Me too. I've always felt awkward using an arcade stick. A controller just feels better and easier to use. Never had any problems playing fighting games with the PS3 sixaxis gamepad.

I had a HRAP 3, and just couldn't get used to it, sold it , then 2 years later I bought a Madcatz TE for SSFIV, and I still just can't get used to it. The only game I seem to be able to use the stick with are Marvel vs. Capcom 2, and SNK fighters. Anything more than 4 buttons and it just feels awkward.

Even if I did think the MK layout would help, I just spent $80 on a art / buttons / plexi to customize my stick, so I really can't see me picking this up.

Props to Madcatz though for making it an option.

This reminds me. I saw a closer look at the ps3 layout on the official stick and it irritates me thinking about executing the xray on time with the way it's positioned. Here's what I learned so far:

Square -> left punch
Triangle -> right punch
X - left kick
Circle - right kick

R1 - throw (pressing R1 + directional buttons to switch sides)
R2 - defense

L1 and L2 did not have any function in the demo build.
X-Ray move: R1+R2

You can use the breaker move once X-Ray bar is full.
Triangle to choose arena.

If the Madcatz panel fixes that Xray layout I'm all for it, because the SF4 TE was a sexy stick and big improvement for the company.

It seems odd that R1 and L2 would have any purpose. I could see switching stances, but I wonder how important that is to the game. I thought every character only gets one fighting style. So what's up with switching stances?

I'm guessing L1 will be EX special moves.

see I don't see shoulder buttons going over well with arcade sticks. I'll stay away from both.

Some of you fell to realize that HAPP products today aren't actual HAPP products. When they merged with that other company they moved to China and their quality has been garbage since. IL is basically today what HAPP was back in the day. Basically, you'll probably have to switch out those HAPP parts if you want an actual old school HAPP stick. I know. It's a little complicated, but that's what happen when American companies get shipped to China.

I've explained this before, when I played MK at the Gamestop Managers Conf this past Fall.

I spoke to Hans Lo about the movesets, and he explained that the Xray mode will be different for each character. It will not be some simple 1 button movement to pull it off. You must also time it perfectly from a particular move into performing it.

Plus, your button layout will be customizable in the settings.

R1 was throw, and L2 was Change Stance..I've went over this before.

This whole thing seems odd.

It is a panel to mod your TE stick to fit MK. But if you have a TE stick then you want it for Street Fighter and Marvel right.

So if you mod it then it becomes a mortal kombat only stick. It seems like it would make sense if you can switch them in and out on the fly. However, I think it takes a while to switch panels thus taking away the point of switching them back and forth.

So whats the point of this? To save money? Not really because you have to choose to either want the MK stick or the SF stick style. If you want the ease of switching fast then you need to buy a new TE with the MK panel.

Update: – February 7, 2010 – Mark Julio from Mad Catz now had this this to say on his Twitter:
Forgot to mention... The Combat FightStick Ultimate Edition panel for TE Sticks will be very limited, less than 300. However, this is just the initial run, as more will certainly be produced if the demand is there.

Additionally, MadCatz has released the following official images of their product:

On an arcade stick

Front Punch______Back Punch
__________Block__________
Front Kick________Back Kick

The button in the umk3 "run spot" functions as a tag button.
This functionality is the same as BP+BK.

Throws are done with FP+FK for reverse throw, towards+FP+FK for forward throw.
Xray's are done with FK+BLK+BK.

The game is made to work on a traditional MK1 layout.

Gonna stick with the standard street fighter Tourny layout that seems just easy as the mk layout to be fair, just think it depends what you get used to. looking at the execution thats needed for the throws etc from the previous message, think im gonna leave the face plate as is, to much messing around for me (unless the tourny edition MK stick comes to the uk, but thats another issue all together lol)

Here my Standard Te SF layout

TAG-- Back punch---Front punch
BLK-- Back kick-----Front kick
