Alright, so if they ever release DLC for MK2011 telling the story of MKMSZ (since everybody knows MK10 will most likely be MK4 with changes, it would be cool to tell the story of Shinnok and all that) but...

Do you think NRS would even bother to reference Lucifer? Take him out completely? What?

Would you even want to see Lucifer?

In this day and age, I could see adding a biblical figure a little more upsetting to certain people.

I always thought it would be cool to bring Lucifer back as a character.
A version that fits more in line with what you expect of MK's mythology, rather than a literal reflection of existing mythology, similar to Raiden. Not sure how much faith I have in their ability to create palatable, appropriate new material right now, though.

We've also really got to get off this DLC track. Stop volunteering to spend more than you need to for tiny things. Maybe Lucifer could play a role in a future game, but I wouldn't pay for a tiny incomplete piece.

I like Lucifer being used as a stepping stone. Beside "the devil" being used so much in stories, the name Lucifer can't escape being associated with Satan, so I'm for distancing. Plus it gives a boost to Shinnok and Quan Chi that they were able to take him out.
If Lucifer is immortal as thus can't die, I thought a humiliating fate would be to actually be Quan Chi's living staff, the reason it's "Living". The face of the staff could be Lucifer's as well as the powers coming out of it, It shows how twisted Quan Chi is.

I think having Lucifer in the MK mythos is one of the stupidest things to include.

Retcon him out of there. Maybe even just give him a different name. But the devil shouldnt be in MK.

Definitely not. I like thinking of Shinnok as the MK version of Lucifer, a divine being who fell from grace and became the ruler of hell. If only they could improve Shinnok's design, I hate what he looks like.

Okay...

But Shinnok has to kill the previous ruler in the story.

So it has to be someone other then Shinnok.

Well it can be some demon character with a different name then.

I don't know how well it meshes with the few established specifics we have for the MK Lucifer, but I always thought it would be fun if he was more of a protectoral god for the Netherrealm. Functionally different to Raiden, but in a similar role dedicated to the greater good of the realms. Which was upset when Shinnok overthrew him and roll subsequent storylines. Not necessarily a good character, but a character of purpose.

Ahh my good friend lucifer...JK. Well Shinnok took the Netherrealm away from lucifer back in the day. I always thought that if MK somehow found a way to make Lucifer more MKish and brought him back that he would take the Netherrealm back over again and close off all portals between the living and dead. My idea of Lucifer in MK is that he would rather torture the occupants of the Netherrealm and never let them escape than say Shinnok trying to take over realms and always letting Quan, Noob, and Scorpion get out to do his bidding.

Bottom Line is that Lucifer should be the ruler that wants to torture and close off the gates of Hell to where No One leaves and No One comes in alive.

Shinnok wants to rule all realms and doesnt mind the Netherrealm seaping dead warriors out so Nobody ever truly dies in MK.

They brought Lucifer into the latest Castlevania game and now he trumps Dracula as the main bad guy. I'd like to see him in the next MK game however not like that as the new all powerful super villain.

I wouldn't mind if he were introduced. It would give us some more background on Shinnok and could give us a new interesting character if done correctly.

If people are upset over the name, they could just make "Lucifer" a title and give him a different name. Kind of like Onaga, the Dragon King.

In MK Mythologies, it was mentioned that Lucifer was the original ruler of the Netherrealm. When Shinnok was banished, Lucifer tortured him for centuries. With Quan Chi's help, Shinnok managed to escape and usurp control of the Netherrealm from Lucifer, who hasn't been seen since.

I read a fanfic a while back (I'm talking pre Deadly Alliance), where Lucifer rose again to try and conquer the realms. But really, I'm happy with Shinnok being the MK10 villain; assuming they actually make him imposing.

The thought had crossed my mind after I played LOS. While I wouldn't want him to look like the gloomy quasi-metalhead he appeared as therein, I wouldn't want him to be portrayed like anything even resembling the Judeo-Christian devil either.

The concept could work, it has merit.

Thing is, it's not really the devil. Tobias just used a the name from Christian Mythology, just like he stole numerous other names from Eastern religions.

But anyway, I don't really want to see Lucifer in the game. We have an expansive cast as it is, and making historically relevant characters into playable fighters is just one more unnecessary gimmick. We don't need to see Lucifer, or Jerrod, or Sonya's Father.

All I need is a little concept art of Shinnok's fall from grace and his rise to power in the Netherrealm with Quan Chi at his side. When the next game comes out, there could just be like a one-second glimpse of Lucifer's general shape in Shinnok's vignette or something, and I'll be perfectly happy.

But playable Lucifer? Absolutely not. I don't even want him as an NPC. He's just a part of Shinnok's backstory, and that's all he ever needs to be.

Fair point, and I'm aware. But I think the name itself is too ingrained into Westerm culture for people to not draw comparisons. You can keep the characters concept, just change that name. They could even make it "Kochal" I don't really care. haha

Oh for fuck's sake.

As if MK would be the first fucking game to have Satan in it.

Lucifer is just a fitting name, its not meant to be THE Lucifer of Christian mythology. It fits fine. Sheeva is named for Shiva, the Hindu God of destruction, after all.

And, Satanist here by the way, Lucifer is a positive name. The difference between Lucifer and Satan are significant

Now that I re-read what I wrote, I was getting at the wrong point.

Its boring, played out, overdone. everyone knows the devil. Everyone uses him. Hes not actually the biblical devil, why make him out to be like him with that name? Its lame. I know MK can be uncreative, but ex-out using the name Lucifer. Its just stupid.

Why? It's a good name. And it's underused in fiction as it is.

You think if they call him Mephisto or some shit, that's gonna sound better?

Raiden isn't the same as the Shinto Raiden either. I hate this stupid argument about how they shouldn't use the name Lucifer. It's just a name and tons of names in MK are from real world religions/mythologies.
