- First off Lambert as Rayden.

- Keep the opening the same but instead of having Ermac, Rain, Motaro and Sheeva have Baraka, Reptile, Mileena and Kintaro. Shang-Tsung should have come later.

- Smoke was cool to have but I think that it may have been better to see him as a human.

- Instead of Nightwolf, Liu Kang should have met the spirit of Kung Lao instead and maybe he could warn him about Shang-Tsung.

- Jax keeps his metal arms but instead of him in a fight with Cyrax it should have been Baraka

- Get rid of those huge stone monsters! Keep Shinnok

- When Rayden goes into that temple full of the Raptors he should have fought Noob Saibot

As for all the fights it should have been:

RAYDEN V. KAHN
LIU KANG V. SMOKE
SUB-ZERO V. SCORPION
JAX V. BARAKA
SONYA V. JADE
LIU KANG V. SHANG TSUNG

For the final battle:

LIU KANNG V. KAHN
JAX V. KINTARO
KITANA V. MILEENA
SONYA V. REPTILE

I wouldn't have *changed* it... I would have totally scrapped it and started again.

First things first, use the costumes from the first movie.

Secondly, given Khan his costume from the MK2 TV advert and had him played by someone with some menace and acting-ability... and NEVER unmasked him. If it was impractical for an actor to wear the helmet in every scene, then use the skin-tight skull-plate worn by Khan in Conquest. Instead of that dumb mallet, give him the broadsword from Conquest, really made him a warrior, not just a big thug.

Thirdly, cut the cast down in half... got rid of the following characters - Smoke, Cyrax, Nightwolf, Ermac, Jade, Shinnok, Scorpion, Sheeva, Rain and the Reptiles... basically the people of sub-plot relevance who aren't exactly needed to tell a tale of MK2/3. Yes, I said Scorpion... he met his end in MK1, yes he can't die, but it made Johnny's victory seem so worthless when he came back with *NO* reason.

Spend more time on Motaro's effects, shave his head, and get a more animalistic brute to play his upper-body - remove the crap CG monsters that emerge from the ground, and scrap the animalities.

Make Jax the level-headed intelligent special forces officer he seemed in the first movie. Scrap the metallic arms... what works in the game to make it 'cool' doesnt always work in a movie, and doesnt add to the story at all. Just bring back the Major Briggs he was always meant to be.

Scrap the plot elements referring to being brothers and those stupid spheres they roll around in.

More footage of the extermination squads... ACTUALLY EXTERMINATING... and it actually affecting the world's existence, not simply resetting the world's destruction thanks to blue-screen lightning and a cut... that was so cheap. Also have the world teeming with Baraka-like mutants.

Instead of Khan's gang-meetings of lame Power Ranger outcasts (i've scrapped most of these guys anyway), instead have his throne-room filled with shadow-priests who do his bidding.

Less wussy sound-effects like the squeaky lightning.

Have a more oriental-feel to the music and scenery... afterall, MK2 was based in Outworld, but the game still had an Oriental-feel to its scenery. This was lost on MK3 and Annihilation where it was totally americanized and aimed squarely at kids with no imagination for the mythical.

Have Lambert back as Raiden... failing that ANYONE else... Jeffrey Meeks from Conquest was damn good. And if a recasting was necessary actually mention it in the script, since it'd work with a God who can have any form - have him materialize a new identity that's referred to by the characters, like the Matrix Reolvutions did.

Have John R Leonetti dragged out into the street and shot.

There I think all that would have basically made it a superior movie.

First foremost would be the related link between Elder God Shinnok, Lord of Thunder Rayden, and Emperor of Outworld Shao Kahn

I think that both Raydens from the Mortal Kombat movies sucked even though the one from Annihilation sucked even more.In my opinion, the guys who played Rayden didnt look all that similar to his character in the Videogame.

For one,Raydens eyes in the Videogame are all white. This is how his eyes should've looked in the movies. The Rayden in the movies looks simple and too human. He looks weak.

The way Rayden looks in the Videogame is just right. He looks intimidating, looks like someone with authority.Looks like a"GOD".I think that it would've been better if they had got some kind of Japanese,Korean,or Chinese male actor to play the part of Rayden.

It isnt just the looks about the guys who played Rayden but the acting as well. They dont have it in them to play the part of Rayden.

in mk1,christopher lambert made the perfect raiden.i love raiden in mk even though he didn't fight.
i like that he looked human because he blended in with civilization.also, looking human hid his true power because even liu kang underestimated him just because he looked like a beggar and u saw what happened.

