I've never been a fan I think what keeps him around is residual movie popularity. He's a prime example of a villain that's worn out his welcome.

I have a certain amount of respect for him for being one of the originals, and I actually didn't mind him in MK1, but ever since I saw the first MK movie I haven't liked him since lol

I checked my stats today and he is actually my least used character in MKX excluding Tanya, for obvious reasons lol

He's one of my favorite characters. He consistently has good designs and usually has really fun game-play. I didn't pick him up right away in MKX because I wanted to start with someone that fits my play style but I recently started practicing with him. His Cybernetic variation is actually pretty damn good if you can get in and punish properly. His projectile is good enough that you can force people to come in and get punished as well. I put together a little combo video that I posted in this thread.

I liked that they kept Kano involved with the story but had his rivalry with Sonya almost as something on the side in MKX. The rivalry was there but his purpose this time wasn't "oh I'm just here to kill Sonya". His big thing was stealing the amulet and attacking Kotal. He does important things without the focus constantly being on him and I find that to be good. If he had the spotlight constantly with the things he does people would complain that he is shoved down our throats. He is in a good spot right now.

Kano is like, my second favorite character.

Fuck yeah, I love Kano. He's my favorite villain in the game, and I'm glad he's finally getting a bit more recognition than just being the dumbass, weakling lackey that the 3d games made him out to be. His design and attitude in MK9 were a huge resurgance for him, and I love him even more in MKX. I'm hoping his story eventually comes full circle - if he dies, then he dies, and I'll say goodbye to a favorite, but I'm hoping he finally gets to that point in the next game.

I'm a Kano fan, too. He is one of the few characters of MK that has a personality other than his character. What I mean by that is most of the Kast's personalities are based around their character (the specter is vengeful, the god is wise[ish], the military brat is no nonsense). Instead of being typical goon, Kano is the sleazy underling with disgusting charm. I'm not saying he is the only character like that, but he is one of them who are a step ahead character wise. So, I love the fact this guy is constantly in the games.

And yes I do think it's because of Trevor Goddard's performance in the movie.

Not a fan of Kano, but I guess he would have that long going feud with Sonya for awhile. Sonya needs someone to target lol

Wasn't really a Kano fan before MKX. But I like the asshole personality when he fights lol. and hes really fun to use lol. He's actually my main lol.

Kano is the best character out of the mk1 era to me. Not saying others aren't. But definitely kano. Shang Tsung up there too.

Kano is pretty shit in my opinion always had shit moves and fighting style and a pretty boring look. I think the reason he is around is because he is the only real human villian of any substance in the game and he had a strong rivalry with sonya.

I am hoping that erron black takes over from him this game and becomes the human mercenary/ villian for the future MK games because Kano has had a good run and introducing a son would just be shitty so I think they should just put him to rest for good!

Kano's awesome. Wish they'd up play the "survive at any cost" thing he has goin for him even more than they do. The guy should be absolutely covered in scars and have even more tattoo's. If they wanted to end the whole sonya feud thats been going on like 20 plus years now that would be cool by me too. I think Kano's drifting off into Ermac/Reptile territory where the writers have no idea what to do with the character anymore, although Kano's not quite there yet since he did play a somewhat important role in the story mode. Or they could hire new writers, which would be awesome by me.

Love Kano. Very funny. Huge character. I win with him too, which is nice.

Kano is the original video game mercenary. Can't believe any true MK fan doesn't like Kano

Kano is my main character since MKT. I love him. I play the Cutthroat variation over anything else. I was excited to get the laser back and expected to love Cybernetic but cutthroat gave me the knife uppercut of MKT back and sweet knife combos.

I loved that he was still at it in MKX, betraying everyone and overall acting like an asshole.

I'll be honest, Kano for the most part, has always has the same generic story in EVERY game. They could delve so much deeper into his Black Market and corruption aspect. He is the main villain of the Special Forces and with so much focus being on the SF now, I see the BD playing an even bigger role next time around. I see Kano, possibly being in the backdrop next go around with some of his BD buddies taking the frontline.

