Resident Evil movie had:
- stupid CG monsters
- stupid boss (Licker as a boss???)
- stupid plot (an evil computer, Cube lasers??)
- non-threatening zombies
- terrible matix-effects (no, they're not cool anymore)
- things like the Umbrella clean-up team members removing their masks for no reason
- almost complete lack of blood & gore (a "teenage scary movie", when the Biohazard games are M-rated)
- and more.

I mean, just compare it to the Night of the Dead 1990. This is a scary zombie horror. Or the British 28 Days Later, which was actually semi-amatour movie with a very little budget (and which original ending was actually a much more non-happy end then of RE movie).

All what was well done was a music (in the opening sequence), and a nice "alone in the mansion" and "wake up in the hospital" scenes.

The rest was crap (IMHO).

Yet, it was still better than MKA, and also maybe the best game-related movie so far, too (not counting anime, of course - films like the Street Fighter 2 or Final Fantasy TSW are obviously better).

Oh, and remember the original MK movie? Games had buckets and buckets of blood, heads flying, people exploding, people being thrown alive into acid - and yet the movie had just the Liu Kang's lip cut. WOW, Mr. Anderson! I guess he had stolen all the blood from Mortal Kombat for a final sequences of the Event Horizon.

It was an another underground lab (and sealed forever afterwards) - there were actually 4 Umbrella labs under and around the Racoon City (1, 2, Movie and 0).

Oh, and in the original Romero screenplay it was to be RE1 lab with a STARS team, Wesker and the Tyrant boss... The script was rejected because of "looking too much like a game" and he was fired (and Anderson "Red Queen Licker Laser Fun" hired).

nor re as a movie sucked but as entertainment it was fun, 28 days later very low budget but it was how the first re should have been in the city.
but the only film worse than mka i can think of is either underworld or commando with arnie man that was cheesy, also some chuck norris films may feature but i don't remember their names

I liked Resident Evil. The second one looks to be much more faithful to the games as well, so I'm definately lookin forward to part 2.

Commando was actually the very first film ever based on the videogame. And it's not that far from the game's feeling (mindless shoot'em up against hordes and hordes of enemy soldiers).

I very much doubt this! Now they're mixing real RE characters with fakes! It was the stupidest movie ever! The zombies looked nothing like the ones in the game! The little girl in the next movie is from RE: Code Veronica, mentioning that the one in RE:CV was a grown adult with that same name! Considering that the movie is supposed to take place in RE3! Anderson really needs to stop making movies based off of video games cause he really f**ks 'em up!

This is really stupid too!
1. So mixing new original characters with game characters is stupid? They did that in MKC and I thought the new characters were great and matched perfectly.
2. The zombies look nothing like the game's... well, guess what. The zombies in the games were regular people infected with the T-Virus. Some were a bit eaten up by others who got infected first, but that's all. It's STUPID that the game zombies are all bald, completely rotten flesh creatures with burned and ripped clothes. That would be normal if they were people who had died at least months ago and were now returning from the grave, but in the game they were just infected, that's all. The movie is far more realistic, makes alot more sense. It would be stupid if after an hour of infection, everyone would turn into bald burned walking corpses.
3. You're an idiot! As I read that last bit of your post, that's the only sentence that kept coming back to my head. ''You're an idiot! This guy's an idiot! An idiot! Idiot!''.
ANGIE Ashford is not ALEXIA Ashford, you MORON.
ANGIE is a little girl who lives in Raccoon City
ALEXIA is an older cousin (?) who lives in Rockfort island, you FUCK. You don't know ANYTHING. You're worthless, now. You're a puny, tiny centre of existance, who knows NOTHING. How DARE you insult Paul Anderson? How DARE you talk about Resident Evil when you don't even KNOW anything about it? Anderson made the MK movie BIG. Anderson is the shit, and he's probably more important than you will EVER be in your entire, insignificant lifetime! Anderson is a GOD compared to you, you worthless NOTHING.

