Hair short, she's suddenly in shorts a tank and HIKING [..the hell?..] boots, and has a tan. Uhm, no.

You can't blame that on Hess

I will say this, as a martial artist, physical training is far easier to work on when in good physical condition [which Wilson was/is] than teaching someone attitude, feigning emotion and so on [Hess].

The purpose of those movies is to bing life into the characters, give them depth and a show you more than what the games can. Yes, it's based on a fighting game, but MK1 made me see more into their personality and made me really like Cage and Liu. Before game wise I didn't much because I didn't think there was much to them.

Wilson for Sonya. Just give her six months of training prior to filming like most martial arts/action movies call for.

Hahahaha, this is great. Ok try this...

A few posts ago you say that it was the fault of the script writers that Jax had lame lines.

And now you say that Hess needed better lines to be a better Sonya, but because she didn't have better lines she sucked...So if I read it right you're saying that if Hess gets better lines she would make a better Sonya?

Both Bridgette and Sandra werent good Sonya's. Bridette had the attitude but her fighting skills sucked ass. Sandra was a amazing fighter but her attitude and acting was miserable. For MK3..I say they get a new actress. I was possibly thinking Kristanna Loken since she did a great job in T3 and she was on MKConquest.

Loken is currently filming BloodRayne, so she can't do MK3. I say get Hudson Leick from the show Xena (she played the character 'Callisto'). She proved she can fight and act better than Bridgette in a single episode alone, which speaks volumes for her talents. Although I can live with anyone but Hess, and I do mean anyone.

Uma Thurman. She is such a great actress and can kick ass. She has the right look and attitude already. I think she would be perfect.

As for the whole continuity thing in MK:A and Sandra Hess and how I can't blame that on her -- yes I can, and I did. Seriously, a seasoned actress, or even someone with common sense who has seen the previous movie for the one who they are replacing an actress for should be able to go "This really doesn't look right. We need to pick it up where the last scene left off."

aslkfjnsfk sorry.. this post could have been more thought out, but.. in shock over recent MK:D things, so my apologies.

Hess dissapointed me. She seemed more like a friendly MOM than a serious special forces agent. IF Hess wouldve had the strictness like Wilson had, then she shouldve been ALOT better IMO.

But i liked Wilson better. Her attitude and such was great. She only needed to work on the martial Arts.

Ok...this is how I see it. Both Hess and Wilson had their pros and cons when playing Sonya in the two movies.

Wilson did have the attitude that made her Sonya. She was sarcastic and tough, which is who Sonya really is (if I missed any other words to describe Sonya's attitude, then please forgive me). However, thought Wilson had the attitude, her fighter skills were not good. If she was to play Sonya perfectly, then her fighting skills would have matched her attitude.

Hess, on the other hand, had the fighting skills. You wouldn't have noticed if she just started fighting or if she was fighting for years. She was great in the fighting department, however, she didn't have the attitude to match the fighting. Like I said earlier, Sonya can not only walk the walk, but she can talk the talk.

I have seen both actresses act, and their both good. I wouldn't mind having Hess or Wilson play Sonya in the 3rd flick. Just give Hess the attitude and/or give Wilson the fighting skills and you'll have Sonya any way that's pleasing. I just hope the movie comes out kicking major butt!!!

I agree, but as much as I LOVE Uma (1 of my top fave actress) she is a little too old. But hey, if she can look younger, I say yes!

As for the Sandra part....it was not her who decided to come with a different outfit. Blame the director or make up team, not her. sad

John R. Leonetti butchered MK:A, period. Perhaps it wasn't Sandra Hess's fault that she had such sucky scripting for Sonya. However, perhaps she really just can't act. You really can't base her one performance in this movie...because the entire movie was a travesty.

I'm almost leaning towards wanting a fresh new face to portray Sonya this time around. Wilson had the attitude, but not the moves. Hess had the moves, but not that attitude. Why not find someone who has both? I'm sure Paul Anderson will choose well, whatever his choice will be. He seems to know how to stick to the games, which is all any of us really want, right?

How did Jade become Chinese?
Anyway onto Sonya.

Bridgette Wilson had the looks and attitude and her fights were okay, but not great.

