I do respectfully disagree with you, queve. Scorpion is no where near my favorite, but I still think that, as redundant as he has been, he has a very compelling story, significantly more than most characters, including Ashrah.

Scorpion is a man defeated in combat and mercilessly murdered by the elder Sub-Zero as he begged for his life. He returned from beyond the grave (due to Quan Chi's magic) and came home to find his entire clan slaughtered, and he found the corpses of his wife and child. In one fell swoop, he lost anything and everything that mattered to him and the only thing he had left to live for was to avenge the murder of himself and his family. He kills Sub-Zero, but is duped into believing that the Lin Kuei butchered his loved ones.

He hunts down the new Sub-Zero, feeling his cause is just and noble, fueled and sustained by his hatred, only to discover he was misguided and deceived by Quan Chi, who becomes the new target of his wrath, but Quan Chi proves to be a tricky and slippery opponent and eludes the hellspawn he himself created time and time again, leading to a rather dramatic cat-and-mouse game throughout Deadly Alliance.

I wasn't too pleased with Scorpion becoming the "chosen one" of the Elder Gods, though. That didn't seem right, or feel appropriate. But everything up until that point must have been a rather emotional rollercoaster for Scorpion, dealing with his own death, the loss of his friends, the murder of his wife and son (whom he even became a ninja in the first place to support), the hunt for Sub-Zero, the dealings with younger Sub-Zero, the betrayal of Quan Chi, and his repeated paths of hatred and redemption. He may not have the best story, but he's got a fairly good one still.

But back to Mileena, in agreement, again, with T-Rex, Mileena is a character that had a starting point in MK2 and evolved throughout the series. This is Mileena in one of her earliest appearances, young, psychotic, and childish. She doesn't have the experiences needed to help her mature; her mind is a fairly blank slate and thus, with little prior experiences to tap into, follows base instinct instead. The fact that Kahn only encourages her "animal" side, and she wants to please him, just strengthens her childish, immature side during this point of the timeline. She hasn't yet let out her aggressions against Kitana, she hasn't yet incurred the trauma of death, and she may not yet even know that she's not really Kitana's sister. She hasn't returned from the grave, she hasn't taken Kitana's place and found herself in a position of power (of which she herself said she no longer wished for Kahn's approval, having grown past it), and depending on how she interacts with Baraka in this game, she hasn't yet moved beyond her dependency on him either (like she does in later games). She's still partially bestial, but she learns to harness and control those childish impulses as she matures and gains experience and wisdom.

This isn't that part of her character arc, yet. This is her beginning. She's not the finely cut gemstone she ends up becoming, but rather this is her fresh from the rocky mines; dirty, misshapen, unpolished, raw, and sharp. And I personally feel it's a fascinating look at where Mileena got her beginnings and how her decisions and experiences lead her down the path she later takes.

Yeah, Scorpion and Sub-Zero haven't been my favorites since maybe MK4. Yet, I have no problem at all and completely understand why they are the poster boys of MK. When you think of casual fans and people who have heard of MK, the first people they will remember are Scorpion and Sub-Zero. Plain and simple, no doubt about it. As a long time MK fan you might know all the characters in great detail, but to someone who casually played the game back in the 90's, or just general iconic knowledge of video games in general...they aren't going to be like: "Yeah, Mortal Kombat, man Mileena was great...or Sonya was awesome etc.". It's all about Scorpion and Sub-Zero.

It's for good reason too. They have a very iconic look, and you can't think of video game ninjas without immediately them popping into your head. However, when you think of iconic video game females...Sonya, Kitana, and Mileena aren't necessarily a given. To an MK fan, sure, but to a casual gamer...not so much. Same could be said for 95% of the MK cast. The only other ones that really stick out in casual gamer's minds is maybe Raiden and possibly Liu Kang. Raiden because of his hat, and Liu Kang because of him being the first Bruce Lee inspired video game character, and his trademark turkey noises.

Regardless, Scorpion and Sub-Zero are the faces of the series. There's a reason why they are in every game, because if they weren't in one...the fans would backlash. The marketing should be centered around them, and anyone who thinks another character is gonna sell the game as well as them, they're only letting their fandom bias their opinion. I would love to see my favorite characters such as Cyrax and Kano as well as many other MK originals included in marketing and stuff as well, but I completely understand why they aren't, and I don't go complaining about it and freaking out everytime something comes out revolving around Scorp and Sub. Honestly, the constant complaining and disappointment everytime some promotional material or content featuring those two comes out, is just redundant and annoying. I understand your complaints, I just don't think it's worth complaining about, seeing as what they are doing makes complete sense from a marketing standpoint.

I just get a bit annoyed after I have to explain the same thing in three different ways. And trust me,Queve,if I was really trying to be disrespectful,you'd know.

To the topic at hand, I think it's silly to get all in a fuss about what they have and haven't told us about Mileena in this video. They told us about as much as we knew about her in MK2, which is totally fine by me. I'm not looking for a life story in a one-minute video, and neither should anyone else. Be patient, guys.

I've actually watched this video more times, and, you know what guys? I'm liking it. I still fear Mileena will be downgraded to something she doesn't deserve, but. I've been one of the biggest supporters of "psycho/crazy/sadistic/sexy" Mileena, so, hopefully they will exploit her "human side" as the story progresses.

As we learned more about her in her following bios we got some light about how she actually was (also) during MK2 and her beginnings. They developed that part (MKU-MKA Mileena) later in the games which provided more insight about the character, yes, but that doesn't mean she didn't have SOME of those qualities already established in MK2. We just happened to learn them as the games advanced: not because "she evolved for the storyline because she died, etc", but, because "the storyline evolved and gave us more insight of her as a whole, past and present".

Regarding Scorpion: I do agree he has a decent storyline that is deeper than some characters. However, I still think his role is overrated as a whole. Very overrated. It is not as "complex" as some make it out to be. He has interesting points like any character with a nice stale storyline that make him worthy of MK's top faves, but, nothing truly ultra mega special like (for example) Sareena (and still imo) Ashrah.

Ok, 8 pages and I'll be damned if I read through all of it, so at the risk of asking something that may have already been answered-

In the vignette, it states that "Determined to destroy her rival Kitana, Mileena entered the Mortal Kombat tournament ready to butcher anyone and everyone who gets in her way".

Could it be possible that one of the "changes" they are making is having Mileena(and Kitana) present during the MK1 tournament? It would add more weight to those "Mileena kills Liu" theories.

Or maybe I shouldn't take these videos seriously.
