The more I hear about the MKX roster and look back on MK9, the more I think of this.

I don't mean the exact roster, but the gist of it. I noticed a lot of the characters referenced in MK9 are found in this roster. Also, while the Seidan characters were never specifically mentioned, Seido was. This offers yet another hint towards Deception and its roster.

Specifically, Havik, Bo' Rai Cho, Tanya, Kira, and Kenshi were referenced in the game, with Kenshi becoming a playable character afterwards. With a mixture of referenced characters and the characters remaining from MK9's deathfest, it seems a Deception-style roster may be within reach. It does not surprise me, however, since Deception is a great representation of characters NRS values most.

It seems more and more probable that certain characters found in Deception will make the roster in MKX, and I have no problem with that, since Deception contains my favorite roster of the series. grin Well, what do you all think? Please share!

Honestly I'd be glad to have any Deception characters except Darrius, Kobra and Kira. Weird though, MK X actually has quite a few similarities to Deception haha.

1. Lots of brand new characters introduced
2. Story takes place over large amount of time
3. Possibly undead/scarred Liu Kang
4. Possibly Hara Kiris/new -alities
5. Darker tone
6. Lots of the "warriors of light" already dead
etc...

I imagined the Deadly Alliance roster myself since it seems like close to half of the roster will be new. I'd rather the Deception ratio of returning characters to new ones though. I wouldn't be surprised if we get 2 characters from Deception, mainly Havik.

Honestly, most characters I liked from Deception were original from previous games.

Deception's own original characters were lacking a huge lot.

Kira, Kobra, Darrius and Dairou were really generic and lacking personallity.

Havik was interesting though to be honest I'd rather have a seidan trained Johnny Cage in MKX (like his MK9 ending) than any characters from that realm on Deception (including Hotaru) to act as opposition to Havik as everyone else was really bland.

I'd agree, DA's newcomers seemed more diverse than Deception's and it seems they'll be able to bring diversity to the newcomers again. And Seidan trained Johnny, yes yes omg yes.

Bleh. The new characters introduced in MKX are already infinitely better than MK:D's additions.

Havik has potential in his style, but like every single character introduced after MK3, would need a brand new move-set.

The less we see of that era, the better.

I will take

Havik
Bo' Rai Cho
Tanya
Kenshi he will probably look more like Shujinko in MKX
A female with moves similar to Kobra could be cool

MK9 was like DA, with the staple/iconic/prominent characters included.

MKX will be the Deception of the era, with the lesser characters coming back.

All I see when I look at that roster and think of a comparable one to MKX....Kabal. Kabal. Instant air gas blasts everywhere.

I would be VERY surprised if anyone outside of Havik and maybe Hotaru made it in from the Deception cast.

Deception had such a lackluster entourage of newbies most people are probably hard pressed to remember their names.

Havik, Hotaru, Ashrah and a revamped Kobra (dont judge me, I loved Kobra) would make me very happy.

MKDA had 11 new characters though. 10 if you count Blaze as a "returning" character.

Interesting thread. In terms of returning characters in general I think the roster should look like this:

6 New Characters
11 MK9 Returning Characters -Scorp, SubZero, Mileena, Ermac, Quan Chi, Kenshi, Rain, Cyrax, Sektor, Smoke, Baraka
4 MK4 Characters - Fujin, Tanya, Kai, Shinnok
3 MKDA Characters - Bo, Nitara, Frost
3 MKD Characters - Havik, Ashrah, Hotaru/Kira (I think both can become really interesting if they flesh their gameplay out coz their backstories are good)
1 MKA Character - Sareena

That gives us 28 characters which is very balanced I think. I also picked those who I think can contribute to the story as long as the team doesn't decide to make most of them punching bags again!

Hotaru has the potential to be an amazing characters, say what you will. The Havik and Hotaru rivalry is, in its core, fascinating. The trials of order and chaos are something that people struggle with in real life, from different symbolic standpoints. If the team ever made an effort to successfully delve into this concept, it could be a top tier MK storyline IMO.

^Exactly my thoughts. His look and specials were a bit boring though (same with Kira) that is why ppl are quick to dismiss them as useless characters. There is some great potential in there. I'd love them to add a few females from Seido and Chaosrealm too.

Storywise, Hotaru is a great character, and makes a fine visual villain.

When it comes to gameplay, he needs a lot of work. Since his name does in fact mean 'firefly,' it could be possible that his future moveset will involve both fire and some form of flight. The Lava Burst will likely be the template.

Deception I thought had a near great balance, the only problem is that half of the characters they introduced could have been done with out. For example, there were 8 new characters introduced(not counting Onaga since he wasn't playable)- of those 8 I would have dropped Dairou, Darrius, Kira, & Kobra. Those four were simply there to flesh out other characters stories but they really weren't "needed" imo. The four kept would have been Havik, Hotaru, Ashrah, & Shujinko. You know, the new characters that actually had a purpose and ties with the other characters in the game.

In place of the dropped four I probably would've added Kung-Lao, Nitara, Mavado, & Kitana in their place. Making it 10 returning DA characters instead of 6.

Wow didn't know that. Now that I think of it, his specials could involve light somehow in them. Kinda like Kratos' move where he blinded the opponent.

I'd like between 8-10 new characters out of the roster of around 30. That'd be ideal.

1 from MK4 who wasn't in MK9, 2 from MKDA-Deception, and the rest from MK9.

Personally, I'd rather have as little from MK9 as needed.

MK4: Tanya, Fujin, Kai
MKDA: Bo' Rai Cho, Li Mei
MKD: Havik, Ashrah
MK2011: Quan Chi, Mileena, Kenshi, Skarlet

The thought of a revamped Havik, Hotaru and Fujin....with how amazing NRS are making every character in this game, even Cassie could have been Kira V2, but she's clearly her own fleshed out character with her own moves and unique gameplay.....

in Kira's story, wasn't she an arms dealer? Didn't she dress up as a guy or something?

Well I know it isn't accurate to her story, but her being an arms dealer could definitely tie in to the Outworld Marketplace stage..........

Yes she was an arms dealer selling weapons to terrorists in Afghanistan where she had to pose as a man.
