The stream yesterday using the newest patch. the spin on BLOCK does not push kung lao backwards anymore and he cannot do 2 spins in a row similiar to how cyrax cannot throw 2 nets in a row.
The bastard finally got nerfed. Now people will think twice about spamming the whirlspin knowing that it can be massively punished by any character now.
Hopefully this stops the KL bandwagon.

Sounds awesome!
Kung Lao was indeed overpowered and unbalanced, people kept spamming the same shit over and over again with him, just to get win-points. It sucks the fun out of the game when people spam, no matter what game it might be. One of the reasons I don't like playing SSF4 online anymore is because there are so many Ryu/Ken/Sagat spammers.
Those who play Kung Lao without spamming sholdn't have much of a problem with this nerf. You should be good enough players to work around it.

I'm a Kung Lao main. This doesn't really affect my game. I only use the spin as a wake-up to people who try to rush me on the ground, and I use it in mid-combo. If I land it, it's not because I was spamming it. I'm glad for this nerf so now people can stop blaming my wins on an "overpowered character".

You should be using it whenever you see someone jumping at you though...
And actually, they didn't "FINALLY" nerf Kung Lao, they've been nerfing him with every patch. I even feel sorry for all the Kung Lao players and the constant adaptations they have to go through. No wonder some players have been dropping him, especially the ones that play other fighters as well.

Kung Lao is my main. And I'm getting sick of people complaing about his spamming. He's not the only character to spam. The biggest spammers are noob, kano, and smoke.

It's not Kung Lao, it's the people using him like that, for spamming. And because he is easy to spam with, he gets nerfed to prevent the spammers to use him for spamming.

@ Jaded-Raven I don't care that he's being nerfed. But people act like hes ruining the game just by himself. Any character can be spammed with.

The spin is good anti-air, but it should be punishable when you miss with it.
In fact I was playing Baraka the other day and his spin is easily punishable with a full 34% damage combo if blocked and you can kick him out of it with a low poke, punch or trip, now that's a reasonable spin and considering the attacks are the same, you'd think both spins would have similar advantages and disadvantages( I'm just talking I'm not particularly directing this at you lol).
He's still top tier, it's not like they nerfed to where he plays similar to an underused character, he still plays the exact same, his moves are just more unsafe and I for one am delighted that a more level playing field is being established, I want to see characters like Baraka and Quan Chi showing up in future tournaments(not to mention Sheeva and Stryker), if the scales are heavily stacked in 5-6 character's favor, tournaments will remain the same couple characters, but all these patches have been leading us to increased diversity and I think that's a good thing.

They should focus more on buffing the low tier to make them more viable, instead of nerfing everything.

This is good news to me
So happy i mean i main Mileena and its only fair that if she can be punished for missing then so should everybody else, I hope the also fix raidens charge attack so he spins closer to the body cause some people cant puish him with an uppercut. And if your a KL player complaining about it shut the fuck up if people can own with mileena and she can be easily punished then others can too with KL choose the right time to spin.

An unsafe Spin is a good thing, but what is even greater is that the Ground Hat (DB+2) has more recovery time.
This is exactly what I wanted.
I am currently unable to punish the low hat by an uppercut.
So many players use it during combos like 2, 4, DB+2. That's safe and unfair.
Now that he is less good, I will start to use him.

Wait, do you already have the latest patch? I'm pretty sure you couldn't beat his spin with any normals (including pokes) before.
OMG, if you can poke him out of it, then Kitana who's already 6-4 against Kung Lao is gonna have a blast against him. Kitana's d+1 is one of her essentials and if it beats the spin now, lol, I'm gonna love it!

LOL, it's my fault. I got a bit too excited about Kung Lao's nerfs
Does Baraka's spin get beaten by stomp moves?

I think "buffs only" is a good rule of thumb for SSF4, but not for the Kung Lao situation. It really comes down to why the character is S-Tier.
For example, Vanilla Sagat had too much stamina. In that case, it makes sense to only give buffs. Phoenix, on the other hand, has touch of death combos. Buffing the other characters will essentially do nothing; you simply have to out-guess the bitch in an incredibly unintuitive game of rock scissors paper.
And that's why buffing isn't going to solve Kung Lao's balance issue: stamina and damage aren't what make him dangerous. He simply has too many damn options. He has the best anti-air, some of the best high-low mix-ups, and a teleport with three modes of attack. The previous nerfs only made his opportunities less damaging, but when he has more opportunities then every character on the roster, it doesn't make that much of a difference.
His spin being more punishable doesn't go that far either. A smart Kung player isn't going to change his game over that. They're not balancing the character, they're balancing the scrubs.

lol good stuff and no Baraka's spin beats Quan Chi's stomp clean, as well as Kintaro's, so I'm assuming that applies for Sheeva too.

Its not the 'spam', it's that he has little to no weaknesses and the spin is extremely safe and has ridiculous priority. High and low hats aren't that big of a deal.
