I don't think this has been posted before, but I just found this whilst browsing on play.com:
http://play.com/play247.asp?page=title&r;=R2&title;=157451&p;=57&c;=&g;=72
Obviously its a rerelease of the first movie, but notice how it now has an 18 rating as opposed to the 15 rating the movie originally had.
There was something about the BBFC changing their guidelines a few months ago, so uncut versions of movies could be released alongside the original versions, provided the difference was clearly stated on the packaging.
Anyone know anything about this?

Wow, great find. It looks legit; The original is 101 min, while thise one is about 30 min longer; That's gonna be great. Hopefully it'll come out in the USA. I hope this is due to Mortal Kombat 3 starting up, but we'll see.
Good find.

Well according to Play, the details they list show only a 1 minute difference between this new release, and the old one.
Are there any deleted scenes out there that haven't been released yet?
The novelisation I have includes Scorpion in the 'taste of things to come' scene. As well as Sub-Zero freezing that bloke, Scorpion uses his spear to drag one of them towards him, then kicks him away so the spear rips out of him.
In that scene in the movie, you see Scorpion lead some guards out, but then he just disappears. 'Tis either very bad editing, or there is indeed a gory scene we haven't seen yet.

Some things were cut in the U.K. version of the film, that already are in the U.S. version.
This 'extended version' I'm sure is nothing more than getting the U.K. up to our standards.
Although, I will try and get a copy of this so I can cofirm for 100%.

Can you make a list of what was cut from the UK release?
EDIT: Does it involve Johnny Cage and nunchuks by any chance? The book had a scene where Sonya sees Johnny practicing a kata with nunchuks, and according to the IMDB, a scene with 'chain sticks' was cut from the UK release. Haven't got a clue why that would warrant an 18 rating though...

Some guy told me this in another forum:
The original Script for New Line's Mortal Kombat was indeen an R rated picture. It was much more violent and had Longer Fight scenes. Once New Line was given the draft of the script, shooting began and was Dramatically changed almost EVERYWHERE when Executives saw how Violent it was.
I know the scene with Sub Zero killing that Monk at the beginning was different, with Sub Zero performing his MK1 Fatality on him... that scene was re shot and the original never made it to post production.
All the Re-writes and Editing down of the fights caused Fight Coordanator Pat Johnson to abandon the Project and turn the fight Choreography over to Robin Shou.
In the end...the Fights were shortened or changes from theoriginal Script and the Movie was given a PG 13 Rating.

there was the 1st cersion of it. i saw the preveiw to the first movie in theaters and it showed someone being punched off the pit onto some real spikes, then they decided to fund it more, and it became what it was.
if we got jipped out of a cool movie becuase ppl thought it was "violent" then id be pissed.

This new version is what Mortal Kombat is all about. The movie would have been a lot better if they just included more violence from the game that we all have liked for so many years.

I really want this "R" rated movie. I only need to find VHS version or a DVD that works for American DVD players, Or is universal.

According to IMDB, the UK version removed some "chainstick" footage to get the lower rating. They're prolly just putting that back in. Total cut time - 3 seconds.