As a playable character, its weird, I randomly picked him a match online and oddly felt comfortable with him, He has went from an afterthought to my main in a span of an hour. If the MK9 is any indication, Kano won't be in the next game. Jade and Kabal were my mains and well....haha

I feel like they're trying to develop the Black Dragon enough to the point where Kano and his crew will be key players in the next game. During the 3d era they forsook the Black Dragon in favor of the new Red Dragon characters, which ultimately sucked - Mavado was boring, and Hsu Hao was universally despised. Daegon was interesting enough, but the shoving of the Red Dragon down our throats wasn't easily digestible. I appreciate the idea that the Black and Red Dragon clans are both derivative of the twin dragons that represent Daegon and Taven, and both clans ultimately became corrupt, but I'm not interested in the Red Dragon - both of their key players are dead (according to the comic, which I don't even consider remotely canon at this point), and Kano has setup a major network across Earthrealm and Outworld.

I wouldn't mind Kano killing Sonya, and that being a major focal point for Johnny, Cassie and the Special Forces in the next game - dismantling the Black Dragon organization. It could be a major sub-plot, with the primary plot allowing for the Shirai Ryu, Lin Kuei, and White Lotus to address the overall threat.

He is like the best character in MKX.

I don't know. Kano seems to rather enjoy torturing Sonya. I don't think he would kill her. He's obsessed with her. In the old timeline he kept a strand of her hair that he ripped off in MK3 all the way into Deadly Alliance years later.

This time around It took 25 years for her to catch him and it's because he made the mistake of thinking he could go in the camp alone and talk business.

Kano wouldn't kill Sonya. If anybody dies, it's him. Would be cool if Kano spent the next game unplayable in a maximum security Special Forces prison while the Black Dragon go on a rampage. There would be the whole mystery of "who's leading them?" and Kano would toy with Sonya from his cell.

Kano's great. One of my go-to characters in most of the games he's in. I thought his design in Deadly Alliance was truly great and I actually like the direction they took with him despite how much inspiration it took from the movie. He's a super likeable bad guy in the recent story modes.



Because he's a great character. Popularity, or lack thereof, should never be the primary reason to include or cut a character. His gameplay has always had a place and he's always had his purpose in the story.

I'm a bit disappointed in how he plays in MKX. Unlike some characters, he really doesn't benefit from variations. His cool moves are spread too thin. It's unfortunate.

But I would like to see him in future games, for sure. I think it would be a really wild and cool idea to have him extending his life through the use of cybernetics. Sonya may grow old and retire, but Kano becomes more machine than man and an even more deadly rival to Cassie or whatever direction they want to go with it.

You know what I thought about recently? A crossover anything with Tekken where Kano meets Bryan Fury and analyzes him, then turns himself into a full cyborg.

As much I like Tekken and Street Fighter, I would have prefered them to face off against MK instead.

I'm gonna go off-topic for a second, but I would accept MK vs DC type of censorship if we were to get the SF guys in a game somehow. My heart lies with MK, but my childhood brains wants to see the Big Two face off properly. With MK's recent changes in gameplay, it would be easier to combine the gameplay of both games, unlike how the Tekken guys were just shoehorned into SF4's gameplay.

First of all lemme call out the hypocrisy over the years from ninja palette swap fanboys who constantly criticize Kano for being un-original and having a stale storyline......to all of you I say : "LOL......really??"

Now that I got this out of the way, I think Kano is actually quite popular in the MK community, it just unfortunately doesn't translate in people using him in game, because when it comes to core classic characters, he does take a backseat to most of them. It's like he's the Hawaiian pizza of MK in that most people like him, are to cool with having him around but ultimately go with more predictable choices. Like many have said, he really is the only 100% human antagonist in the game with staying power and I think that alone will always make him a staple.

Well, sorta. But he should have been switched over to Mavado, that is what MKDA established in Sonya''s conquest.

I kind of wish he just looked different lol I know its too late for that now but if he looked like...idk Kabal (Who I love btw) I would probably be a fan, but ever since MK3 and the MK movie I just haven't liked how he looks for some reason.

Call me shallow but I am not afraid to admit I will like or dislike characters based on how they look lol that's why my options in SF are so limited
