Just for fun, let's see what Characters are most wanted in DLC...
Pick a "non-classic" character from MKDA, MKA, or MKD. Such as Diarou, Hotaru, Kenshi, Taven, Shujinko, etc...
It's a toss up between Kenshi and Hotaru for me but I'm going with Hotaru.

Li Mei. Many more of course, but there you go.
My first pick would be Quan Chi. He's easily my favorite male fighter. But since he's MK4... I'll choose Mavado.
If I could have another.... I'd probably give Kira another chance, so long as they gave her original moves. I always thought she was a character they could have done so much more with.

Sareena.
I'd have said Quan Chi, but I believe he'll make it anyway.

My favorite from MK:DA-MK:A would have to be Kenshi, so I would go with him. As for females, which I rarely play as, I would go with either Frost or Ashrah since both of them stick out to me as cooler than most of the male fighters.
MK:DA = Kenshi or Frost
MK:D = Hotaru or Ashrah
MK:A = No thanks

Well this is tough.
Surprisingly not Kenshi. I always felt like he was a little bland to me (go figure?).
I do, however have a top five.
1. Bo' Rai Cho - Now, hear me out. I would not be in favor of him returning with all of his bodily function-related moves, I thought that was way too cartoony for me. However, I loved the idea of a martial arts master that trained the heroes, and the idea of a fat one that practiced Zui Quan (Drunken Kung Fu) was really intriguing. Not to mention, his backstory had been written to stem back to MK1 anyway. To me, he seems like the Mortal Kombat version of Uncle Iroh from Avatar: the Last Airbender (for those of you familiar with the reference), and he kicked some of the most ass in that series ("Did I ever tell you how I got the title, 'The Dragon of the West,'?" Iroh then proceeds to take a sip of tea and breathe fire.)
2. Quan Chi - Duh. He's become one of the most important characters to the Moral Kombat universe, hands down. Not including him seems out of place.
3. Sareena - Ed Boon says he likes her, she has a unique and original backstory, and I can't even figure out who's side she's on. Her backstory extends back to MK: Mythologies, anyway. Including her makes perfect sense, from a timeline-perspective. Plus, her special moves and fatalities definitely need to be developed.
4. Tanya - I just love her backstory. She a politician's daughter, using her influence to betray everyone. Seriously, she the single least-trustworthy character in the universe. Not to mention, I always felt like she was the fifth female-ninja/assassin. Like, if she were created in UMK3, she would've just been a pallet swap of Kitana/Mileena/Jade. This was sort of confirmed when Khameleon had one of her moves in Armageddon, but I want more proof, if possible.
5. Reiko - They just started developing him! Why stop now? Remember all those "Reiko/Kahn" wars? Is Reiko Kahn? Well, they answered that question, and, in the process, started developing him. In my opinion, he seemed like one of the coolest characters in MK Armageddon (I know, that's not saying much). I really want to see more of Shao Kahn's general.

People have to think of the combo ability and potential. Certain characters simply would be very bad in this game I believe. Most characters from MK1-3 had great juggle capabilities. where as characters like Hsu Hao, Drahmin, Nitara and Frost would be absolutely terrible and would take extreme amount of effort to give a prper feel in this game.
With a little motivation, Characters like Dairou, Li Mei, Havik, Hotaru and Kenshi would be amazing.
Im not picking one, but 2.
Havik and Hotaru.

Damn, I forgot about Ashrah... I really liked her. hmm.... Hotaru and Ashrah have pushed Kenshi aside for me...
I guess I'm still a Hotaru but damn Ashrah is so tempting and such a close 2nd.

I canthink of about 10 characters I'd want from the post MK3 era... I'd put most of them ahead of a lot of the MK3 characters, in fact. But if I had to pick one:
Mavado: With his grappling hooks (which need to be on chains and not whatever the frick they were on in MK:DA), I think tha tthose would make for some AWESOME combos and some really fun special moves if they really took the time with him.

Agreed Baraka! Mavado could fit in very well in this game! Don't believe a lot of folks like him that much though... so if they pick someone from this era, it'll probably not Mavado.
For myself, I always had a weak spot for Fujin. Since his powers are unique in MK. With quite some development time left, they could make him an awesome character! But maybe that's just me.

Right there. I'd pick Tanya for sure.
Not to mention it gives Jade a story and a role in the game. Head general in the Edenian army vs. top traitor in Edenian history.

I think over-all Kenshi was the best character to come out of the Deadly Alliance/Deception-era. There were a couple of characters that were cool and could be developed further, like Frost, Kobra, Kira, and Li Mei.
I thought Havik and Hotaru were cool, but I don't know if they could be worked in the game as easily as the others I listed.
I know MK4 wasn't in the title, but I always thought that Fujin had potential to be developed and expanded on, but like with many post-MK2 characters he was pretty much ignored. Outside Quan Chi, Fujin was the only MK4 character that had potential I thought.
I don't think we ever need another "ninja" character, be it male or female, again in a Mortal Kombat. I also think they should just limit the focus on Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Reptile, and Kitana, Mileena, and Jade. Anything after that becomes too much, especially within a single game.
Still if I had to pick one, I'd go with Kenshi. He's just a bad ass (a blind swordsman? Heck yeah!) and he has a very cool move set. Plus he was already around during the events of MK 1, 2, and 3 so he would be easy to fit into the story.
