I just found this tweet by Ed

https://twitter.com/noobde/status/663450312863182848

It reads... " Guy who played Leatherface died. :( That movie scared the KRAP out of me when I was a kid. "

For some reason I feel like he wouldn't refer to somebody he was friends with as "guy" lol maybe thats just me though.
MK Community: "FUJIN FOR KP2! FUJIN FUJINFUJINFUJINFUJIN!"

Boon/NRS: "Bo Rai Cho?"

MK Community: "Well some of us want the NPCS from Story Mode and some of us want the Cameos from Story mode and some of us want Noob Saibot and Havik"

Boon/NRS: "Nah. You don't want any of that. You want Leatherface!"

After looking at that tweet from Boon where he acknowledged Hansen's passing you can see that a lot of people were telling Boon to honor his passing by putting Leatherface in the game via KP2...maybe just maybe its possible he thought that was a good idea. I personally agree.

When the guy from Gwar passed away people wanted to put him in MK and even made a petition for him.

But is he in the game?

There is no doubt in my mind they stuck Leatherface in for the movie next year. I mean even the movie name is fuckin Leatherface.

No disrespect to that guy (R.I.P) but lets keep it real here, he is nowhere near as well known or as iconic as Leatherface. I doubt many people outside of Gwar (and metal fans) even know who he was. I literally used to live minutes away from the place Gwar was formed and couldn't name a single member or song of theirs. There are likely a ton of people who aren't even horror fans that know what The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Leatherface are. Also let me add that I wasn't saying his passing would be the only reason they put Leatherface in the game, that coupled with people asking for him, how well known he is, how he has a huge fanbase, and how there is a new movie in the works likely played a big role too.

Once again- doubt it. All these other bankable options and they go with Leatherface because a movie that may or may not be released sometime next year? Not a word has been said on it since it wrapped filming back in May.

Point is TCM isn't exactly a hot or active property as of now.

All that needs to happen is for Boon or someone from NRS to come out and make a statement outlining these lousy KP2 choices. If they wanted to save popular characters like Fujin, Noob, Shang, Jade etc for big roles in the next game then come out and say so. If they were pressured into including leatherface and Jason by WB then come out and say so.

It's all the secrecy and lack of information that kills me when it comes to NRS they just need to be more honest and open with the fans especially after directly ignoring their requests like they have clearly done with the both KPs for MkX especially with this shitty KP2!

Let's also consider what the DLC means versus the next game. Even if they are always evolving, the movesets of the characters stay familiar from game to game.

They could have rushed to get Fujin, Reiko, Havik or whoever out in a couple of months but they couldn't back away from whatever moves they give them afterwards. The cool thing with the guests is that it allows complete freedom without locking them for the future. Tremor and Triborg are most likely not coming back. Alien will have some Baraka flair. Only Tanya and Bo' Rai Cho have a good chance of coming back in the next game. More time can be spent giving them a proper moveset that will live on in the next generation.

If some 3D era guys are to come back in the next game, I'd rather know they've evolved in the 2 years of development instead of being slapped together in a few weeks with NRS hoping for the best.

I'm over MKX anyway, so if this is it- I'm more than fine with not having characters like Fujin/Havik/Li Mei/Noob/Smoke ect shoved in as last minute desperate DLC for this game. That said, I also won't be having high hopes and expectations when it comes to them showing up in MK11 either. We all had certain expectations when it came to this game and look how that turned out. I think MK11 will be the first MK game since MKII that I will not buy upon release- I'll probably wait until it has been release and once all the DLC has been pumped out and if it has 16 guests and a lame ass roster- then it will be a complete skip for me.

I don't know...
Hansen passed away in November, while the kombat pack was announced months ago.

Dude, has anyone else seen GWAR live? I caught them back on Viva La Bands Tour before they started dropping like flies and oh my.

They've never been a favorite band of mine, but I'd sacrifice seeing a favorite just to watch them perform again. Absolutely fantastic show. I went to school with blue and green stained skin the next day. Good times.

That's a good point. I know its unlikely but hopefully Boon or somebody from NRS can kind of share the story of how Leatherface came to be in KP2. The optimist in me wants to believe its because of Gunnar Hansen's passing and not just because of a new movie coming out lol

Leatherface was most likely already in development before he passed away.

