With Star Wars out and DOMINATING the box office, expected to reach $100million this weekend alone, and the summer movie kick-off officially beginning, Mortal Kombat II is slated for the krypt.
.
A VOD release date this early isn't good news and fanboys pray the June 5th release in Japan will save them.
.
Maybe? But to Hollywood execs it's already a failure - it didn't make its expectations in the first weekend and they can care less about the rest especially since the summer box office season has begun!
.
Obsession's 30% increase is how GREAT MOVIES WORK - take notes crybaby influencers, this is how the theater business works. No exec cares about "rotten tomatoes" especially since anyone can review bomb those.

Glad to see you're so happy about it...

I on the other hand would prefer to see MK succeed in other forms of media. It's not like the video games are telling good stories anymore... And once they fuck up their own canon, they have to commit. Even if they do another bull shit time travel story arch, it's there to stay. Movies and TV shows can get away with telling smaller stories or reinventing themselves because they are NOT the source material.
lol
.
I'm actually very happy it failed because it sucked. When shit movies succeed it gives the studio the impression fans love it. Then they make more movies using the same shittyness used in the last one. WB and all of its production studios cherry-picked what to give to fans what we wanted. They literally copied Annihilation's format in making this sequel an immediate continuation sequel. MKII succeeded MKA by using the same talent from the first film, that's a positive I can say that MKA failed.
.
I agree wholeheartedly MK needs to expand beyond video games. They're becoming comical and I feel the timeline multiverse thing is overdone. I get it. It gives them liberty to change things and blame the multiverse/timeline. But MK already had a convoluted and broken history so running with it still broken is not in anyone's best interests.
.
I was impressed with Scorpion's Revenge and Battle of the Realms (I know many fans didn't like that one and understandable). Mk needs to become a well-written web series and written well and logistically. Unfortunately too many of these same series (Stranger Things) just become tiring and was dragged on forever. That impedes creativity and is just a money thing. I agree Boon needs to make money but he needs to do it the right way - by giving us great stuff and stop giving us crap. Stop making crappy MK games that are incomplete, stop with the demand major pay transactions, stop with the demand to extensive amounts of gameplay (it will take a year of practically everyday gameplay just to beat MK11) and especially broken games like MK: Legacy that still claims the Kollector's Edition is coming yet MKDA only has its portable versions.
.
I feel the best way to deliver the most Kombat and keep it coming and lower costs is by an animated series. Like they did in 1995, they should go back to being ground-breaking and become the first all-AI live-action series if they go the live-action route. Have you seen the crazy stuff fans of done with MK on sites like DeviantArt? Like, damn, they make better AI movies than the cinematics that appear in the games or any live-action movie.
.
Just don't give us another Federation of the Martial Arts or MK Legacy web series. Those are the two crappiest MK shows in existence IMO and both came during the long and drawn out MK being phased out. MKFOMA destroyed the franchise but Legacy/Rebirth, even absolute shit, told WB MK still had an audience. I'm just not sure that audience is appropriate to keep MK, well, MK.
