Well that was a pointless thread I made. It's just Boon talking out his ass. I doubt he's going to screw with characters too much, he said more along the lines certain events might happen with different characters. Now is Curtis Stryker going to participate in MKI and win the tournament? Hell yes. But no seriously, I doubt it's going to be so radical that you end up seeing Shao Kahn sing about his seeing the light or crap like that. It's a retelling. I know some people liked the mortal kombat storyline, I sure did as a kid, but let's be honest:it's a fighting game storyline.
Half the endings to each game involved characters going for the generic blow up the universe and conquer it some vaguely bland way. Shang Tsung kills the universe, Tanya emerges as Overlord of the Universe, Shokan rule Outworld forever, that's not even patheticly cliched. That's just not trying. MKD had a decent setup, but got derailed by the sudden shift into ENDGAME. Good vs evil battle royale, that shit was so weak.
I'm not asking for some morally complex story about do you sacrifice the world for love or the greater good of altruistic heroism. It'd be nice to see a coherent storyline where characters do die, they do have badass moments, and otherwise has a decent yarn of dude killings each other as either good, bad, or evil.
I mean take for example in the early games for random characters. Nightwolf, wtf was up with him? Animalistic shaman while a cool concept, his story was "I saved teh world through the power of animal communing and hatcheting Shao Kahn" Not the best analysis I know. Even someone like Sheeva, who randomly was Sindel's bodyguard and then attempted an assassination attempt on Kahn for screwing over her people. See, that's a decent storyline. It's not about saving the world or conquering the world, it's a personal mission. I can't hit everyone, and yes I know I'm generalizing to a degree(Scorpion's revenge and his personal grudge with the Sub Zero brothers, Kano and Sonya's rivalry, the little, subtle things.)
It's hard to say. There are alot of elements in MK that were/are cool, but alot of of it was also not convoluted, just bland and generic. You could combine Tsung, Kahn, Chi, hell, even Shinnok into one character due to their otherwise similiar goals/mentality. I wanna rule the world and or enslave/kill everything.
It'd be interesting to see them expand upon, not radically change, the lesser characters and maybe give different direction to some of the major characters as well. No Jax wearing an afro and a pimp suit, no Mileena mistress of the metal thong, or Baraka the babysitter. Subtle touches and such.
I just pray that Kahn is more a sub boss then the end game boss. I honestly would rather have Mokap as the final boss then general hammer.
"You suck" "You cannot defeat me" Kahn was cool as a boss the first two times, but when he pretty much is the ganondorf of a plot unrelated to him or a rehash in some instances, I really do want to spam him with Stryker's grenades or drop a nuke on his juiced, horny head.
Sounds dumb, but if it is going for a darker theme in mk, elements that get downplayed or could be added. Edenia always seemed a little too perfect for my liking. Sure, Sindel, Jade, Kitana, Jerrod(we can finally have him as a character!) are the defenders of beauty world, but why not give some uncanny valley/little creepiness to it. Maybe it's more like order realm where freaks like Mileena or Baraka "Sweetooth" are killed on sight for not conforming to the image of proud Edenia. Not where Hotaru kills you for jaywalking, but some wariness of the "good guys" because honestly, the fatalities of some of our heroes are downright awesome, but also pretty psychotic when you apply a little too much thinking to it.
