While I think ones sexuality or gender doesn't need to be displayed or be spoken about, on the other hand it is still needed, even in the game-community. Although I'm also one that thinks they shouldn't get extra praise for it. Because in the end we are still only applying "acceptance" to one person, because they have a certain presence in a certain community.
I'm part of that rainbow-flag, but I don't really notice any benefit because of "higher profiles" in a certain community.

But I also get tired of everything that isn't traditional stereotypical being labelled social justice in a negative way. Certainly in a game like Mortal Kombat, it has never felt forced and even I am someone that is against things getting forced just because of getting the "right" message out.
To me, gaming is just about gaming and all the rest shouldn't matter. But I also know that "having nothing against it", isn't the same as "we accept you and are the same as any other individual". So representation is still necessary.
On youtube you also see a lot of comments and it's downright scary what you read there. If you look at the comments for the videos of the new Terminator movie or those video's that discus a bit of some of the male character of Fatal Fury(?) being turned into female versions, I was appaled at what I read and actually started to (indirectly) worry about my life. It's scary that there is so much hatred out there just because of the inclusion of a character in a movie or game.

Could put a transperson in Mortal Kombat :). But that would just be for the sake of it. And then again... with the shape shifting Shang Tsung, we could've already have that :).

I didn't even think about Kronika being a woman, because I don't really think it's relevant in any way. My assumption is that the character could easily be male, but NRS just said " Y'know, we've never had a female boss." Or the design for a female Kronika was much better than a male equivalent.

That said, I hope this doesn't get wrapped up in some gender/identity politics garbage. MKX tackled Kung Jin's sexuality PERFECTLY. A subtle nod, some remarks, not all in your face trying to score brownie points with journalists. In fact, we see fault in former hero Liu Kang who disapproves and refers to Kung Jin's sexuality as "proclivities." Kung Jin didn't need a rainbow g-string to strike a chord, and Kronika doesn't have to "Yass kween slay" to establish female bosses as a part of the MK Universe.

If not a single word is uttered about Kronika being female, I'd be happy. Because, really, when an evil god is destroying all of reality, I doubt you give a shit about what kind of junk it has.

If NRS went the route of Bruce Jenner and turned Scorpion, for example, into Female Scorpion, I'd definitely start questioning my loyalty to the franchise. It's one thing to be inclusive for the sake of appealing to all individuals who feel it necessary to throw labels on everything, but it's another thing to go changing a character's gender. Honestly, something as drastic a move as that, to me, would seem like a forced attempt at being diverse. I'm not at all against the choices one may make and I'm not getting into a political debate in a "Mortal Kombat" forum. Just keep the gender switching to the fan fiction archives, lol.

Now, when it comes to certain dark corners of the internet, I can understand how you'd be disgusted by what you read. It's an entirely different issue when you read something and legitimately fear for your safety. The internet is a place where individuals speak freely and openly. In some spaces, the subject matter can be a bit dark and sometimes even unnerving. If ever you feel offended to the point of being disgusted, avoid the area in which you were offended. Or, in the case of a a perceivable threat, report the offender to the appropriate authority and move forward as you see fit. This is not to say that you shouldn't feel comfortable when you surf the web. But, given my level of experience on the "inter-webs", I've learned that it takes some trial-and-error to figure out where you feel most comfortable.

Most people on the internet are going to go about their business without trying to draw attention to themselves. Those who elect to be excessively hateful/bigoted are in the minority, which makes up a mere fraction of the total number of internet users. Just know that most of us aren't here to do you any harm and some would even feel right at home lending a comforting word in times of distress.

But, yeah... Yay, MK!

Funny enough I saw these comments the day before yesterday. I was looking for some info on the Scorpion mask of the Kollectors Edition and that video was also about some supposedly sjw stuff regarding MK. It apparantly had something to do with Ronda, her being an MMA fighter and her experience with fighting another fighter that is transgender. I don't know the backstory of it, but apparantly it was a good reason for many to attack transpeople.
So, I try to avoid these things and I try to ignore comments, but it isn't always easy. I especially hate it when these comments appear on stuff I like. But I also don't want people to think it is ok to spew such things and think that people like me wont stand their ground.

And ofcourse, I would be scratching my head also if they would turn Scorpion female. Shang Tsung has enough "transitioning" for me :D
And indeed... YAY MORTAL KOMBAT :).

I don't care if a fighter, or a boss, is male or female. What I care is NRS clearly did go SJW because all the females revealed, so far, look non-binary and manly. It seems anything feminine is banned in MK11, but the males can be half-naked and popping in muscles. Mortal Kombat: Pink Pussy Hat Edition seems to be a reality, unfortunately. Let us hope they change some of the designs before release.

Pretty girls wouldn't win battles in the first place... Kitana is a pretty girl, she will be revealed later, I'm happy Sonya isn't pretty girl #10 anymore.

Idunno. Skarlet has shorter hair but still has an attractive feminine face, has a feminine manner of speaking, and so on. Apparently short hair is enough to trigger your anti-SJW radar, which must be a terribly stressful way to live. I'm sorry.

