What do any of you guys care if the marketing is bad?

Cause it's frustrating. Most of the recent character reveals have been in bad quality scans, and most of the fatalities have been revealed in bad bootlegged footage.

Ninja_Mime Wrote:
You're well aware of the game, you're going to buy it anyway. It's NRS/WB who should be worried about lack of promotion (Even though it will surely pick up before the release).

But it's still not smart to annoy the fanbase.

That's all we need to know.

Technically, we didn't even need to know that. But it's not about "needs," it's about "wants." If people want more media, and there's no reason to restrict media, they should give the people media. I don't seen the benefit in not doing so.

I feel it is your job as a fan to be a little more demanding and not take this half ass promotion as a gift to the community because then the whole industry will assume its ok to short change their fans. You know what, Im gonna be saying I told you so when this game drops and sales are slow because everyone is waiting on gameplay and reviews. Show the complete game before release and you'll win more first day buys.

I hope you guys realize it's all done intentionally. Boon said he wanted the 90's feel of not knowing everything until you actually played the game or had to browse through you favorite video-game magazine to find interesting new info. As far as I'm concerned, he's successful at that, and most of us should be all the more excited to play it once it's released. Have a little faith in the team, would ya? I'm sure they know exactly what they're doing.

How are they shorting the fans? I don't understand that comment at all. And don't say sales will be slow due to lack of marketing. You have no idea what will be released closer to the release date. Stop acting like this company is taking a dump in your mouth because they aren't. BE HAPPY WE HAVE A NEW MK GAME FFS

For those that feel bad marketing / not pleasing the fans is a big deal ... let me ask you this.

When was the last time Mortal Kombat as a franchise was actually relevant in the gaming world, relevant as in "Call of Duty" pop culture relevant ? It died with Mortal Kombat 3, but now here we are at Mortal Kombat 9.

This franchise survived because of die hard fans. The new Mortal Kombat is going back to 2D and classic game play because the developers realized that the hardcore fans wanted it.

To basically say "fuck the fans" and deal "with it" doesn't make a whole lot of sense now does it ?

Capcom is making a HUGE comeback in fighting games, not just because Street Fighter IV was a good game, but because it brought fighting games back into the mainstream, and the biggest part of that is because of the FIGHTING GAME COMMUNITY. People that sit at their computer streaming EVO going " OH SHIT " is the reason Capcom is reviving Street Fighter and Marvel Vs Capcom. They took the existing community and expanded on it.

Now take our little MK community, the die hard, the people that still type in mk5.org to bring us to this page .... we get hype and pass the hype on. Its really hard to get people interested in a game when the only thing we have to hype the game up is saying " Oh shit, did you see they just released artwork for two characters that have been confirmed for months ".

Come February MvC 3 drops, and the fighting game community is going to drop everything for it. Its going to take at least a good 2 months for most people to really figure out who their characters are going to be, who is top tier, and building up their online score / rank. Its going to be the Call of Duty of fighting games ... and Mortal Kombat is going to get lost in the shuffle if they don't start hyping the shit out of this game.

My first reaction to MvC 3 was "who cares" because I knew MK9 was coming out around the same time, but the Capcoms character reveals, their playtests at shows letting the hardcore pro player not only test the game out, but go in depth with the mechanics of the game, and giving you a sense of what you can do really sold me on this game.

Where is that with MK9 ? I'm not just talking about revealing the roster, im talking about actually getting some real information on how the game actually feels. The Mkast explaining how moves work isn't enough. The fact the MK has had no presence at any of the big fighting game tournies really makes me second guess the teams confidence in the gameplay being up to EVO standards, which means its another casual cookie cutter fighter with flashy presentation.

STEP UP YOUR GAME NRS, or MK9 is just going to be another game that sells well in the first few weeks, and then gets forgotten by everyone except the hardcore within 2 months.

Temporaryusename I gotta agree with you on this, i dont understand how people on here is excited for this lame bit of news when we clearly seen these images months ago and NRS has the audacity to call this "new" wut kind of shit is that, if your gonna give us something new, gives us something NEW, STAND BY YOUR WORD, thats called integrity.....we went weeks upon weeks without getting any mortal mondays and now they are releasing repetitive info that we've seen months ago, plse people lets be more realistic bcuz im sure that the majority of us on here have jobs and wutever we promise our customers, we have to fulfil that promise, bestbuy promises that they'll match every competitor out there, and you know wut, they stand by their word, allstate promise....well u get the pic :) so ill end this by sayin that the only way u keep your customers is by taking care of them, plus when someone takes care of u, u recommend them,

Netherrealm Studios have done an incredible job with Sektor and Cyrax!

