. Male human characters can be great, don't get me wrong, but I hope the new gals and monsters (D'Vorah being both, and Ferra who's not individually playable) we've got so far won't be the only ones.

I think there are many ways for Takeda to be different from Kenshi, especially since it seems like they both might be playable.

He can use his telekinesis to throw shuriken or kunai. Have a psychic blast projectile maybe? He can easily have different sword moves. I think it's doable.

Still excited to see Bo' Rai Cho though and characters like Salazar, Kung Jin, and Ron Tan' Cho and what they'll be like.

Yeah, lots could be done with his telekinesis to make him differ from Kenshi. Maybe give him multiple swords as well?

There's plenty of things you can do with them. Off the top of my head:

Sword Saint - Kenshi controls his sword telekinetically like a familiar. He can send it flying all across the screen, spin it around like a flying buzzsaw and use it for juggle extensions and remote pokes.

Avatar - a style based entirely around those little astral projections that he could create in MK9. I suppose he could send them out to do things, similar to how Noob uses his shadow, but he could also set up stationary ones, kind of like an ice clone. He could then make them detonate on command, like a psychic bomb. This one would pretty much be based entirely around traps and mixups.

Quickdraw - a style based entirely around battoujutsu techniques. Sword strikes have huge recovery times and are hard to combo, but they come out superfast, they reach far and hit hard. Think Johnny from Guilty Gear. Make them chargeable, too.

As for Takeda, I was thinking something a bit simpler and more straightforawrd compared to what his father can do. Give him a sword-heavy variation, a TK-heavy variation and something that shows that he studied under Scorpion. I was thinking maybe a harpoon-based variation, except he wouldn't use it for attacking as much as for getting around the screen quickly. Give him the ability to zip to the edges of the stage and do triangle jumps off the walls and shit. Think Mavado, I guess, except way more functional.

Guess it's worth noting that Garrett Warren confirmed on twitter the other day that he's directing the series, and he even said that "the cat is out of the bag."
