I think NRS (Ed Boon specifically) are reluctant to use Kai, Fujin, Reiko etc. because they are partially (to some extent) John Tobias' invention and he's no longer associated with them. I don't think WB want to disrespect the origination of MK4 characters, so this would expain why they're hesitant with 3D era characters.

By the time MK4 had come about, we were able to do a little bit more with the 3D graphics. I think that’s what ultimately sparked the transition for us. On that game, I actually didn’t do any of the specific modeling on the characters. There was another artist we had working on the game, but I was tasked with designing those characters.

You know John Tobias created almost every other character from MK1 through MK4, right?

You know John Tobias created almost every other character from MK1 through MK4, right?
I will give an example. Not to be controversial but why do you think Noob Saibot is just referred to as Noob (from MKD onwards) then? Because Boon and Tobias are separated and Boon is tentative with using the surname (Saibot) out of regards for Tobias (this is probably why he put him with Smoke). Tobias had rights to the character too.

No, that was just what Ed Boon said he thinks the character as but in reality the clones are just that, clones. Noob Saibot is the name of the character.

Havik and Kai for DLC since they don't have to do with the current story but they have movesets you can explore (Haviks bizarre limb breaking and Kai being the true capoeira character he never got to be) that people would embrace.

Um...Frost? Though I wouldn't shed a tear if she was a premier skin for Sub-Zero. There's really not a lot of 3D Era characters I want for this game considering its mere minutes after MKX and then back to the Past and other time shenanigans.

Honestly didn’t realize I’d already voted but apparently it let me do so again lol. Anyways, this time I voted for:
Sareena: So much potential. A demon, an assassin, and if that’s not enough to create a movelist with, she also has two friends, Kia and Jataaka who could help make an awesome TMNT variation.
Fujin: I know he’s likely in KP2 but this should be a no brainer. He should’ve been in the main story.
Kai: I still love this guy’s potential. He had the (very) rudimentary beginnings of a capoeira style and I think they could do some awesome stuff to expand upon that.
Reiko: He was so awesome in the MKX comic. How are they still leaving this guy in the dust? Bring him back. Update him. He could be great.
Nitara: C’mon, I know we have a blood character, but a vampire can be so much more. Transformations, enchantments, mind control. There’s a metric ton that could be done with her.
Li Mei: I honestly thought she was a near foregone conclusion when I saw her reinterpretation in MKX, but I guess not. I still think she has a role to play, and if they won’t give Mileena stans their character, maybe Li Mei is the next best thing?

Reiki Fujin Havik and Kai are rejects... They should stay away from the main roster. Utterly boring.
Kenshi should be a returning character.
Sareena should be given another chance.
Shinnok should never come back. Utterly boring.
I won't bother speaking about the MKDA-A cast. Shujinko is good and I find him very interesting tho.
