Well, if the movie is based on the games then the writers did a poor job of sonya, were talking about a GAME to movie translation and not what some dumb-ass cartoon did.

Sonya really never did have any attitude in the games, and just because you like it in the movies didn't prove anything, so in my conclusion, sonya was also done nicely in mka.

So attitude doesn't mean squat except to the people who liked it, and i didn't.

So you want someone running around all "OMG JOHNNY!" the entire time, because.. "hey, she had no personality in the games, so why should she have one in the movie?"

The movie introduced us to a more rounded character, but it didn't go into as much detail. I think we would have seen more from these characters and others, had the script for the second one not sucked and others refusing to return.

These other platforms, comics, cartoons, movies are their methods ot giving these characters more of a backbone, and with a fighting game it's a little harder than an RPG or what have you. Each one has their different take on different characters, and using Sonya Blade as an example, there are holes and contradictions. It sucks, but that's how it goes.

The attitude is Sonya. I don't want to see some pansy assed blonde bimbo running around for two hours on screen like a wolf in sheep's wool. *shrug* I'm not saying Sandra Hess is that, but I think you know what I mean.

Not to mention MKA ruined Jade and completely messed her up as well. Another character I love messed up by bad scripting, casting and directing. Sad.

I believe I have to agree with sanguine on this, to some extent.

Sonya Blade is a character that is open to any number of interpretations. It just so happens the popular belief is that she is a hardened, take-no-shit kind of woman. Lets look at *why* people might see her this way.

- Is an original player from the first game. This aspect gives many of the characters from the series a *badass* type of feel...mostly because "Hey! I haven't died! (more than once)".

- US Special Forces. This means military. As I'm sure many of you are aware of, the stigma that is attached with the military are that they are "Tough, hard-working defenders of the Nation". Now, couple this with the stigma that a *woman* in the military just compounds this idea. A military woman is a *hardass*, supposedly.

- Look at *any* of the women from the MK series. It's pretty safe to say that they are ALL credible for being tough chicks. Sonya just happens to get the rep for being more tough-as-nails because she has hunted down Kano for god-knows how long...and wishes to kill him out of revenge. Revenge can make anybody look like a hardass.

So, realistically, it's not that far off to stick it to Sonya as being the hardened badass chick. Obviously this is also what the director felt was the case with Sonya in the first movie, and scripted her accordingly. This is why it was a rather weird shock to see her getting all weepy over Johnny, and kinda being a tad whiney in the second movie. I'm not saying she wasn't badass in MK:A....it is just that there were other factors of both the script and the actor that counteracted this. But like I said.....it is the *only* movie I've seen Sandra Hess in, and the script sucked anyway. So, interpret as you will.

Nicely put Sindra!!! Those reasons alone should do it on why Sonya has that attitude.

That was very well stated. I couldn't have said it better myself. ^.^

MK: Deadly Alliance is the perfect example of the “attitude” we love so much about Sonya.

In Mk4 they made her look like a “happy sweet Wilson”, but in MKDA they gave her the looks of Sandra Hess WITH the mean sarcastic tough face of WILSON!

But BEFORE the movies, you can clearly see her as a tough bad-ass chick in Mk3, specially in her VS and Bio pose pics.

She looked tough in Mk1 as well, being the only female helped her in that aspect as well.

But she definitely has the attitude thanks to MKDA. No doubt. But I do agree, Sandra Hess did a great job as Sonya, but she lacked the "spirit" Wilson gave to her character.

***Sanguine, Sindra and Wisdom, I 100% agree with you 3!!!! grin
