I've been happy about this since day one

it's cool wombat / razor, I concede. I see now that NRS are lazy uncaring bastards who made five hours worth of story mode for the sole purpose of trolling the true fans. They also included Kratos under the influence of sony booth babe hummers and have thrown out every bit of old source, art, and promotional material from every other game in the series.
Have fun paying to support their evil empire in 3 weeks.

That's definitely not a good sign as to the testament of the Mortal Kombat saga, since Deception has terrible everything included its story. Haphazardly removing characters just introduced, the debut of a bunch of realms that have no business whatsoever even being in the game, reintroducing long forgotten characters for no reason, a new main character who only a handful of people actually like. Virtually anyone could've crapped out a better story than Deception's bullshit.
That shit was made up on the fly and they probably didn't finalize any of that garbage until like a month before release. Skab Saibot, anyone?

Okay here it goes:
1. If you don't like it, don't buy it. And seriously, two people here should really just not buy it and move on with their lives.
2. You're saying it's bad writing because you don't like it. If this were the first MK ever and you didn't have an attachment to the characters you probably wouldn't think it's that bad. Think about NRS. They have been working on this story for 20 years. Think of how bored they must be with some of these characters. This is their chance to start over, whether you like it or not.

I'd raise my hand, but I only have a 360.
And no, I don't think this game isn't the best that NRS could do, but it's not a colossal trainwreck either, IMO.

Well mainly I mean Deadly Alliance was the best.
Deception did make a mistake dumping Mavado and Nitara, introducing Seido, the way Shujinko's personality was written, botching Cyber-Smoke's comeback...
...but at the same time, it also gave us the epic story of how the MK universe was created, Sub-Zero's awesome cryomancer origin, the revelation for the first time that Noob is Elder Sub, it made cardboard-bland Raiden interesting again for the first time in years by corrupting him and thus, giving him an actual personality for once, and Liu Kang's body being used as a rotting tool for murder, for all the crap it gets from people, was actually a really cool way, in a sick ironic sense, to bring back a killed off hero.
So I say it breaks even.

Man, Raiden was really fucked up to do that shit. lol
And Scorpion as the Elder Gods Champion was a nice new touch, also.

Damn, I forgot that one. Best story Scorpion's had since MK2.

Still wish it was him who killed Onaga and not dipshit Shujinko.

I only have a 360 & don't have a PS3 either, but it's no big deal. I don't buy fighting games due to guest or gimmick characters, & the 360 version of this game really doesn't need any. Plus I bet that the PS3 owners are mostly going to purchase this title only because they want to play as Kratos, in which they're really NOT MK fans.
True MK fans would buy this game for the game itself, & not because of a guest/gimmick character that doesn't even belong here in the series.

Would've been cooler if Liu Kang had stayed dead longer than one game. I felt him being brought back so fast was a step BACKWARD. The same with Kahhn/Goro, even though they really didn't die.

Amen to that. NRS did me a favor by not giving me Kratos. PS3 fans can giggle and cackle and tease all they like, but to me it's like bragging about having a broken foot. lol.

Kratos's inclusion won't affect me in anyway whatsoever.
*Sighs* Despite that the thread has completely gone off-topic, might as well contribute since this is always a thing coming around here.
Unfortunately people here don't really understand the whole concept of "if you don't like it, don't get it." And if they don't like it, they should shut up about it and stop trying to bring other users down to their level and see that it sucks when they've been very pleased about it. I've been seeing several users complain about the game and trying to get people to understand that what they're getting themselves into is a bad thing all because of the story was poorly written for them. That's fine, if the story sucked in their eyes, then it sucked. But I refuse to let people continue dragging other users down and make them see that it sucks as well. That's stupid.
I don't really think the developers would get bored with something that basically got them putting food on the table. (Yeah, they've worked on other games but still...)
This story liking/disliking issue seems ridiculous to be honest.

I hate how Kahn and Goro were brought back too, but in Liu Kang's case...a few years ago, I would've agreed with you. But now that I know what the sequel to Deception was, and that Deception was only ever going to get that one sequel, there never were and probably never again will be any more games in that timeline, I'm actually glad they pulled the zombie Liu thing off when they did instead of Armageddon being the first time we saw him like that.
Since Deception was the last fully fleshed out game and MKA was basically released incomplete, doing it in Deception gave them a bit more room to develop things, like to show how corrupt Dark Raiden is exactly, and how Liu's soul was freed to become a ghost when Shang died, so it immediately went to help out Bo' and Kitana.
