Well I have seen a lot of discussions about his design and a lot of negative responses to it.

Personally I hated it at first but it has grown on me... Still it isn't his best design... A lot of people wanted a human like Reptile back or at least the awesome MK4 design.

So what do you think. Will they change it and how will they explain it story wise if for example he becomes more human? Maybe he even will talk this time around...

BTW
I still hope they won't fuck him up story wise as in MK 2011 where he was a punching bag, like all villians, for everyone and even for Stryker...

I already hated the beginning where the once FIRST HIDDEN character of MK1 started the tournament in the new time line with a lose against Cage.

Reptile's look/design is one of those things I just can't get past MK9.

For being "the" game that was all about bring back MK to life, the job they did in the costume design department is beyond atrocious, disappointing, uninspired, uncreative, and absolutely boring. Sure, this does NOT apply to all the character designs (there are some super highlights such as Ermac's, Sonya's alternate, Liu Kang's, Kenshis', etc), but, I feel like it applies to most of the characters in the game, Reptile Included.

All that being said, I hope they focus on his absolute best 2 designs: the ever so glorious Shaolin Monks costume and the freaking scary cool MK4 design.

MK9 will remain as one of his worst. The costume itself is fine, but that mask is just atrocious.

Yeah i agree fully with you... Even if I like his hidden human alternate from SM better.

MK4 Reptile was the best by far.. BTW I searching for a long time for a HQ pic of the booklet Repitle you posted

I loathe his MK4 outfit. I liked his MK9 outfit way better. A redesign is a given, seeing as how in almost every MK game people get new costumes.

Reptile's costumes are fine to me. But his MK4 look just was too bizzare for me. Purple pants really? I had an easier time accepting his MKDA look.

What is wrong with purpe pants... Purple and green are color you can mix well together.

I would like it if his Shaolin Monk appearance and MK4 appearance made a baby together. Those two were my favorite looks for him.

As long as it avoids his Deadly Alliance look, I'll accept it. Even if his mask made him look like a penguin, which it kinda did during his MK2011, I didn't mind it. I just thought it was funny looking.

Although I did like his MK4 alternate

I have absolutely no problems with any reptile costumes, but the most striking ones were the SM look and the MK4 look. How about this for the next one?

I loved MK:DA's version of Reptile. I mean, for god's sake, he IS a Reptile. Why was it so shocking that his body began to go more Reptilian? I found the explanation palatable too, it's not like someone just went "err gurr I'm wizrd nd ur now Bowzr 4m Mario!", he regressed into something more primitive due to his dementia. They should have kept going in that direction until he became completely bestial, it would make a far more interesting story than "relatively humanoid-reptile who's the punchbag".

I actually thought his MK:DA primary was better than his Shaolin Monks outfit, it was the only outfit I'd pick for him in Armageddon :/

Explain to me the purpose of the steel diaper.

Or why he only had three fingers. It couldn't have been part of his de-volution because MKDA Reptile has five.

Definitely his best costume.

His more recent looks are far too animalistic, and makes him appear more like a wild pet than a ruthless warrior who's killed millions.

NRS.

Anyway, my problem with Reptile is less about what he has on and more about how humany he is. MKDA Reptile is my favorite. As someone said he looks like a Reptile and by that point and in the new timeline there's really no point for him to be undercover/spying on anyone so I say keep him scaly.

As far as attire goes again I go with MKDA. People need to stop acting like the design from that game was such a departure from what the ninja characters usually wear. The only real difference is Reptile's tail. You could put a human Reptile in that outfit and add shoes and people would love it.

In MK2011 his primary and alt are pretty cool. The alt is a little closer to what people except from him I think but in both looks the hood that serves no purpose has to go. What was the design concept for that? "Oh cover his head because that's what we've always done". Also what is his mask hanging on to?

I say go with a MKDA/MK4 mix. Ditch the hood and the mask like in MK4 but put him in something like he worse in MKDA.

Also is Reptile a snake or what? In MK4 and MK2011 he looks a little snakey.

Oh and for the love of God no MKSM Reptile. I hate those bandages with a passion.

I'm a fan of human looking-ninja Reptile.
What's the purpose of having a Crocodile-Man?
Killer-Croc from Batman, Lizard man from Soul Calibur, etc.
There are too many of them.
In the Kollector's edition artbook of MK (201) you can see an un-used human design for him.
That was the best Reptile I've ever seen.
Human and yet brutal and savage.

Good questioning, lastfighter89, but one could come up with circa twice as many counterarguments for why we should prefer the lizard form instead. First of all, SoulCalibur was created significantly after Mortal Kombat thus NeRdS have every right to give their raptor a tail and Killer Croc is not a fighting game character... yet. There's also the Lizard in Spider-Man but then again the fictive world is wide. People connect the human costume to more characters than the lizard version while playing Mortal Kombat.
Nonetheless, I also enjoy Human Reptile and me thinks it should go along with the lizard form as an alternate: in case NeRdS will ruin the lizard costume (see: "Birdman") the human costume would work as a backup and save the situation for the Reps fans. It also has demand.
However, I think the biggest fail in Reptile's looks was his fighting stance; it gave him a beastly, lowly essence and a grunt-like feeling – it doesn't show the player that he's an assassin nor that he'd carry any pride.
I also got the art book of Mortal Kombat 9 and – with my crappy cell phone camera – I just took a picture of the designs for the topic visitors' pleasure. It's not accurate but you'll get the overview. They indeed had some interesting designs that could perhaps be utilized in future games. Here:

The "Lin Kuei-ish" look in your photo is EXACTLY the attire i was talking about.

i hope reptile look changes again. reptile is my favorite mk character. i think his mk 2011 version was his best yet. followed by his mk4 attire, then his mkda alternate.

i hated his mka/shaolin monks attire. wrapping his face up with bandages just felt like a quick way to finish off his appearance.

