The first trailer had me excited yet worried the gameplay was gonna basically be like MK vs DC. However turns out it don't look like it will be much like that at all really and I'm pleased with what I've seen. This game looks like the MK game I've been waiting for.

I'm a lil worried about the story but honestly it can't be worse than MK vs DC.

Anyways I was wondering mainly how you guys think this game will compare with Street Fight 4?

I personally am just not sure......

Overall MK 9 looks great and I really hope the online is stable and smooth.

It'll easily be 10 times better. Then again, I didn't think SFIV was that good, I liked SFIII

Possibly. I don't think any game will rival SSFIV in terms of balance, but one thing MK8 does have going for it is the personalization of combos. It'll be nice to see different interpretations on how to play Reptile or Sindel. There is some diversity on how to play characters in SF, but the amount is overstated. If you want to win with Akuma against equal-level opponents, you're going to use his vortex.

I personally think it has a good chance. The team seems pretty determined on making this a deep fighter. They have a year to tweak and balance the game and I believe in them. However, I have to admit I didnt have faith in them for quite a few years, but I've been converted.

well it is 2.5 D and they did copy the SF power bars, so I'd say pretty similar results.

I don't think reviewers will give it a higher score though, 94 is hard to beat, highest MK ever got was 81 with MKDA.

But for me, this one wins easily, SF collected dust when MK1 came out for me.

When Seth Killian said, "We want the game to be broken, just not too broken," I think many members of the MvsC fanbase had a panic attack.

I was hoping to really get a kick out of Street Fighter 4 when I bought it, but I didn't really enjoy it much. It's likely I'm just not used to the way the series works, but for me, the movements and the specials of the characters felt too weak, which consequently made me feel very confined with doing a battle. I much prefer MK's over-the-top, more powerful special attacks, jumps, and runs (step-ins/outs). So I'll most definitely enjoy it a lot more.

I paraphrased a little, but he mentions it early in this video.

I never got wat was so good about sf4. it hurt my eyes too much and i could never grasp it. I suppose i didnt really give it much time, but when i read reviews of it gettin 9s and 10s it shocked me. It has to be noted i never liked the series always liked mk better and even thought Anihilation was better than the street fighter movie so im very biased

SF4 was good to me becuase of the small touches. I wanted to hate it. I REALLY wanted to hate it because I never liked SF. but I couldn't.

See the one thing I love above anything else is colorful characters beating each other's asses. It's why I like pro wrestling, it's why I like Team Fortress 2, it's why Mike Tyson's Punch-Out is the greatest game ever made.

But back on topic, for MK 2011 to be better than SF4:

1. Fighting needs to be fast and furious (looks like we're getting there)

2. Characters need to be fleshed out and unmistakable (see above)

3. Backdrops need to be environments, rather than just settings (they got this down)

4. Moves need to look like they hurt (they got it).

all this combined with the image and atmosphere they're going for would easily put it above SF4 in my eyes.

I still prefer Tekken over Mortal Kombat; But, I do think that Mortal Kombat could Possibly regain it's stability, but I highly doubt it.

It lost it's momentum years ago.

Well we are comparing a 2d style fighter to another 2d style fighter so it's irrelevant to point out Tekken in this particular case. MK never had a relevent 3D fighter, MKDA was the closest we got to one when it came out but even that fell short of the mark. in the 3D market, Tekken has other people to worry about, VF and SC for example.

As long as no character in Mortal Kombat is a cheating bastard like Seth in Street Fighter IV, I'll be happy. I hate that prick.

Anyways, I think this MK will defiantly contend with SFIV. It seems to me that Boon and company took all the good aspects of SFIV and touched them up to be even better in MK. Hopefully the characters are well balanced, which I have faith they will be, and this Mortal Kombat will be alot of fun.

