Why did Sonya and Johnny survive? Cause they're fucking badasses, that's why.

@QueenSindel(TheBitch):
Awww, I'm sorry you feel that way. But, I am at least extremely happy that you found your main favorite, Sindel, acceptable. I'm also happy you liked Jade (which is another of your faves, right?).
They were both great, but, Sindel in particular was shocking. Not that I didn't know she was a badass already, however, I was surprised with how perfectly they nailed her this time around: from voice acting to hair powers, Sindel will definitely stay in my top 3 favorites ever.
Quoted for being the absolute truth.
And Raiden.
I expect the fallen heroes to return as mindless Zombies and Ermac to free them (like the events that took place at the end of MKD).
I also expect many great classics and new characters to return: from Fujin to Tanya to Nitara to Mavado to Ashrah to Havik. MK4, MKDA and MKD characters.

Well, Ermac COULD become a good guy. Remember Ermac's ladder ending? Once he killed Shao Kahn, Ermac regained control but slowly lost control of the souls within him, which then turned him into King Jerrod.
Well, Shao Kahn is currently dead, so the possibilities are:
a) Ermac awakens with a conscience, notices Shinnok's goal to defeat Outworld, and, as a means to an end, revives the heroes to fight Shinnok/turn the tables.
b) Ermac awakens as King Jerrod and notices Shinnok. He also discovers that Quan Chi has the soul of Sindel (his wife), Kitana (his daughter) and Jade. Plus the possibility that Tanya is standing beside Shinnok instead of defending Edenia.
c) Ermac regains control and allies Kenshi. He trains Kenshi until the events of Shinnok. Kenshi, want to defend both realms, rushes to defeat Shinnok, and Ermac, having no interest either way of what happens, assists his student..
It could be a combination of these, but Ermac is perfect capable of becoming a hero.
I don't know if Deception will happen again, and Liu Kang's soul convinces Ermac to help, but the way I see it, Liu Kang should be amongst Quan Chi's army. Would make a great addition, especially if it bolsters Liu Kang's bitter anger over Raiden's misdeeds.

I could see them giving Ermac his MKD story a little earlier given what happened this game, particularly with the revelation of his body containing the soul of King Jerrod. That, and it's Mortal Kombat. No one stays dead in Mortal Kombat. Nobody.

I'm actually kind of disappointed in the Sindel rape-fest. It seemed like a very cheap way to kill off a lot of characters in a short amount of time.
Still not sure what I think about the story's ending... felt that it was decent up until that point. I hate the idea of all the characters being killed off.

Agreed 100%. The Sindel fight was way to one sided and a very cheap way to kill a lot of great characters. I would have rather seen Sektor, Cyrax, Reptile, and Baraka join in to do some killing both ways. It would have not only been more epic but would help those characters look better, seeing as how they were just around to get their asses kicked.
I also hate how they all died. Seriously? That sucked real bad. But seeing as how Boon said a long time ago that every MK will have Scorpion and Sub-Zero, and seeing what happened to him, in addition to the "no one really dies in MK" I assume that these characters will come back. But still it leaves an uneasy feeling I'm gonna have until the next MK.
Also, can someone explain exactly how things unfolded the way they did. I'm referring to Raiden changing things, that being saving Smoke and encouraging Kung Lao, what else did he change that caused this royal killing of the cast? I mean did a human Sub-Zero and living Kung Lao stop Sindel from killing everyone else before? I still dont get how the hell sindel just went in and killed almost everybody, even raiden was like "damn! did they really suck that bad" that should have been a very easy fight for them! I coulda understand if all the bad guys kinda showed up, but really just sindel?
WEAK in my opinion
Sindel was enhanced by Shang Tsung's and his consumed souls collective power.
An explanation perhaps:
Even if they did want to give each hero a genuine sendoff, they had to cut corners to fit the game as economically viable as possible. Story is secondary, so they opted for those characters to go out in a massive brawl. Well, more of a one sided slaughter, but still better than nothing, as this gave a pretty decent weightstone to Raiden.
This might be a good idea to make Fujin more prominent, essentially Sonya is the one + Cage who hasn't lost hope in Raiden. And keep in mind, RAIDEN DID OFFER THEIR SOULS AS A BARGAIN TO TROLL CHI. This is undebated proof of how fucked up Raiden had to be to make the amoral choice akin to his MKD ressurection (well, he did battle with Shang while they were in transition towards their rebirths and got tainted, but here he has NO EXCUSE).
Short story: RAIDEN TOOK the SHORTER, EASIER and seemingly ONLY WAY out. That, and he is a fucking idiot for not being in the know on the rules of Mortal Kombat. A MERE TECHNICALITY offed Kahn. And no dipshit, Invasion and the merger of realms does not mean the same thing.

For everyone disappointed in the Sindel onslaught don't forget that Kahn infused Sindel with Shang right before that scene. It was somewhat loosely thrown together but it made enough sense to me to go with it. A resurrected Queen merged with thousands of souls = rapefest.

