I totally predicted that Raiden's changes would all turn out making things worse!

You predicted the most basic thing about "time travels" when is able to avoid the prime rule "whatever happened, happened"? Congrats, you won a mini-sugar...

Ha, sarcastically accusing someone of stating the obvious is funny, right? Right, guys? Especially when what they predicted wasn't obvious at all! Look at me! Look how funny I am! I'm funny, right? Are ya laughin' yet?

I'm just annoyed that someone who can barely speak English thinks they're being smart. I mean "most basic"? What the fuck are you talking about?

Name FIVE movies about time travel that end in the traveler accidentally ruining his own life or dooming the world. I fucking dare you. There's only like two mainstream ones. It's not that big a trope, most time travel stories are about saving the world or having a fun adventure of some sort. So me predicting they'd go that way IS a legit guess and not something obvious.
Especially since 90% of the board were expecting that Raiden's changes would be things that actually help him and make the world better like killing Shang and Kahn, even though that would totally make for a boring story.
People repeatedly told me they hoped or didn't expect it would be a "bad end" story, so I'm allowed to fucking gloat.

Perhaps English isn't his first language.

Good for you. You're super-awesome. You should totally be writing for this series 'cause you're so in sync with what's happening. I hope I can be you when I grow up. If I were a woman, I'd totally have your babies.

There, ego stroked yet?

Dude was a dick to me completely unprovoked. I'm not allowed to take offense at that?
And here's a novel idea: maybe, just maybe, if someone can't write legibly because English isn't their first language, they shouldn't try to be a smartass to people who can barely understand their smartassery, huh?
Whoa, everybody just chill out. There's no need to get angry and fight about stupid shit. This game is going to be awesome and I think we can all pretty much agree on that. So let's just calm down.

No. But I must finish the ones other people start.

Or if it's Chrome complaining about costume design. I am compelled to take a poke at him every time he does that. I dunno why, it just feels right.

If only he'd clumsily manhandled the entire conversation and made slightly racist inferrences, instead of getting in and out with a funny little quip about a hilariously obvious prediction! Everything would be right in the world!

not sure why it didn't dawn on me about the mid game cut scene. I totally forgot about that.

We've been told that the story mode will deal with animatics, so there was always the chance the opening video features some sort of recap or contextual set-up pre/post timeslip that includes the Raiden/Kahn clip. Do we even know that the message goes back to the period of the original tournament? Maybe MKII (nostalgia capital of MK) is the key point where things change. Plenty of room to wonder!

We do kinda know that. Ed has said it a couple times now. Also, the confirmed presence of the Shang's Throne Room stage doesn't hurt.

Of course, that doesn't tell us WHEN during MK1 Raiden's past self gets the message. It could be before the tournament starts, allowing him to, say, bring Kung Lao instead of Liu, it could be in the middle, or it could be near the final round similar to the opening of Shaolin Monks.

Which, in Shaolin Monks world, pretty much plops right into MKII, yeah.
I haven't heard/seen a lot of specific references to the first MK, but I haven't been following every iota of every interview. Is it anything concrete, or just vague references to the past?

Seems reasonable to think that MKII nostalgia is piloting this thing, like all the other recent promises to go back to when MK was super-cool. I guess for all we know, Raiden's big change is to abandon the tournament while it's still going and teleport his ass into Kahn's Arena for a direct assault.

That'd sure shake things up!

I think something like that may happen. In the previous story lines MK1-MK3 Raiden was big on not interfering with the tournament... so to expect Raiden to be proactive is a decent guess. I'm sure curious how they are going to end this game... Because as someone already said how can you really screw up much worse if the present outcome is Armageddon.

Maybe they will pull one of those Matrix style story loops, where these events have happened numerous times, and the defense mechanism for the Elder God's is that this same cycle continues. Not an ending or plot twist I would prefer however.

Or, with things looking pretty horrible, they all realise how stupid it was to mess with the past and prevent the change. Bringing us, the player, back to the "present" of the end of Armageddon and we can all just take our lumps and move forward. Maybe Raiden'll realise he's the problem and sacrifice himself for reals this time.

Thing one: English is my THIRD language. And trust me, years ago my english was bad, now nobody except you criticize my english.

Thing two: If people that makes movies doesn't know the basic rules of time traveling, well... they are "stupids". They think that time travels are sci-fi, and in that premise, there are no rules. But hey, Hollywood > Science, right?

Third three: Probably derivating of the "thing two", the "people" (not any concrete person, a global concept) are "fooled" about the time travels. And, in a person that only cares about facts, I'm highly surprise that you use bad time travel movies (in sci-fi/rules point of view) to justify you.

Time travel is something like the alchemist in "Full Metal Alchemist". You need something to pay for the exchange... and if the one that try to change the timeline doesn't pay the right thing/try to don't pay anything, the universe (specially when, in MK case, is the One Being) compensate in a bad/tragic way.

I told you that the right thing to avoid the Armageddon is killing a lot of characters, in order to avoid that Blaze/Argus & Delia creates the event. But the most funny thing is that a "tragic back to future" can means also that Raiden can't change the destiny at all.

The only sure thing is that I'm ended to discuss with you, your ego sicks me. Farewell my friend.

Nobody but me criticizes your English? Seriously? They're probably just being polite. I can read that mess, sure, but it's taking a lot of effort.

Anyway, time travel is fucking fictional, of course I'm using movies as examples. It's not possible in the real world so you can't just make up your own rules like "it works like alchemy in FMA" and then expect everyone to have heard of them like it's obvious.

There's no tragic backlash in Back to the Future, there's no tragic backlash in Terminator, there's no tragic backlash in Quantum Leap, there's no tragic backlash in Star Trek 4. I can do this all night. There are a million stories about trying to AVOID changing history or creating paradox loops, but the ONLY story I've seen that comes to mind about time travel with a dark, tragic theme about how someone WANTED to change history and ended up ruining people's lives by accident was Butterfly Effect.

So when I said that I was the first guy to predict MK9's story would take that route, I was not stating the obvious, because I really was the only guy up to that point who had guessed it, and there was absolutely no good reason to be a douchebag about it. I don't care if you think I have an ego or not, you started an argument for no good god damned reason and frankly, I probably ought to have responded with Skull Points instead of words because what you did was trolling and it ended up sending the conversation completely off-topic.
Most boring e-fight ever.

There is nothing wrong with "most basic" as a phrasal construct in BBC English. Neither in American vernacular, but it is uncharacteristically rare.

Otherwise, I agree to your post.
