I don't get it. The backgrounds are beautiful. But the characters look absolutely horrible. Nightwolf actually looked better in MKD, 6 years ago. Cage looks like a minor update of MK4 Cage, Reptile looks like a ill MKA Chameleon.

They all look so plastic and out of proportion.

They look fine to me. Maybe not fantastic, but acceptable

I don't think they look that bad. I have played MK vs DC today and if I’m comparing the two this new MK looks already way better. The characters also fit really well in the environment.

Yeah, I have to more or less agree with you. It's 2010, and I feel like the Mortal Kombat games are behind in terms of graphics. Granted, graphics aren't the most important part of a game, but it is nice to have great visuals. I think the main problems stem from art style to rendering the models. When you have that plus choppy gameplay, it makes things rather ugly.

Look at the gamespot still of Sektor taken from the trailer. You can literally see scratches on his armor in the lighting.

This game looks amazing. By 2011 with the rest of the polishing, gonna be a powerhouse. Even if not, this is great for me.

The backgrounds are probably some of the best I've ever seen in any fighting game, so I don't get the lack of attention paid to the character models. I'm hopeful they can do something about it, but the series in 3D graphics has never been very impressive character model wise so that thought is always in the back of my mind unfortunately.

*sigh*

The game's still in development. What people are seeing is not the final version of the game, and it's being treated like it's coming out tomorrow. The first Shaolin Monks images looked horrendously blocky, but that wasn't the case in the final release.

Settle down. There's months to go before it's out.

This.

The art side of the designs are probably final, but they look good to me. Both refined and definitive, which is the approach every fighting game should take to their characters.

Well, maybe Reptile could have better chest clothing. I'll say again, he looks like he could be one of the 8 bosses in a Mega Man game (read: he looks good).

Does anyone else think it's cool that boon edited the teaser himself? Doesn't sound like "supervisor" work to me. Seems like a sign the guy loves his work.

I just watched the trailer again.

THe only characters I could see people having a problem with are reptile and Johny Cage. And thats just because of the use of colour. Sektor, Mileena and Kung Lao are absolutely vibrant with the lighting, you can almost see a sort of reflection coming off of him.

Johny needs to have a bit and i mean just a BIT darker tone to his skin, and his hair and glasses need to be re-done. Reptile looks great but just not coloured to stand out. Hes kind of a Dull green which he should be IMO.

Trust me, they will get much better. and if not, its still acceptable for the most part as it is. weve only seen one minute and 20 seconds of this game so far. Wait till we get all the HD E3 footage and then lets go from there.

I also thought Rep's skin color was strange. It looks milk white with sort of a green tint. More resembles the bottom side of a snake than the typical lizard, etc.

I'll agree that Cage's skin tone needs to be darker, but I'll add that the tattoo needs to be more distinctive. It's a bit bland as it stands; they either need to ink it in more, alternate the color, or add graphics to it to make it stand out (ex: roses wrapped around the edges of the script, something like that).

The trailer footage itself was kinda desaturated and filmy/fuzzy looking to me. I think that's a lot of the problem. The game itself will be high def with a lot of very fine detail on the textures and such just like MK vs DCU was, I'm certain, but the video was not high def.

Not to mention there's 9 months left, and the last thing the game developers focus on is polishing up graphics etc. Rarely is the first video ever as good as the final product. They also most likely filmed this months ago as Boon said himself on Twitter when he was actually piecing it together.

I wouldn't be worried too much about the graphics. They will get there as time goes on. It's the general designs we should be discussing. Part of me was hoping for a darker Mortal Kombat, with a lot of the colour drained -- but I'm enjoying what we've got so far. Each of the characters has a classic feel to them. We're getting a pretty unique roster of returning characters, too. And, it seems like Outworld is the setting, which is where the best MK games seem to take place (although that may just be coincidence).

Mileena looks absolutely incredible. Sexy and dangerous -- perfect for her. Her costume almost seems to glow, too. Sektor could have used a little refining, but I guess they wanted to keep it classic with him. Reptile has been done brilliantly (he's a lot darker). Nightwolf could probably look more like a man who has literally been to hell and back, but give it time.

Graphics looks fine. Character models could be a bit sharper, but it's still on par with other fighters.

I'm more concerned with the animations....i hope those turn out okay. And please, more diversity in character models would be nice. Why do the majority of mk fighters have to be the same body type/height? It's kinda irritating. I want more bigger characters (think shoa kahn) and other fighters that are significantly skinnier.

Beyond the models, the animations are what have me the most troubled. Every animation seems to be reused. From the obvious freeze animation from Sub-Zero to the air punch done by Sektor in a combo shown in the trailer. All of that stuff is from last generation. I don't think it's being overly whiny to ask for new animations and models at least once every other game.

The Stages look fantastic but I must say that the actual fighters dont look that great, I mean they dont look bad but they still need work. However lets not forget that this game is still a work in progress. I don't think you guys should be worried about the graphics because im certain that the final product will be spectacular smile

You guys remember what MKD looked like in that very first video we saw where noob saibot was still on his own?
It looked awful! But by the time the game came out it looked brilliant (for its time).

So even tho this MK isnt looking its best I'm not worrying as there is aaaaages before it comes out and plenty of time to polish it up.

But what I really wanted was something more along the lines of "Street Fighter 4."

MK vs DC had pretty awesome graphics for an MK game. It looked great! So i'm imaging this game to look on par or even better than that one.

True. After the early pics, the creators finally realized that goggles just don't work for Noob.
Edit: Come on, you guys have to remember the goggles.

For all we know the trailer could just be abit older than we think, they may be just being safe as they're 'new graphics engine' might have a few glitches that they werent able to polish in time for e3. but i will admit i almost had a heart attack when i saw shao kahn and raiden haha i can only hope it gets that good looking, maybe endings or story movies
