I hope Rain has a real name like the other ninjas. Maybe he was once a prince and decides to remain hidden as Rain.

Like the other ninjas, they have real names:
- Scorpion: Hanzo Hasashi
- Sub-Zero/Tundra: Kuai Liang
- Noob Saibot/Sub-Zero: Bi-Han
- Ermac: Controlled later by King Jerrod
- Smoke: Tomas Vrbada

Ermac is Ermac's real name. He is a creation and was named by his master, Shao Kahn. That King Jerrod is one of his souls, and the most dominant one, doesn't mean that he is King Jerrod or ever was.

Also, the rest of the characters you mentioned are humans of Earthrealm. Rain is Edenian, like Jade and Kitana. And their real names are Jade and Kitana, so I believe Rain is his real name as well.

And by the way, Rain is an actual name too. Rare, but real.

Indeed. I just think back to the reveal of his "brother" Noob and think happy thoughts.
(I see them as "brothers" of a sort because they both made their playable debut in MKT, and they were the default selections for P1 and P2 in that game. They are, of course, unrelated, and have never even met so far as we know.)

But that connection, along with the quality of the other DLC characters, leads me to cautious optimism that my dreams of oldschool Rain's return might not be too unreasonable.

I'm betting the trailer will leave *many* jaws dropped.

I'm going to predict that he is capable of the longest, but hardest combo of any character to date. I feel like that's going to be his playstyle, on a basic level. WE... SHALL... SEE!!!

Also, the name Rain can work for both boys and girls. ^^