Sandra Hess didn't hve the looks, attitude or fighting skills. Pause the movie in a fight scene and you can clearly see, they stuffed chicken fillets down a Chinese mans tank top!!!

What about Kerri Hoskins. You can't say she doesn't have the looks. And you can't say she doesn't have the fighting skills because look at Mk3. But I'm not sure about attitude or acting skills. I've never seen her act.

One thing they should think about is not having a large musclebound woman. Because Sonya is a slim, feminine woman. Uma Thurman has proven to have Sonya's skills and can act, but just because she's blonde, doesn't mean she looks like Sonya.

you'd have to think long and hard to pick a Sonya actress. But If Sonya was dark haired, Angelina Jolie would have been perfect, because she's an oscar winning actress, she's great at fighting. Look at Tomb Raider, and she would have been perfect. Butwhen Jolie's blonde, it doesn't look right.

I was wondering, how come everyone says that Wilson has the Sonya Blade "attitude"?? I never noticed any specific "attitude" of Sonya in the games.

She gave Sonya that "attitude" that why people are saying that. Because she gave Sonya this "I don't take any crap" attitude.

OK let me rephrase my question, because it seems that it is to difficult. OK here goes, at an elematary level...

What where the signs that Sonya gave in the games MK1 to 3 that said, I'm a bad chick and you better watch out for me?

I didn't see anything that said that in the games, neither in the biographies or otherwise.

In the games themselves should have given you the clue. Look at her in the character selection, she has this look saying "I'm gonna kick your butt." Just look at her, she's fierce!!!

She had that look since MK1 considering that fact that she was (and this is very important) THE ONLY FEMALE FIGHTER IN THE GAME!!! That reason alone should do it. That why we associate Wilson giving Sonya her attitude because she had it all along.

What attitude would you have had if you were in a tournament where fighter to the death was an absolute must?

yeah right, that picture didn't give that feeling you where talking about.

I'll never be in that type of situation, so how I would look in a picture is a complete waist of time.

Besides, do you really think Shang Tsung took everybodies picture before MK began, he must have said something like; "Common Sonya, I got your teanm, that pisses you off, show it, SHOW IT!!
Bullshit, those pictures mean squat

Why is this even in the discussion, frikandel!!!

The thread was about if Hess should play Sonya or not. If you have something to say about the topic itself then speak ur peace. Other than that, if its something different, then start another thread and we'll take it from there.

If you already answered the thread question, then cool. Leave at that or respond to others who in turn answered the thread. If not, then answer the question and leave it at that.

I don't know why i'm explaining this to you

I really don't know why we're even talking about it either. It seems kind of pointless.
Why don't we just forget about it...and talk about something else.

Because he's right, it does have to do with the subject. The most attitute Sonya ever 'transmitted' to us was in her MK3 versus pose, and it still wasn't much attitute at all there. And her MK4 mugshot? She looks like a sweet teenage babysitter.
Bottom line is, Sonya only had this attitute in the first movie and nowhere else. Sure, it was a nice touch for her character, but like I said before, I for one, don't mind Hess' performance one bit.

I don't think it's ever in the games... but it's the personality the character ussually has, be it in the movie, comics, cartoon.. whatever... even if those do notaffect the storyline.. they do affect a character... and how people percieve it...

Okay.. I'll give reasons why Sonya's character needs this attitude of not taking shit.

Think about it, her twin brother died, a killer wanted in over 35 countries killed her boyfriend/partner. [comics and what not have messed with this aspect, so it could be either or even both canon wise. hell, maybe her brother was her partner instead. anyway..] Her unit was captured and I believe killed during the time of the first tournament, thus forcing her tom compete, and she is in the Special forces. She has reason to be utrusting, cynical, and a downright bitch.

LMAO at her looking like a sweet babysitter in the MK4 picture. She really did, though I loved the costume.

To me, Hess did not pull off acting as though she had been through any of that, [minus her unit getting captured, cos derr.. didn't happen that way in the movies.]

Also, I think Uma looks a lot like her in certain angles, she's bad ass, she's a great actress, and she definitely has that attitude and could add to the role. But.. her facial features are too big, in my opinion. Sonya has petite facial features.

Okay, okay.. I am done. lol
