We're still debating about this weapon?

I'll give, as much as I hate speculating over things that aren't showcased well.

1.) I don't see this as Bo Rai' Cho. Bo has had a walking stick, this weapon don't look like a walking stick. He's an old guy. I think there was stuff in his conquest story in Deadly Alliance saying he's at least a hundred years old. If he indeed has a weapon, it would most likely be that stick. And since we're around the Mortal Kombat 4 story, he's still aged so I doubt we have a young version of him... unless there's some relative of his involved that is this guy.

I thought Bo Rai' Cho wasn't a serious enough character for this game? tongue Now there's a lot of wants for him? Oooookay.

2.) I believe this is Salazar. Isn't there a description saying he's a "weapons expert?" If so, maybe we'll see three variations of him using different weapons such as the bow, maybe a sword or axe, and then maybe a staff. Three different weapons all being used differently, and this picture would obviously showcase a bow since it's held in a way that you would hold a bow.

Or

3.) This could be Nightwolf, and since he'll either be undead or resurrected, maybe he doesn't have possession of this ancestral light that he has had in the past. Maybe a darker, more sinister version of this shaman which would be fucking awesome for this character.

But of course, Nightwolf is like a heavily underrated character so I don't see it happening unless a blue full moon shines.

Last but not least:

4.) New female.

But, of course... that's just speculation, and I don't care if none of these are true. In the end, it'll be revealed most likely next week, and knowing since I have loved everything this game has shown, I'll be impressed whoever it is.

Someone weilding a longbow would be holding it differently - more 'ready', raised up sort of perpendicular across their body, with a hand on the string. Having the bow's tip on the ground like that is far too relaxed a combat-ready pose for someone who could use it at any moment. It's awkward.

However, resting the bottom end of a staff, scythe etc. like that is something you see pretty often - like the way Bo would.

It may be a combination of a bow, staff, and a scythe hmm I think this is the ultimate weapon to have in the game thus far.wink

I'm not really an expert, but polearms don't usually have grips. Because, y'know, I'd imagine you'd have to be able to reposition your hands anywhere along the handle at a moment's notice. A grip would just get in the way.

And whatever this thing is, it's got one hell of a fancy grip.

So I dunno.

This.

The grip rules out a pole-type weapon, IMO. It's got to be a big ass longbow of some kind.

That's fair. But at the same time I'd submit that I've seen a fair amount of fictional elaborate scythes in my time, sometimes with a grip in the middle and/or one towards the end of the pole.

In any case, I tend to throw traditional weapons structure out the window a little when it comes to MK. We've had just as many fantastical weapons as we have realistic ones (I wish we'd gotten that fly-spitting staff for Quan Chi). I'd agree from a realistic respective the structure's very suggestive of a bow, though.

I'm glad you mentioned Quan Chi's staff concept because I cannot tell you how long I've wanted that in this series. Ever since I laid eyes on that I've been begging for something like that to make its presence in the series.

But game after game, I'm starting to feel that we'll never see it. I'll be damned if we do in this game by having someone else carry it.

Had D'Vorah not have her bug legs be something as a weapon, I could have seen her use it in some way.

It would just be great to see this concept not go to a waste, unfortunately it feels like it is.

I have Ed Boon's reaction. WTF indeed.
I don't know what to think of any of Ed's piktures... it used to be boots, now it's a hand. What am I supposed to do with this shenanigan.

I don't know what that spiked broomstick is.... all I know is that I hope Tanya has a big-asss boomerang of some kind.

Tanya must be in this mess of a game! grin

Sure

I believe you could also view it in the Deadly Alliance crypt, but it's been such a long time since I've played it, I don't know.

But it is viewable in the strategy guide.

The concept drawings for MKDA were so badass. Drahmin seemed like a really cool character according to the concept drawings and his story. Too bad he turned out to be such a dud. I just love the darkness of MKDA though. That was a very dark game. In terms of atmosphere/story it is still my favorite MK. /tangentover

So it seems like the BIG REVEAL will be during the twitch stream (next week?)! I hope they reveal new characters soon because I don't want to just focus on Kitana. I want a lot of Kitana's gameplay to be a mystery to me when I first play the game.

Characters that were first revealed (Scorpion, Subzero, D'vorah etc), I feel like I know pretty much everything about their variations, specials etc. I want the Edenian goddess to be somewhat of a mystery. Just a thought.

What do you guys think Ed means by IN DEPTH?

1) What "BIG REVEAL" are you referring to? As far as I know, we weren't promised anything specific. The stream doesn't necessarily have to reveal anything besides Kitana's and Kung Lao's variations/gameplay.

2) If you want Kitana's gameplay to remain a mystery, you might not want to watch the stream.

3) In-depth means they're gonna show what each variation does, presumably.

I'm referring to the BIG REVEAL that everyone has been talking about on these forums teased by Ed Boon, which is supposed to occur next week.

I have a feeling that the stream will focus on more than just Kitana and Kung Lao as the tweet I posted implies.

I'm aware of what in depth means haha. Ed Boon is a trickster and I'm sure he means more by that which is why I was asking.

Not everything that Ed Boon tweets is allegoric. It does not always have a hidden meaning.

We are probably going to see Kitana's variations and their ins and outs. Probably with Kung Lao as well.

Turns out New character reveal next week. And IN DEPTH did mean more than what is on the surface.

I'm really intruged by the thought of it being a bow-user name Shalazar!

Awesome name and awesome idea! I really want Shalazar to be true!

I want Nightwolf in it too, but rather as werewolf/corrupted character.

Bo Rai Cho is fine for the background, but rather see his evil brother Ron Tan’ Cho that is more serious and less funny.

Eyes more open now. I'll allow the Longbow theory if only that longbow can be used as a staff too....magically.

So basically...a Jade (weapon usage wise) that can also shoot arrows.

Yes please?

Anyone else think the bow looks like it was made from the insect arms of Dvorah. It looks exactly like the arms that come out of her back. Perhaps someone is hunting her race?

I believe he means, the bow actually isn't very long, it's just that the boot picture has him holding the bow near his foot, and the newer picture has him holding it up.

Clearly the weapon is more bone-like, so D'Vorah's insect arm/leg is out of question.

ecaxtly like @Darkk stated
Like the same person, but 2 different times where one time they hold the bow out(the hand pic) like this

and the boot pic with the person holding the bow at his/her side like this

Not saying this is how it is, just saying a possibility

I just can't see the bow being ginormous in a fighting game

I think I understand what you're talking about now, but still, if this is a bow, I believe it has to be a longbow.

Mind you, I'm being generous with the length.
Because IF these two are the same thing.
Then there's more room for length.
The colored bow picture, the bottom part of the weapon, the wood, has vertical stripes?/dents?/cuts? to it.
While the black and white picture, the object is horizontal.
Which means, in between, there's something holding it together, most likely another bone object or maybe cloth/wraps.

Cages_Shades Wrote:

It's a Longbow, it has to be big. You witness ginormous long sticks and staves in the past games, right? It shouldn't be that unsettling.
