So far it has a higher rating than the first MK movie. Let’s hope it stays above 60%. It’s obvious the inclusion of Cole’s character is what’s making this movie tank. Hollywood really sucks with their dumb narratives. I don’t get why they always interfere with the screenplay and add things that aren’t necessary to the plot.

It has been fluctuating between the 50s and 60s the past day or so. As we are entering the US release, I hope it will ultimately break the 60% marker. Despite having some issues with parts of this movie, I do think it was ultimately made by people who take the source material into consideration and did their best.

I haven't seen it yet, but I'm hoping to have a good time when I get over there.

It isn't certified at all. In fact, after the latest reviews came in, It's sitting at 55%

Just finished watching it. It was good, but not better than the OG film.

Definitely miles better than Annihilation and redeems the series. Just hope it's successful enough for sequels.

It was certified at the time of that writing but boy has it went downhill and fast. As of 4/23 11:46pm its rotten at 56% but 88% with audience score. After doing a Google search on reviews, big name review companies like Yahoo and CNN are very negative.

I myself am undecided if and when I am going to give a review for the film itself. I did watch it in a traditional cinema today and it was still dark but I got to see detail on some things. Whereas last night I watched the opening 7 minutes on HBOMax and swear it was brighter so I plan to watch it on HBOMax and then consider giving my review.

I went to a 1PM showing. Even pre-pandemic not a lot of people go to those. Our little theater, in a college town in rural Ohio, with $5 tickets, had only 6 at the 1PM showing. However I did stay until 11:00PM to watch other films and when I left the theater parking lot was quite full. One of those other films was Kong vs Godzilla and hilariously they played the MK greenband trailer before it - in this PG-13 film with a lot of kids in the audience. I did talk to one of the 6 people at my first showing and he liked it and was shocked to see Reiko and Nitara. He likes how they setup the Noob Saibot angle and noticed he had black armor. He hadn't seen much about the film prior.

At this point it's a wait and see game. I think the true measure of success is how long it stays in theaters. Tom and Jerry (a film I watched just to see it in theaters after watching it 2-3 times at home) is STILL in theaters 2 months later. I don't see KvG going anywhere so hopefully when Conjuring 3 drops in June it replaces Tom/Jerry and not MK. For those interested, the other film I watched is a PG-13 film from Lionsgate called Voyagers. To summize my review for that: It's Lord of the Flies Meets Passengers. If you liked both of those films you'll love Voyagers.

It isn't certified at all. In fact, after the latest reviews came in, It's sitting at 55%

Truthfully, even Annihilation was better than this. I really wanted to like the 2021 reboot but there's so much wrong with it. The initial trailer was epic, but wow what a letdown in the end.

Still fluctuating, sitting at 56 now. I'm sure the rating will stabilize in the next few days as the rest of the professional reviewers are in. It's looking like it'll be in the 50s. For context, rotten tomatoes has the 1995 movie at 43%, Tomb Raider 2018 at 52%, and the resident evil series has landed between 25 and 37%. Detective Pikachu and Sonic are at 63% and 67%.

These are the videogame based movies that are generally considered pretty good comparatively, so the fact that it's towards the top of the list should be pretty welcoming. It isn't quite at the level of Sonic or Pikachu, which were good movies independently imo. I think this shows that early thoughts are that this is an okay/decent movie on its own, but top tier for a videogame based movie.

For the record, Mortal Kombat is trending. Not sure if it's because of the movie or the MK11 game winning an award or both: https://twitter.com/search?q=%22Mortal%20Kombat%22&src=trend_click&vertical=trends

I'm definitely expecting responses like this, although I mean the CGI was way better in this than in Annihilation.

The only things I liked about this movie was the special effects and the cast. They went in the right direction with majority of the actors and their powers. I actually didn’t mind Sisi Stringer’s portrayal of Mileena but I still don’t want her to play as Kitana. The script on the other hand is a C at the best. I liked the humor but the dialogue was poorly written. Raiden and Shang Tsung could be replaced by cardboard cutouts and it wouldn’t have made any difference. They were very 1 dimensional with absolutely zero character development. Shang Tsung honestly did not intimidate me or strike me as a villain. Again, I blame this on the script and not the actors. They did their best with what they were working with. The scene transitions also didn’t flow well. Honestly, this movie just screams “first time director” and amateur screenplay. They had a great cast, good visuals, great FX team, but all of that was compromised due to an inexperienced director and bad screenwriters. It’s a shame because even on a 50M budget, they could’ve taken this movie to the moon with a great script and director — and also with better time management to prepare the actors on their choreography. They didn’t have enough time. Hopefully they’ll do justice with the sequels, if we are lucky to even see any. This could possibly end up being another Power Rangers reboot situation and get cancelled.
