IGN Reports MK Title for Nintendo DS is Ultimate Mortal Kombat!

The folks over at IGN are reporting that Midway has revealed to them the titles for their next three games for the Nintendo DS. Back in January, we reported that Midway was in the process of making a MK title for the DS. According to IGN, this title will be entitled Ultimate Mortal Kombat, and is a port of Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3, complete with online play and leaderboards. In addition, Ultimate Mortal Kombat will include Puzzle Kombat, the MK-themed puzzle game that was first introduced as an extra in Mortal Kombat: Deception. From the article:

Ultimate Mortal Kombat, Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends, and Maya the Bee are on the slate in Midway's holiday line-up for the Nintendo DS. The company made the announcement that these three games are scheduled for release this November.

Ultimate Mortal Kombat is a conversion of the Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 arcade game, complete with local and online competitions with record tracking. Added to the mix is Puzzle Kombat, the Super Puzzle Fighter clone featuring super deformed Mortal Kombat characters.

We'll definitely be keeping an eye out on this title. As we learn more, we'll be sure to report it here.

Awww.... no added classic fighters, like MK2 Noob Saibot or MK1 Johnny Cage. I was hoping for something like that...

Its not really ultimate mortal kombat, its just ultimate mortal kombat 3 Bleh...

Is it going to be an arcade perfect port.Or will it still be the snes verison of UMK3 with online play.Or what the hell?

Yes this reminds me when i actually got excited for mortal kombat advance.And for some reason i have a bad feeling.Unless their gonna try to port the 360 verison then i am not sure what to think about.But if its just UMK3 there are a few problems,which are,how are you going to unlock ermac and subzero melieena?Thats why i think its going to be a port of the snes one instead.

Its more likely a port of the arcade version and the snes version has crap graphics really. What im hoping for is in the stages where you can upper cut someone to the next level is that they end up on the top screen, thatd be cool.

agreed, itss been 12 years and they still are trying to milk mk3 for all its worth. MKT would have been perfect. And it looks like Rain won't be in the roster for this version of MK3. It was either him or sheeva and they chose sheeva the lesbo i guess,lol. ps for those of you who didnt get that, Rain apeared in the nintendo and saga versions of UMK3 and sheeva apeared in the rest, but the two have never both apeared in a version of UMK3 together.

To be honest I am not really looking forward to this game based on the promotional video. It looks like a lame port of the god awful Super Nintendo version of Ultimate MK3. Plus we all know how bad MK Trilogy for the N64 turned out. If they cant use the actual music and sound effects for this game and throw in the terrible MDHI music or whatever its called I will not touch this game. and on that note, they ported Resident Evil to the DS, why dont they port Mortal Kombat Trilogy for the Playstation to the DS?

With a newly added Khameleon and a new puzzle mode that actually has something to do with MKT.

The stuff IGN has is all pretty much bogus still. Midway just slapped together cheesy stuff to have something to show. The stills show UMK3 for the arcade superimposed over a DS and the video shows UMK3 for SNES instead.

It's great they picked UMK3, so long as it's a good version of UMK3. MKT wouldn't make much sense because they'd have to go in and change aspects of the gameplay to make it as balanced as UMK3. MKT would simply not be fun for multiplayer. It's too broken.

If they manage to make a good port of the arcade, this will be awesome.

If they do just use UMK3 for SNES or something like that, it'll just be a shame and this will be a waste of a release.

This is NOT that game, first off Boon said himself in the trailer just to let you guys know that he had NOTHING to do with the MKAdvance project...therefore it turned out horrible.

This project however, he is very involved in. To answer your questions as I've noticed some here asked, is is the SNES port again or the actual arcade port of UMK3?

Easy, this time unlike the past portable MK 2D fighters will be the exact same arcade original port version of UMK3.

This game is going to rock once it's out, I can't wait!

The puzzle is a nice touch, since that's also playable online hehe.

FTR, UMK3 is a much better, more balanced game then MKT is by farr...

To dreemer, what's up man? Anyway just wanted to let you know that if you read the whole article Boon said himself that this will be the arcade port like the same they did with the 360 version and check this out man, they have the same people working on it as they did for the 360 UMK3. That makes me feel very good and optimistic about this game for the DS coming out.

The main point is the footage shown in the video that is circulating is 100% not the actual game footage so no one base their purchase potential on that. I think all the releasing of UMK3 etc is really pushing towards the reworked arcade quality MKT eventually, but that's just wishful thinking.

Of course the trailers fake, or just thrown together. If you notice in one segment, the health bars are totally different to the ones shown previously in the trailer.

Yeah, the 1 clip from Genesis vs all the others from SNES.

But believe me, there are a lot of people right now arguing that this is video of a completely new DS game and this is what the game is going to look like when it comes out. I can't understand why, but that's just the way the internet is I guess.

Hey, you never know man? I mean *chuckles* who would have thought that UMK3 would come out for the DS?

Also, if they did ever decide to do that which version would it be?

I mean N64 or the Ps version where there were certain characters available or not available that were in the other version of MKT.

I'm not referring to the actual gameplay or anything, which we all know has to be tweaked but for example, I know this might sound silly but I'm sure you'll find someone that wants to play as say MK1 Kano(from the PS version) or Khameleon from the N64 version.

Or, do they just tweak MKT all together and combine both versions into one fixed up, polished version for the 360, DS or whatever some day.

You know what I would love, if they remade MKT all fixed up with everyone from all versions and put it on the nintendo wii online in the future that would be so awesome since PS3 has MK2, Xbox 360 has UMK3 so give the wii the redone MKT for the wii.

Now, that's wishful thinking lol. As a Nintendo, MK fan that would be my dream.

Ohh yeah man, that's what I mean. Make MKT like UMK3 only with the characters in MKT(which is a lot)

I agree, that would be sweet.

If they put it on the wii, this way you would have UMK3-360/DS, MK2-PS3 and MKT redone(arcade style) on the wii.

That would be awesome as you said if they remade it arcade style.