But why would you want Reptile to look like he's similar to a Lin Kuei? He's not even from Earthrealm, to dress anything like a clan of secretive ninjas would be far beyond coincidental.

Look, each ninja character has a gimmick.

Scorpion, he's Hellspawn (all of his attire and armour from MK4 onwards has gone with the Hell Motif, bar his Deception Primary).

Ermac, he's the Mystic (again, since his re-introduction in Deception he's been Arabian styled sorcerer with gemstones and flowing fabrics on his outfit)

Noob, he's got the Shadow style going for him (everything from leather outfits, to hooded ninja suits, he's taken hints of S&M and hints of Gothic and ran with it)

Rain, he's got the Royalty vibe. His armour in the last two games he's appeared in all have strong visual references to the fact he's of Royal lineage with the golden outlines, strong purples and decorative tunics)

For Sub-Zero and Smoke, both had outfits that contrasted in style in MK9 (not even looking anything remotely like Sektor and Cyrax's human clothes), so the only logical answer I can think of to that is that warriors of their respective ranks are to wear outfits of the same motif depending on their mission. In this case, Smoke and Sub-Zero wore armoured ninja costumes in their adventures in Outworld, whilst Cyrax and Sektor went with more traditional, lighter uniforms when they competed in Shang Tsung's tournament. Regardless, they're uniform is supposedly well known, as Kitana recognised Smoke was from the Lin Kuei upon first glance.

With Reptile, he's a god damn Reptile. His attacks all go around the Lizard motif (spitting acidic venom, sliding across floors, using slime, his tongue and invisability to destroy his foes) and his name was given due to the fact he had a green outfit. It makes sense for him to dress like he's not human, because he's not!

This "hate Reptile when he's not in human form" brigade tires me. I've been a Reptile fan since he first appeared in the Pit many moons ago, and to be honest, no matter what costume he wears I'll like the character (though MK9 done nothing to help that out either).

If anything, I'd like him more if he did become more primitive and feral, I'd love to see a heartbroken, deranged and psychotic Reptile completely lose his mind and become a threat to the very people who stepped on him for years. He was finally starting to become that in Deadly Alliance, which was why I loved the change in appearance, it reflected how abused and neglected he was over the years that he'd ultimately lose what little sanity he had left in him and regressed into something more primitive. It said a lot more about his character than his human appearances ever have.

I will agree, I don't want Reptile to dress back into his human costume anymore. What he looked like in MK4, Shaolin Monks, and 2011 is as human as I'll appreciate.

I will just never come to agree with anyone that wants his Deadly Alliance look back. I just despised that costume as much as Sub-Zero's alternate in Deception.

That goddamn ponytail...

I understood why he looked like that, but it just looked really stupid the way they made him look. That tail of his annoyed me as much as a single piece of my blonde hair tickling my skin and I can't find where it's at to move it off me.

That really drives me nuts, despite that I love to be tickled...

I'm not sure if anyone else had this strike them with his Deadly Alliance appearance, but I thought he looked more of a dinosaur than a lizard. He didn't read reptile to me, he felt like Midway (back in the day) decided that they're going to resurrect Primal Rage for a game and create something from that and put it in Deadly Alliance, give Reptile a reason why he looks like that and try to make it seem really, really awesome...

And of course, we all realize that he becomes a dragon-like emperor that's too powerful for a god and two sorcerers to kill.

When he returns, I hope that they leave him be, just change the clothes. There's no need to add anything else to him, such as a tail. He's fine the way he is, like I said, just a change of clothes. If they were going to take something from the additional costumes in the book, just take the costumes, not the human-like designs.

Well firstly, dinosaurs are reptiles.

Second, his race literally evolved from the dinosaurs. They're not even originally from Zaterra, they're from Earth. They moved to Zaterra thousands of years ago to escape the war between Raiden and Shinnok.

That's kinda why the species is called either "Raptors" or "Saurians".

So yeah, he's supposed to look more dinosaur-like if he's devolving.

Want to know what's funny? Is that I know all this stuff... For years actually. And what's even funnier is that people claim that his Deadly Alliance appearance looks more like a lizard than a dinosaur, while I see it the other way around, that's pretty much the entire point of that part of my post. Thought you should know.

What's the funniest part about this is that I had a feeling you were going to point out the same exact part in my post whenever you came back to this thread to chat a bit more, and give me a goddamn lecture about something that I already know. Because, you know, it's not like I had an interest in dinosaurs at one point of my life and that I have a friend who's into Paleontology, because it's obvious that if someone says something that doesn't seem "intelligent" enough to you, ya gotta point it out and lecture them until they get the picture. Yeap, still at it.