I'm not seeing the Forces of Good die.
Ermac is joining the good guys and I'd like it. Besides, some goods warriors like Sub-Zero (as scarred human), Smoke & Jade can be brought back.
Kung Lao can be reincarnated.
As for Nightwolf, Kitana, Jax & Sindel at least they'll be under Shinnok's control for a while.
Reptile, he has his free will and gets a main role.
Liu Kang goes rogue and Kai becomes the champion. For Liu, I'd like to see him forgive Raiden in the end for being angry at him. Maybe this time he'll live a life with Kitana (once she's free) after Shinnok's defeat.

Considering the story of MK4:
Kai - most likely make a return, but he's never really had an impact in terms of story or fanbase.
Cyrax - Remember that MK4 Gold was the story that had Cyrax becoming a hero. It is likely that Sonya and Cage will convert Cyrax to his human form, and we'll have another hero.
Ermac - Again, either being free from Shao Kahn or being controlled by Kind Jerrod, he will be come a hero.
Bo Rai Cho - With Liu Kang dead, he may very well join the heroes for the next war. Especially if Liu Kang is amongst the Netherrealm Warriors.
Kenshi - Considering his DLC spot and major connection with the heroes, I see it likely.
Fujin - I have a feeling he will replace Raiden. I have a feeling Raiden is going to go mad.
Kai and Fujin have weak odds of getting in, but they might. These will likely be the heroes of our story, along with possible temporary alliance characters who help out for the sake of bringing down Shinnok like Kano, Baraka, and Scorpion (if he comes to his senses).
And in terms of villains, obviously Shinnok and Quan Chi, but I see Tanya and Reptile being by their side, just like last time. Oh, and Reiko is entirely possible, though he'd be a stand alone character.

A sequel would be really easy to do, regardless of whether they bring anyone back or not. Of the entire roster, only about half of them died (10 being given to Quan Chi as payment). Most of the bad guys are still alive. i think we will see them all again though, fighting for NetherRealm.
The only thing I didn't like was them changing SubZero to a cyborg only to then kill him off. Then again, I think I'm one of the few people that actually likes CyberSub better than his original form.

This game by far, has the best story! But, the only thing that pissed me off, is that all(Except Johnny Cage and Sonya) fucking die by Sindel in like, less than 5 or so minutes!
If Liu Kang and Raiden were there to back them up, they wouldn't of died

But, Ermac went good during the events of MKD.
I don't think its unlikely at all. Actually, I expect Ermac to become a huge hero in the future. He was build up as so in MKD and MKA, plus, his ending in this new game points to that kind of "life style".

As much as I love Sindel (and that particular scene which is shocking), I have to agree.
I don't think all of those characters should have to die (*Jade, Stryker...*), but, since they did, it would have been better had they been killed off during the process of the storyline by other characters who barely got the attention they deserved (Mileena, Sheeva, Reptile, Baraka...).
It would have made the story deeper and it would have given other characters a bit more of deserved respect.
Anyways, Sindel killing everyone like that was epic and badass...but, at the same time, it was disappointing to see them go in the blink of an eye like that.

You clearly underestimate the Queen.
I think she's powerful enough (without Tsung's enhanced powers) to kill many of those characters by herself....not all of them at the same time, though.

Wait, how is it more "economically viable" to kill them like this? Do you mean to say that they saved up time and money by offing them in one scene with one character instead of featuring, say, 3 more scenes with different characters killing different people at different times during the story?
I just don't think they'd sacrifice the story like that to "cut corners". They've had plenty of time this time around...and support.

That's actually true. Sonya and Johnny are pretty much the only ones standing next to Raiden in the end. Well, Nightwolf too. He was pretty wise and even gave Raiden the faith/support to keep going.

That's what it looked like in MKA anyways. Johnny definitely has some big twists, surprises, and a significant role that will turn everything upside down.

In a nutshell, the whole thing is bullshit. Now, granted, I actually thought Johnny Cage was well done, although it would have been nice to have seen a bit more a dynamic to him. Then again, given the horrid format of the storytelling, that's not possible. I would have loved to have done his character more justice. Sonya was true to her character though she didn't exactly "wow" me. Honestly, she should have probably ditched Raidumb.
I know Sonya is your favorite character and that you're overly happy to see her survive, but I really don't think she was deserving to survive. Sure, from a story standpoint, she could help raise an army against Shinnok's forces. But as a character, what are we going to get? I actually think that Johnny Cage is more deserving, and it's not because of the ridiculous story of him being descended from Mediterranean warriors and having powers involving energetic spasms....
When it comes to Shao Kahn essentially killing Shang Tsung and giving his power to Sindel, it was actually smart of him since Shang Tsung tried to fuck him over in MK: Deadly Alliance's intro despite it being a clone. The scene of Sindel taking out the heroes was really stupid. Granted, I like Sindel, but the heroes acted like fucking idiots. Raidumb's bad influence must have rubbed off on them. Only Nightwolf was smart enough to actually use his powers and do something significant by killing Sindel, even if it means sacrificing his own life.
