Ed Boon confirmed in multiple interviews that they are aiming for +- 26 characters. Now if you take all the characters from MK1 to MK trilogy, minus Goro, Kintaro, Motaro and Shao Kahn, it is exactly 26.
If this happens I personally think it will be awesome. I never liked playing with boss characters because in my opinion that sort of takes the nostalgia of climbing the arcade "ladder" and just doesnt feel right.
So my question is this: Would you rather have those four boss characters playable and exclude say... Rain, Ermac, Noob Saibot and Jade or vice versa?

Boon stated in the most recent interview that there isn't a final number yet on the roster, so I'm guessing we're looking more at more than 26.
I'm also gradually getting the feeling that we're going to be seeing characters throughout the whole series. If I were a betting man, I'd gamble on Quan Chi and Kenshi.
If 26 is indeed the final number, I'm pretty sure Sheeva is going to get stiffed.

I also agree. And yes, from post MK3 games Quan Chi and Kenshi are the only ones that truly stand out.
But my question is if you would prefer having all the MK1-MK3 characters in the game, or having some of them dropped for playable bosses? Lets say Sheeva,Stryker,Rain and Ermac for example for Goro,Kintaro,Shao-Kahn and Motaro?

While not deemed as final, It looks as if Rain will not be playable. He does, however, make a cameo appearance in the background of one of the arenas.
I can't say that it pleases me, seeing as Rain is my favorite character.
Hopefully, they at least include Ermac.

Technically neither. I'd rather have the best of the first three games with later characters like Li Mei and Bo Rai Cho mixed in. I don't wish to see any playable bosses, especially with the new fast-paced gameplay. If bosses are in the game, they need to be horrifically broken. I wanna be able to say to myself, "Oh fuck, now I have to fight [insert boss]"

I'd like quan chi back but in his original outfit with all the spikes, as far as playing with bosses I'd rather people like motaro aren't playable but maybe shao kahn and Goro could be after you finish the game.

I agree. Especially if we get a crappy Motaro like in Armageddon.
I'd rather they'd be secret like tey where in MK3 when you could only play them in certain areas and such.
i really hope that the bosses are not playable. It makes the game feel less epic. The game didnt feel "complete" when i beat mk4 and mkda, bekuz the bosses of those 2 games were just regular characters that were on the roster.
Since this game will be covering a number of years. I hope that we climb the mk1 ladder, fight goro and old man shang. This will then unlock the mk2 ladder, which also unlocks some mk2 characters. We climb that ladder, fight Kintaro, young shang and Kahn. Then the mk3 ladder is unlocked and outworld merges with Earth. Climb it and fight a REAL motaro and kahn again. But never having these bosses playable. that would be sick

I like the sound of all that but there has to be twists. It can't just play out like we're playing MK 1-3 but with new graphics. The way the story is it's going to be much more complicated than linear.

Lol! I havent laughed liek that in a while. Sweet Edit. I do have ONE thing to add though.
I would also welcome the appearance of Shujinko. The more I think of him, the more I like him lately. There can be a really interesting part of Story mode if he is shown. I dont know about playable though, everybodys special moves along with costom kombos might push reality into overdrive.

Hey here's a crazy idea...what if Shujinko's armageddon ending came true and he becomes evil. He becomes the new bad guy and Raiden goes back in time to stop his quest...just a thought

Well...youngER. Only about 15 years younger, though.
Also, it's really hard to say where Shujinko would be and what he'd be doing at this point in the timeline because things got REALLY messed up in the end of MKD Konquest.
You earn yourself and Kenshi an invitation to MK1 but you miss the boat because Damashi sends you to the Netherealm...but as soon as you're in the Netherealm, you're helping Scorpion track Quan Chi and Drahmin and Moloch are helping him, meaning it's after MK4 all of a sudden!
Then you meet Raiden and he asks for your help with the Deadly Alliance, but then Hotaru would arrest you and you're in jail so long your character model ages again...but once you got out of prison, you'd still only be just starting the events of Deception, like getting the very last Kamidogu. DA and Deception happened back to back, there's no time gap in between for that prison scene to be possible!
What the hell, right?

I see your point, Deception really messed up some parts of the game's plot. I just had a silly thought about Shujinko becoming the new bad guy/possible boss that's all.

If Kahn is not finally playable as a balanced character in this MK game I'll riot. Make Kahn boss, but make the boss Kahn outrageously powerful compared to regular Kahn

Shang Tsung in MK1 was a boss who copied everyone's moves, Shinnok in MK4 copied everyones moves, so Shujinko does have potential if they give him more copied moves, but I hope they don't as it would be Shinnok all over again where nearly everyone thought he was a rubbish boss and was too small and seemed like a normal character.

I'm thinking Stryker gets dropped along with Sheeva if anyone from MK1-3 isn't there. I'd like to see the boss characters playable, but only after finishing the game or unlocking them. And I think there should be filters for online play so boss characters (if playable) aren't spammed online.
If I had to pick someone to go though....I hope we didn't have 2 separate versions of Sub-Zero or Smoke.

Kahn wins at the end of Armageddon. Raiden goes back in time with that knowledge. That's the set up for this new game.
My bet would be that the most popular characters of the series almost 19 years will be present. So we could probably expect Smoke, Kabal, Kenshi, Noob Saibot, Ermac, etc. I definitely think that the number of characters from the newer games will be smaller though.

They could just make something up along the lines of, time moves differently through the different realms. Some realms there is no time, some are faster/slower, ect. ect. The story started getting out of control the last few games, so it's anyone's guess as to what will happen in this new timeline.
