The cosplay videos and how they make me angry!
The recent cosplay videos of Sonya, Kitana and Mileena make me so pissed off!
Here we clearly have a die-hard fan (or fans) who have dedicated some time to re-creating the costumes almost down to the smallest detail with beautiful perfection... the women chosen for the pieces are not only personally beautiful women but they portray the characters the way they are meant to in the costumes and with the weapons...
And then we have Hollywood... and the Mortal Kombat movies... movies which had MILLIONS of dollars spent on them... do the costumes look decent? no... was the acting decent? VERY far from it... do the actors even look like or resemble the characters they're portraying? hardly...
What makes me more annoyed is MILLIONS of people who saw those Mortal Kombat movies without having ANY prior knowledge of what MK was all about walked away with those awful impressions of the characters, their costumes and the pitifully weak story portrayed in the films... the only people who are really going to watch a cosplay video are die-hard fans themselves who already know what MK is really all about...
If Hollywood actually invested some REAL money and REAL time into recreating what Mortal Kombat was all about, those movies could've been two of the best martial arts movies EVER MADE... unfortunately, they're two of the worst...
I demand that the person responsible for the creation of the costumes and the casting of the females in the cosplay videos be on the executive crew of the next Mortal Kombat movie... (that is, if the franchise hasn't been totally murdered by those crappy movies and this woefully bad MK: Legacy crap!)

My thoughts exactly.
The outfits in the movies sucks so bad. The best costumes was in MK: Annihilation. Scorpion, Smoke, Cyrax and Sindel had the best ones.
I mentioned in another thread that they should do a third movie approximately 2 hours long with spot on costumes and PG-18 rated with partial nudity and some sweet goriness.

If I could ask anything of a Hollywood budget, I'm not sure costumes as gaudy as these would be at the top of my wishlist. If anything, it'd be nice to see Hollywood excel where the games sometimes haven't, reinjecting some of the personality and layers of plausibility in designs circa MKDA. The new shot of Sub-Zero from MK: Legacy strikes me as a pretty fond change of pace, versus the plastique shiny look of the MK Kosplay models.
I can understand maybe being a little bit underwhelmed by the likes of Jax and Kano in their recent preview outing, but... I don't think the bar has been set by cheap looking bikinis.

I agree with you 100%
It's a shame we live in a world where people don't fucking care. Producers think as long as the name is slapped on the actor it will fly.
It's a shame we live in a world where the fans actually accept this bullshit too.
"herpderp the Surgeon Baraka looks cool, ur not a real MK fan if u hate it" and then they pull out the "All you do is bitch" card.
AND THEY WONDER WHY.
I don't understand how a fan of a franchise accept an inaccurate image.
Same thing goes for that recent Mortal Kombat soundtrack.
Majority of those tracks doesn't resemble the characters at all, which was the purpose of the soundtrack, but yet, people ate that shit up and the producers got their money. All because the name was slapped on.
Did the music sound good? A few tracks.
Did it meet the objective? Not near.
And to quote Scorpion from the second and horrible Mortal Kombat movie.
"SUCKERS!!!!!"
One thing I can't stand is inaccurate costumes in Media to Film movies too.
It's obvious that not everybody should wear spandex, because that obviously wouldn't look right, so yeah, substitue away. But TRY to be CLOSE to the SOURCE as possible.
But come on, things like MK Movie long sleeve Scorpion, Sub-Zero and Reptile? How is it possible that you over dressed the characters?! Give their ass a black tank-top and you're done! The mask on the other hand, was acceptable. Maybe a little hint of color, but regardless, acceptable.

Bullshit, it was a horrible attempt at recreating UMK3 Scorpion costume.

Looking at the pictures, you can just feel that it's a plastic pad-ish suit. Ew.
The black part is supposed to be a seperate shirt from the vest thingy, like the first MK movie, not part of the whole freakin' costume itself.
Again, long sleeves, and he has gloves?! Wrong.
Sindel was also incorrect.
She has black hair with multiple small white streaks. In the game, it's white hair with a black streak in the middle.
She's wearing pants.
She's not wearing a small vest.
The spandex I will let slide, even though it's showing too much purple.
The boots is incorrect as fuck.
The gloves are all wrong.
Smoke and Cyrax on the other hand, I will agree with.
Although they were missing the utility belts and the helmets had incorrect colors.
Like movie Cyrax helmet base was yellow, but in the game it's silver or chrome, w/e.
The mask part in the movie version was grey, but in the game it's yellow.

If you made a movie just like the games, it would be god awful and get completely panned. Companies have tried the direct translations many times and MK did it back in the 90's very close to the games to a disastrous outcome.

The first MK did very well and Annihilation strayed extremely far from the source material.
Seriously you guys are INSANE!
The girls in the cosplay looked hot and all, but NOT for a movie. These designs look great in-game but should not be brought in a real life setting, it would look cheezy as hell.
This is why you don't see Wolverine fighting in yellow and blue spandex in the movies.

The setting and costumes in the first movie were believable. It got all ridiculous in Annihilation when they got a bunch of the special moves (complete with special effects) from the games and tried to dress the characters in costumes inspired by the games. It doesn't work.

I don't see what the problem is...
But, yeah, while these are game-accurate, in real-life they would need to wear something less... impractical and shiny. If something looks store-bought, brand new, never-before-worn, it stands out, which is why smart filmmakers don't dress their actors in newly bought brand-name clothing (unless you're Michael Bay). You want their clothes to feel worn, weathered, lived-in.
Too shiny and new and it looks fake.

... Or just replace their clothes with copious amounts of bad CGI.

They'd rather spend money on the actors than the costumes.
I bet those models can't act for shit.
Plus, there's more money going to other places than just costumes and actors.
There's a lot of shit you have to pay for that you don't see in the theater. So please understand the movie-making process before you go bitching about something you know little about.
I'm not saying I thought the movies did an OUTSTANDING job... it's just that your argument sucks. That goes for the majority of you.

You cannot make a buck if you cater to a few unforgiving fans of the games. To be blunt, you are a minority. It would not be worth it.
Besides, MK is campy. Even with the more "realistic" models the designs are campy. This is not cool on the big screen, hell, this isn't cool for fifteen year old kids.
Plus, how would you make a bloodbath drama with people looking like that and not make a mockery out of yourself is beyond me. The Legacy project nailed it with more success than anything.

This. It's like they said in the Klassic Scorpion gameplay. He's been getting more and more armor since MK4. Putting an actor in that costume would just look ridiculous and it'd be hard to have decent movements. You ever wonder why comic heroes (as mentioned above) don't ever have completely comic accurate costumes? Because they only work in their respective mediums. Nobody wants to see a tiny man in bright yellow spandex running around and chopping guys in tiger costumes in half. it just doesn't look good live action. Honestly I think KTanch has done a great job with costumes. They're grounded in realism and still look cool enough to the point where some people are even going "DLC costume pack plz". The models' costumes looked good in the videos as a brought-to-life sort of thing, but while I'd love a girl to put one on before I did unspeakable things to her, I couldn't bear to sit through a 2 hour movie of these people in bright shiny plastic enacting badly choreographed fight scenes.