Have you seen how NRS renders female faces? Skarlet's probably the most attractively feminine fighter they've produced...

Ehh...I can not agree. I think Sareena from MKX has a much more attractive face then any of the female characters so far revealed in MK11. Even looking back, Poison Ivy in Injustice 2 takes the top spot in my opinion for NRS female faces. Actually a lot of the female face were very pretty in Injustice 2. Poison Ivy, Wonder Woman and Black Canary were standouts for me.

I think Kitana and Sindel's face in MKX was more than OK... Skarlet is a little strange looking with this short hair, but she looks pretty tho.

Kronika looks like a shaved off transgender Britney Spears, but that makes her unique, we dont need all the females look like sex symbols.

To my recollection, Injustice 2 didn't have a great start with (some of) the female faces either in that game. I remember a particularly "outcry" about Supergirls(?) face. Face of Sonya could be better, there is something off there. But Konika and Skarlet are just fine in my opinion. And D'vorah... well... bug-lady just became a whole lot more "buggy" :).

Don't be so harsh on them, Jax punshes both Kitana and Sindel and beats them, then Takeda does the same with almost ALL revenants at the same time, male power is good represented.

I love this new Boss Lady, females can be evil and powerful as well.

I agree on the Cassie part though, that was horrible. But then again, Cassie and Jacqui are the worst creations they have made up, and I thought they couldn't get any worse than Li Mei and Bo Rai Cho... I hate selfie girls, and Cassie is all that.

I really can't understand that many tough male MK fans actually like Cassie Cage... She doesn't only act pathetic, she also takes away the speciality of both Johnny and Sonya Blade, turning them into boring parents with repeative moves they share with their pathetic selfie-daughter snob..

I hate the mortal kombat fans, Sindel, Mileena, Kitana and Rain fans HATE on each other, because there is some stupid rule that you only can like Kitan OR Mileena, but not BOTH... same with Sindel fans which mostly hate on Rain for some reasons or don't care about him.. How can fans of voice and hair-based powers don't like weather/water powers? Hate on Cassie instead!

I'm not sure you were paying attention. FIRST, kombat klassic Mary Sue Johnny Cage humiliates an Elder God. To protect a helpless woman who falls in love with him for his Big Damn Heroics. Then Cassie gets literally schooled by male characters in a training-wheels mission. Meanwhile, Mileena is shown to be an incompetent pretender to the Outworld throne, Kitana chooses literal slavery to a powerful man over having to take personal responsibility for her own destiny, and Scorpion dominates both Sonya and the dude she emasculated with his collection of body-penetrating phallic symbols and fiery Yang energy.

Feminism in small doses! I hope you choke on all this throbbing testosterone power, mattteo!

Are you fu**ing dumb? Isn;t it normal for Sub-Zero to scold some brats who just entered the Mortal Kombat universe?

Also, Johnny Cage saving Sonya who falls for him was ALL OVER THE FIRST MOVIE YOU SERIOUSLY DISTURBED FEMINIST.

Why was it ok for those times but it's not ok now? Because you have a lousy mentality and feminists changed the world for the worse in 20 years since the MK movie, that's why!

It's terrifying to see how some people still view a female in a position of power in this day and age. Wouldn't have given two-cents' thought to Sonya, a hero, beating up Quan Chi, a villain, being a deliberate "SJW AGENDA!!!" move... just wow.

That's not what it is. I respect women fighters, I really do. I like them. But they must retain their feminity. There shouldn;t be women fighters to beat Raiden or Shao Kahn or Quan Chi or Shinnok, they just aren't that strong. With how this is feminism is going, Kitana is probably gonna kick Shao Kahn's ass in MK11. Which is not ok.

They are good fighters, but they have to be below the men in the lore. They can have other purposes. Reptile even admits it himself, he's not a great warrior, Kotal Kahn was sent to kill him because he failed, but he saw value in him as a spy.

I respect when they defeat their men opoonents very hard (like how Sonya barely won against Kano in the movie, she almost died), not when they stomp on their testicles. It's just not right having Cassie Cage defeat Shinnok, a being so much more powerful than anyone.

Sometimes, women need moments to be saved too:

Just wanted to interject a bit into this part, but strength isn't the only thing that wins a fight. Speed, technique, fitness/stamina, ... (and in a real fight [not bound by rules] ), circuimstance.
I've fought someone whos biceps were almost as big as my head, but was still able to win because he really had to choose carefully when and how to punch. I just had to dodge those punches and was always able to get several hits in before he was able to block again. And after trying to deal a few punches, he was so tired, his blocking became horrible and losing focus, not even being able to punch anymore. At that point I was able to deal free punches.
That was against someone bigger and stronger than me, but I had more speed, technique and stamina than him. In our club we even had a small and skinny guy who was so fast,he could be a few meters from you, be in front of you in an instant and already having a few punches in before you realized what happened.
Winning a fight isn't determined by gender or even strength. I wouldn't underestimate what sheer willpower can accomplish.

I also remember Cassie being able to beat Shinnok because of that "green glow",. The same "green glow" as Johnny Cage had in the beginning where Shinnok also had trouble.
