I actually prefer what NRS did with this Mortal Kombat rather than in the past 3D MK's. The individual fighting styles should only be inspired from real-life martial arts instead of slapping on a fighting style to each character like they did in the past games. It's alot more creative and fitting this way, in my opinion.

Mortal Kombat is not Virtua Fighter or Tekken. And hopefully, it never will be.

It doesn't have to be. The martial arts styles can be used in the MK games but not be limitation factors for the characters' fighting styles. I actually think that having fairly strong influences from martial arts styles would make their fighting styles better, because you have something solid to derive the moves from.