In my eyes Mortal Kombat will be better than SSFlV, I never really liked the Street Fighter series the only game I liked was Street Fighter EX3 and that was for PS2 but that was collecting dust when I played MKD, Street Fighter 4 was an okay game but I just didn't like it that much, I didn't even bother to buy SSFlV because all they did was add characters and new Super Combos or whatever they call them. Mortal Kombat has been my favorite fighting game for a really long time and its going to stay that way, now in the new MK they are going to 2.5D, they brought back the Gruesome fatalities which I loved in MK2 and MK4, finally its about time they added a tag team mode I've been waiting for this for a really long time since Ultimate MK3 which was the closest we got to tag teams but you couldn't switch out your characters. MK9 will be the best one they have made and will beat SSFlV.furious

One thing I did notice was in the E3 vid, Sub-zero and Scorpion had an intro before the battle I couldn't hear what tey said, but I thing boon got this from Street Fighter 4/Super, I really like it though.. I love the Mk characters being able to say something at least.

It seems to me that those who say that Mortal Kombat will be better than Street Fighter are those who dislike the SF-series.

I am a huge fan of Street Fighter, as well as Mortal Kombat, and I have always seen the two series to be very seperate from one another. However, the upcoming MK seems similar to SF in that they are 2.5D games (2D fighting with 3D graphics). That is where the comparison ends in my opinion.

Street Fighter 4 was good, but I find Super Street Fighter 4 to be better, because there are more characters to choose from and ever character went from having 1 Ultra Combo to get 2 each.

Mortal Kombat however has a whole different gameplay. Yes, they have special moves like SF does, but so does a thousand other fighting series. It's nothing unique. What -is- unique though is the gory graphics, the style of fighting, the characters appearances etc etc.

The super bar addition to the new MK seems like what SF4 came out with, but the MK team has made theirs unique. The tag-team gameplay could be compared to that of the Marvel vs Capcom series, but again, the MK team has changed it to fit their gameplay.

That a series borrows something from another series and makes it theirs by changing it to fit the game is nothng foreign. It's been going on since the birth of video games. And I don't worry a bit about it one bit. The upcoming MK game is going to be just fantastic.

I think its matter of what cast you like more and how the games play. MK1-2 played close to what SF2, and all remakes, played like. Tho when MK3 came out they attacked a run and combos, ones that looked like combos and not just hit chains.

Then again I'm for the old arcade days when it was SF fans Vs MK fans so that could play a role in my dislike for SF as well tongue

MK9 to me, will be the ebst of all. I bought SF4 and i just hated it, absolutely made me hate it.

As someone who loves both I will be real honest SSF4 is played in tournaments around the world. If Mk is going to try and come up to
street fighter it has to make it to the competitive circles. We can talk about gameplay and story all day but its got to make it the tournaments.Hell blaze blue, the ass fest that was kof 12 are at this point.Everyone here are hardcore Mk fans so this point is ignored.

I think of this MK as the MK with the Street Fighter 4 treatment. Both are back to their roots while also adding new additions to the gameplay. I love Street Fighter 4. I don't like SF2 that much, because special moves seem harder to pull off and I hate the throw mechanic. SF4 on the other hand deserves the high ratings. The fighting is fast, easy to learn and hard to master, and there is a lot of depth and balance. I do think it is a little overrated though. Ken, Ryu, Sakura, Dan, and Akuma all share a lot of the same moves and play the same. It pisses me off that it gets so much praise for the variety of character play styles, but games like Smash bros. and MK get slammed when they do it.

I'm not even worried about it making it to tournaments. No matter how good this game is it won't make it, because it doesn't play like SF,BB,KOF, and MvsC, and it is an American game. Those tournaments seem biased to Japan and their games, and I don't think MK is popular over there. It really doesn't need to be a tournament game to sell either. The last MK sold well without making it to tourneys. And like I said earlier all of these tourney tards will never give it a shot because its a 2D fighter that plays a lot differently than those games.

Wrong, they'll give it a shot if it's well balanced or deep.If they can give Smash a shot, they'll give MK a shot.

I liked Street Fighter 4 but the story was horrific.
That's where MK wins, with its story.
After seeing the gameplay demo at E3 I think this MK will rival street fighter.
