Warner Bros. seems to be repeating the "Windows 10 dilemna" in that... where was Windows 9? So in this case, when exactly was the second animated film because The Journey Begins was a prequel to the 1995 film/timeline and Scorpion's Revenge was more an animated reboot of a new generation/timeline.

It's possible but since Cobra Kai is a hit show it's not out of the realm of possibility MK could try and harken back to the '80s revisionist trend going on lately in pop culture.