They look close enough to their first MK3 look so that they aren't losing their roots, and different enough so that they finally feel like two very distinct characters. I especially love how cyrax is now "sleek" while Sektor is "bulky".

And i know MK has never been about realism but I was getting sick of them having these crazy huge machines come out of their chests, at least now it's a little more toned down (Cyrax' bomb + nets and sektor's missiles)

Show the complete game before release?! That has to be the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard.
Lots of secrets remain, and that's the way it should be. I don't want to spend $60+ on a game I have seen everything about previously on the internet. What's the point of that?!
I guess I just don't understand some peoples reasoning.

That isn't really unique to MK, though. That's just how arcades were marketed. The thing about arcade games is that the product and the advertisement are kind of one in the same. The target audience is arcade-goers, so marketing outside of venues is almost redundant. It's not like console games where your game is in a store next to hundreds of others and you have to set the stage, so to speak.

When people were buying mags for MK, it wasn't for information, but for codes.

You know, it's kinda like magic-eye, where if I look at Sektor's MKA alt costume for a while, then quickly look back at his current model, I suddenly really like it. And yet, when I see the model out of the blue like I did today, it looks kinda off.

My conclusion is this: to me, this model communicates "Tekunin Leader" when it should be communicating "Lin Kuei Cyber-Assassin."

If they would just give some sort of explanation, I'd be a bit more understanding. Even if the explanation was bad, at least they would tell me that they know the fans are frustrated. This marketing just makes no sense to me. I'm more excited for Third Strike HD than I am for MK2011 right now.

Exactly. People are far too spolied on the internet, being able to find out everything about the game months in advance of a game's release. NRS is simply trying to make it so there's a large chunk of the game that is a mystery, and that we find out for ourselves when we play it. I'm tired of the constant complaining as well. People act as if their life is dependant on MK news, and they have nothing else to do in life to pass the time. Fact is, we are getting 2 things a week, some awesome, some minimal, but it's something. They are holding back on purpose, so that we enjoy the game more when we actually play it and discover things for ourselves.

This game WILL sell well regardless. It left a huge impression and hype factor at e3 and PAX, where it received rave reviews from gaming sites all around. Old fans, current fans, and new fans are all excited for this game. At this point, the less NRS shows, the better. If they want that 90's feel where you didn't know half of the game's content before turning it on, they got it. Job well done. It's just a shame that the internet has spoiled so many people's attention spans and that fun feeling of not knowing all there is to know, until they can find out for themselves. It's not just MK, almost every game out there blows it's load before the game comes out and lets all info out on what's/who's in the game.

Is it wrong to want all the info? No. But to say their marketing is terrible and they are doing a horrible job is simply an opinion, not fact as some of you treat it to be. They are taking a different approach, one that will make the game all the more exciting and fun when we actually get our hands on it. I'd much rather be bored now, due to low amounts of info, than bored later because they gave out too much info and nothing is new or fresh. Not to mention, the longer you wait for soemthing and hunger for it, the better it is when you finally get it. Feeding us now and filling us full of info may be fine and dandy, but it'd feel so much better if we waited off and bathed in it all once we actually have the game.

I noticed the strat guide update too, I wouldn't get my hopes up of it coming out on April 1st though. They'll probably release it either a few days before or after the game releases. They did the same with MKvsDC.

Cyrax and Sektor look insanely awesome. I'm loving Sektor's design, it's epic.

About the whole marketing scheme, yea I'm against it as well. Just can't wait for the game to come out for this nonsense to finally be over with, I'm not going to go into detail about how much of a disgrace it is towards fans and getting hype.

We still have not seen anything about:

Kano
Baraka
Liu Kang
Shang Tsung (possibly old)
Sheeva
Stryker
Kabal
Smoke
Raiden

Perhaps they are saving the best for last? but we're also running out of time... There's still 2 full months before release. Maybe March will be a big month during PAX. We will see.
