The first movie was awesome! It followed the game pretty well.

The second movie was more of a fantasy movie, the only part that followed the game was Sindel being reborn on earth. Everything else was faked for the movie >_>

The first movie was good, but why did they base the second movie on the third game?If they base the third movie on MK2,MKDA or MKD,it will be better than the first.I won't even think about seeing if it is based on MK4.confused

Why not? MK4 actually had a good story line.

as for the question of the thread, who knows.
I hope so. But the first movie will always be there and never forgotten, a classic, faithful movie to a once beloved franchise....

The game followed MKM:SZ pretty well.
In MKM:SZ Subby was tricked to get the amulet for Shinnok then he (Shinnok) was sent tot he Netherrealm and in MK4 he gets out of the Netherrealm.

If they base the movie on MKDA and MKD it should be a awsome movie and if they spend a litle bit of money (wich they have) they sould be able to get good actors and actress for the movie.

I hope so, but a lot of people said this about MK:Annihilation and, IMO, that was a pretty crap film. MK1 was pretty good though!

I think Annihilation was an ok film as a stand-alone movie. It was just a crappy MK movie. If that makes any sense grin

If it didn't have the MK title attached to it, it would be a decent fantasy movie. But being considered an "MK" movie, it's just crap.

The majority of MK's storyline is what most non-gamers would call 'not movie-safe'. This means that outside of the game's fanbase, the movie's plot and story will appear entirely too fictional and farfetched to really digest to your standard, mainstream movie-goer. To keep faithful to a storyline such as MK4's, the movie would not do good. There are too many characters that must be introduced and 'meshed' with the audience before they hold an value in the movie watcher's eye.

The first movie did so well because: A) it had awesome fighting which was grasped by martial arts fans. B) Was written well. C) The main characters were very human and many people could connect with them. All three of them had legitimate reasons that had them enter this 'tournament'. Not to mention the original MK movie had done the fundamentals of movie making wonderfully- music, atmosphere, etc.

If you would have done a cut-and-dry from the Arcade MK1 game, the first MK movie would not have seemed plausible at all.

And it's also annoying that they made Kahn and Raiden "brothers" when they aren't related in the games.
And why did Rain and Johnny Cage have to die so quickly and easily?

I'm sorry to break the news to you, but nothing in the first movie followed any of the games well at all...

Unless you consider Scorpion to be evil in the games (which he's not), and to be a mindless drone that does nothing but fight and take orders from Shang Tsung (which he doesnt in the games)... That goes for Sub-Zero too.

I can go on and on about the things they fucked up in the movie.

But oh well, the movie's a cinematic masterpiece compared to MKA. And if the director of MKA does the new movie, it won't be good at all. smile

I'm guessing you've never seen MK:TJB, as it explains why Scorpion was following Shang's orders.
According to The Journey Begins, if someone else kills Sub Zero, Scorpion will miss his chance to exact revenge - thus not being allowed to enter the hallowed victory halls of his clan. If he fails again (or someone else kills Subby) then Scorpion's soul will be hurled into oblivion.

As Shang Tsung says, "Help Sub Zero now, and you can personally kill him later."

I really didn't like the first movie very well, either. First off, it didn't follow the game as well as everyone seems to think it did. First, Shang Tsung wasn't an old man in it. This makes sense, though, since he needed a fight scene, and not too many real old people are excellent fighters. Second, they have Johnny Cage defeating Goro. Kanon says Liu Kang defeats him, then Johnny Cage, Sonya, and Kano have to band together to fight him. They're in the middle of the battle when Shang Tsung is defeated and his island collapses, thus trapping them (except Cage, who is saved by Raiden), leading up to them being gone in MK2.
Third, none of the Ninja are really right. First off, they all looked kind of stupid, with the way their masks and costumes were done, but I can put that aside. They were all also mindless servants of Shang Tsung. Which is bad and wrong. I really didn't like the way Reptile's fight scene ended. Someone who's responsible for several genocides, and has a long, cool fight scene, better than the 'main' scene, is defeated by the bicycle kick.

Also, few or none of the characters really looked right, I don't think it captured the MK feel, the acting was terrible, and the script seemed, to me, to emphasize the weaknesses in the first game's story. That, and the fight scenes were mediocre coreography and okay martial artists, for the most part.
