MK 7 Graphics

posted09/02/2005 01:15 AM (UTC)byDoes anyone think we'll see in-game graphics for MK7 on par, if not exactly what we're seeing Midway do with the graphics for the game intros from the past 2 MK games (MKD, & MK:SM)? I really hope we get at least that much of a jump in graphics for MK7 if it's released on the next gen systems. I think we deserve that much at the least.

Dude.....just look at this picture of Jin from Tekken on the next gen technology and answer your own question.....

Granted, I know Namco's graphics beat Midway's graphics, but still. The rise in quality is evident.

Are those actual in-game shots, or just an FMV?

Well apparently Midway was one of the first developers to get the Unreal Engine 3 kit. Its also rumored to be the graphics engine they are using for MK 7. If this is the case, look no further than screen shots of Unreal 7 and Gears of War to get a taste of what MK Next Gen will look like. Mmmmm ...... unreal engine 3 ......grraaarrgrrrggllrlrl

It's from a short FMV - it was just used as an example of what to expect from the next gen technology. Yeah, I know, so then it means nothing.....but if that's what the FMV looks like, well the graphics on the actual game must not be far behind.
Man, I hope the Midway team tackles MK7 GOOD. I mean, MKDA was a step in the right direction it seems, but people don't seem to like MKD very much. So, hopefully MK7 changes things up.

If MK7 is going to be using the Unreal 3 engine....wow. I would be seriously interested to see what kind of graphical power the MK team can harness with that beast.
DOA 4 doesn't look to be that big of a graphical upgrade, which is surprising considering the fact that Team Ninja has always been towards the forefront when it comes to graphics. If the MK team can put out something that really makes people's jaws drop, then that's half the battle right there (the half of course being that actual quality of the fighting, more than half obviously for fighting game fans).
I'd love to see the MK team really take advantage of the next generation. Make the characters look more realistic and less cartoony or plastic. I'd also like to see a good amount of FMV sequences that really drive the story home. I'd want it to be Twisted Metal: Black style, where you have an opening video for each character, a middle video (for MK it could be a sort of vendetta match...You know, when Kano fights Sonya or when Sub fights Noob etc, when two sworn enemies duke it out) and an end video.
In that vein, I think it would be awesome if, after you beat the game with every character, you got a full ending movie. Not to show you everything that happens, because some stuff needs to be left to the imagination (ie the sequel), but perhaps a 10 minute video showing who beat who, how the plot progressed, who got revenge against who, who betrayed who, basically alot of the plot points that are unique to MK7, right up until the final fight, without showing the result. A good cliffhanger to make fans want the next game even more.
Sound like a good idea?
Man, MK + Unreal 3 engine...my mind is still trying to wrap itself around the possibilities...

Graphics aren't everything, but they will look good i know it will.
DOA is nice because of the babes, lets admit already,LOL tekken is over rated imo, SC is nice but the thing that bites me about these titles is that all of these beating up and not one drop of blood or bruises.AAAAAARRRRRRR, MK has that showing, nobody talks about that though.
Either way, MK7 will look better then Deception and thats good enough for me.
Now what they should do is when there is a fatality, have the guts pour our and unravel with blood leaking out like they do but make it look as real as possible.

They should be as good as the intros of MKD and MKSM or better. Less Cartoony and more realistic. They can finally have individual FMV endings and maybe intros. They could do them in the MGS style of realtime with the real time graphics. Although they could do them God of War style with pictures that come to life.

My suggestion is for the MK Team to go back to digitalized graphics. With the Power of the Unreal Engine 3, and next gen technology, the fighters could look photo realistic. Now by digitilized, I mean, they should build 3D models, and the scan real actors, (ala Smackdown Vs. Raw ). If anyone here plays smackdown vs. raw, you know that if you squint , the characters look dam near real. Now imagine using that technology but with the power of Next Gen graphics. We could FINALLY see the MK series return to its dark and realistic roots.
With Unreal engine 3, we can have real time graphics with better quality than most cinematic sequences in games these days. They can use less polygons for better graphics by utilizing the textures on the polygon meshes. This results in a large amount of memory left over. So, they can have excellent graphics, better than any today by far, all in real time. So, even if they added cutscenes at the beginning of each campaign and the middle, and the end, they can render it in real time, therefore using less space, allowing more room for these cutscenes. but, as I have said before, these cutscenes will be the highest quality you will have seen, Complete awesomeness. Just look at any Unreal Tournament 2007 screenshots, REAL TIME SCREENS!!!

I doubt that the MK Team would miss the opprotunity to utilize the Unreal 3 engine that Midway has licensed. I am not worried about the graphics that MK7 will showcase.
The FMV of Jin is very impressive, but I want to see some in game shots. DOA4 will look fantastic when it's released, and a lot has to do with the HD resolution that it will be presented with on the Xbox360. The MK Team knows in order to compete with the next-gen fighters it will have to blow people away graphically, as well as technically.