The "true" live-action representation of Raiden appeared in the videos in Mortal Kombat Mythologies... and he was a total jackass.

The first MK game was the only one to have a true Oriental atmosphere - enough to make you believe "this game was designed in the far east", the rest became more and more American as the series went on.
When it came to the movie, they did not delve too deeply into the first game's oriental atmosphere, and instead made it 'American with Chinese Overtones'... with the script being witty American writing designed for a teenage American audience. When you look at this, you gotta realise how perfectly Lambert and Meeks' Raidens were for their roles (I wont include Remar cos he was just shit, as was his movie).

They tried the video-game big-booming-voice over-seeing God-style Raiden in the live-action videos in MK Mythologies, and in its setting it did not work. It came across as too campy and cliché... whereas the less-than serious atmosphere in both the movie and show required a Western actor who could play the character with a sick humour who'll be the serious bringer of wisdom when needed but also simply 'enjoys' being a God.
If the MK movies had represented the series as the first game did, then yes, an Oriental actor playing it very seriously would be perfect... but the movie and show werent made like that, and the Raiden's they did portray were exactly what was needed in those situations.

Personally I think Meeks was the best Raiden, but that's just my opinion - his depraved humour in such scenes where he was drunk, decided to get himself a girl (who called him Ray) and was basically on vacation, was a total polar opposite to the character when he faced certain doom and turmoil in the final episode, where he kicked a ton of ass and had some awesome lines. I just liked the variety shown in the character there, of course a TV show over 22 weeks is of course more likely to show the ranges of the role far more than a 90 minute movie.

Putting it simply, I would change it so it would be like MK-A New Dawn. Read it and see what I mean.

Hell yeah. If it was even half as good as mkand, than it would be 50x better than mka.

I seriously think MK and SHOULD be the next film.

I personally didn't mind the movie, I thought it was okay, then again, that's just me! Any how, I would've used Christopher Lambert as Rayden, and the Sonya from MK1, both are way better at the roles then the actor/actress they used. So in MK3, if/when it's ever released, they should come back and assume those roles. smile

I just have a Q...to the original poster...why would the spirit of Kung Lao want to warn Liu about Shang Tsung? Tsung died in the first movie?

* ADD KINTARO (motaro can stay if he really wants to)

* Replace the stupid dramatic scenes with nice dramatic scenes

(Was the discovery that Raiden is Kahn's brother supposed to be shocking? it didn't do shit for me)

*make baraka cooler.
Instead of having cool blades he had 2 jacknifes popping out of his arms
(yes, i saw the movie once, 7 years ago, and i remember that)

*make the entire movie less rushed!
it was all like, jumping from scene to scene, bad guys popping every 2 seconds.

I've never seen the original poster. It mentioned Kung Lao and Shang Tsung?

I did mention earlier on this thread that I would've changed just about everything about MKA.

I'll name things that I really, I mean really would've changed about this crappy movie.

I would've had Shao Kahn look the same way he did at the end of the first movie and I would not have had him unmasked!

I would've given Sindel solid white hair with a black streak in the middle.

I would've hired a black actress to play Jade.

I would've given many of the cameoed characters much bigger roles.

I would've tried getting the original cast back.

If I was gonna include a character from MK4, I would not have used Shinnok. I would've used Fujin.

I would not have had Rayden give himself a make over just b/c he turned into a mortal.

I would not have used a mud fight! I would used a fight in a puddle of blood perhaps.

I would've had Jaxx act like a military general and not like some street thug from the hood.

I would not have had Sonya in shorts and a tank top. I would've had her something a military woman would wear while she's out on a war mission.

I definitely would NOT have made Shao Kahn and Rayden brothers! God that was so retarded!

I would've had Liu Kang jouneying with Kung Lao (the modern one of course) like he did in the game storylin.

I also would've made Kung Lao and Kabal (two character that got ditched) one of the main characters fighting with the other earth warriors.

I would not have Americanized the movie either! I would've tried making it look more Asain like in the games! It's like just b/c Rayden was played by a white actor in MK1 didn't mean the other immortal characters had to played by white actors too!

I would not have included christianity in this either! MK is suppost to be a religion and mythology of it's own SO keep christianity out of it!

That's all I can think of.

exactly, they didn't need to go right to MK3 along with it's craptacular costumes. There was nothing and i repeat nothing redeeming about this movie other than the title Mortal Kombat. It should've never been made.