Zentile, although I agree with you about Resident Evil's quality, you need to refrain from calling people idiots because they don't agree with you.

There are a lot of people that hate the film and I'm not one of them, neither are you. Does this mean their idiots? NO. In fact, I can see why the disliked it (not very true to the game, a different story than expected, which I think is good, haterz don't) and just b/c their opinions are different than yours, or even if their NOT valid, doesn't mean you should call them an idiot.

At the end of the day, calling people idiots makes you come off immature and childish. You think RE is great, others don't. Live with it. As long as you enjoyed it, that's all that counts. What's the point to even argue?

RE1 is placed several weeks after the "incident".
They're not "just infected", they're simply rotten as hell - and mutating, too (Crimson Heads in the remake).

Oh, and there are also cemetery zombies, too.

"Licker starring as a boss" was a very, very stupid thing. They're a REGULAR enemies! (In RE2 there's a moment when 2 Lickers jump at a player at once.) OMG, 200 (non-threatening) zombies, deadly Evil Computer, and... a Licker! The Horror!

Something like an early Tyrant would be so much better. Ah, "it was in the game" reason...

http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/ResidentEvil-1113364/reviews.php?beg=0∫=99&creamcrop;_limit=23&page;=all - wow, 65% of (110) reviews are negative.

"While I certainly didn't come to Resident Evil with high expectations, I was actually disappointed. I wanted cool, scary zombies and zombie dogs. Instead I got pasty people and Dobermans coated in ketchup. I wanted slow-mo scenes of zombies being torn apart by machine gun fire. I wanted dark shadows and suspense. I didn't get any of these things."

"Just think that you could have sacrificed ten quarters to play Resident Evil the video game instead of coughing up ten bucks to witness the monotonous Resident Evil the movie."

"Fans of the game and the genre will be disappointed with the lack of gore ... and everyone else will find what plot there is confusing and boring."

"You see, the film's neither scary nor fun."

"Since "Resident Evil" is based on a video game, the comparison is a little different, but I'll bet the video game is a lot more fun than the film."

"This film is so empty that if Osama bin Laden bootlegged a copy and simply released it to al-Jeezera without comment, it would be his most devastating anti-Western culture propaganda tape ever."

Amazingly, it still happens to be better than the American RE comic books (there's appearently pretty cool Korean RE doujinshi series) - and most of the other video game movies.

BTW:
MKA got a whooping 6% of positive results!

It was actually 1 review (against 15), and it's of Jon Niccum, LAWRENCE JOURNAL-WORLD.

"A guilty pleasure more entertaining than the original"

So, there's a professional critic who actually liked the movie. Wow.

Original got 5 thumbs up against 13 thumbs up (the ass).

"What it's missing, ironically, is the edge that's made Mortal Kombat the video game such a powerful icon in American pop culture.

While the video game benefits from its relentless capacity to surprise -- even shock -- and disgust, MK the movie is saddled with apparent orders from the top that the film must pander to the lowest common denominator. A film that faithfully recreated the horrific images of a typical bout with the video game -- a bare-handed decapitation here, a disembodied spinal column there -- would doubtless snare an NC-17 rating, but Mortal Kombat opts for the relatively bloodless and probably more lucrative PG-13 route."

I don't have a slightest problem about people not liking RE. I do have a problem when they call the director an idiot for reasons that don't even exist, like the ''Angie/Alexia Ashford'' mix-up. Especially after what Paul Anderson did to MK.

Made it safe for kids? (Followed by a cartoon, TV series and other silly stuff.) The game was banned in Germany and censored by Nintendo.

I didn't like the RE movie. Though I must say that I've seen a ton of mistakes about the RE plot
1. Not all the zombies are bald, you don't even see any bald zombies in 2 or 3,
2. The accident in 1 was months not weeks prior to the incident with STARS
3. there are only cemetary zombies in CV and like 5 in one area
6.Well people Rot pretty quick, and most were eaten alive before returning