He definitely was, his silhouette was in the KP2 announcement teaser image.

After getting over my initial shock and venting a bit on this thread ten some pages ago, I'm fairly certain I'll let the guests go by and just get Bo. Maybe Triborg if his gameplay is good enough.

To the people saying "a fan is a fan is a fan," I tend to disagree. While I don't think that core fans are better than casuals, I think that both serve specific purposes. You need casuals at launch because they're larger in numbers. Sales are obviously key.

But core fans are more likely to pre-order, more likely to buy those uber-expensive special editions, to keep the online community bustling weeks and months after release, to snatch up any and all DLC and keep your game hot in the FGC at tourneys and on social media. Initial sales are huge, but so is longevity and overall brand loyalty.

So while they're two sides of the same coin, they're not the same side. Again, I'm not saying one side is better, because they're not.

But when you're using stuff that's generally regarded as being geared more toward casuals (notice I said GENERALLY, as core fans are more than free to like guests) this late in the DLC game, I think core fans, who were at least somewhat forgiving of KP1's guests, maybe have a bit of a right to feeling like they're toes are getting stepped on a bit here.

As for the whole "poisonous" aspect of this board... I don't see it. When MKX's characters were announced, some were 50/50 splits on opinion. Some were higher. Some like Erron Blsck seemed to get largely positive responses.

But when something like this gets a largely negative response, it's not a sign (to me) that this board is going to hell or that only ungrateful, salty little piggies who hate everything post here. Sorry, I've been here since before MKD came out and I don't agree with that sentiment.

Yes, there are people that have strong opinions on things, but that doesn't mean the whole board is this singular homogeneous blob of hate.

Personally, I hope fans communicate to NRS that they don't like this KP and why and I hope they take that message to heart. I don't think anyone feels like they're entitled to get exactly what they want. But if something falls this far short of people's expectations, then yes, they should hear about it in a hopefully responsible and constructive way.

Of course, that's not how the internet works, but hopefully NRS will be able to see the difference between the usual "can't please everyone" opinion split / internet vitriol and a decision that really bothered a large percentage of the base and maybe, hopefully do something in response via a third KP or at least communicate an understanding going forward.

It's a small dream, but it's my dream.

I'll save you guys time and post you the upcoming transcript of Boon's interview about this Kombat Pack....

Boon: ''Horror movie characters are great because they really fit in the Mortal Kombat lore!''

Interviewer: ''But.............why are you going OUTSIDE of Mortal Kombat, to find characters that ''fit'' the lore when you have dozens of unused characters FROM Mortal Kombat to choose from?''

Boon: ''THIS INTERVIEW IS OVER!''

I'm very unimpressed with the pack. I love Bo and wanted him more than Reiko, Rain, or almost anyone else, but I don't have much interest in any of the others. To all the people saying that NRS don't care about MK anymore, do you really think they wouldn't have put in most of these guest in MK3? Hell, some of the characters are flat out rip offs. If the gameplay of these guests are great, then NRS could very well use them for future MK characters. The move stealing sucks when one character takes from another, but taking from a guest that (most likely) won't ever be playable again could really help with the creation of new characters. Imagine in MK11 a oni character is added that is similar to Jason by using his unstoppable and relentless abilities. If you take some of Predator's attacks you would have an awesome Black Dragon member. The Tarkatamorph and even Leatherface are sure to also have unique traits about them that could be expanded upon.

I never thought i'd be back here to post anything because of the vitriol that got heaved my way before i departed about a certain issue i had with MKX as mentioned below - but this i have to comment on.

THIS DLC PACK??? REALLY????? ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME???????

THIS DLC PACK WAS WHAT NRS SPENT TIME, EFFORT AND MONEY ON PRODUCING INSTEAD OF DEVELOPING AND PERFECTING LAST-GEN VERSIONS FOR MKX (which - yes i know - they pawned off the task to an inferior team, but I'm saying hypothetically if they HAD done it)?!?!?

I'm sorry, but alienating a good portion of the existing fans with their crappy decision to scrap last-gen release is now only their second dumbest idea of the year, because the majority of the remainder have just been alienated, confused and trolled to Hell.

They've not just lost touch with the fanbase, but with reality. I mean i'm even sceptical of the decision to not include another female for the obvious sex appeal angle.

How were either of those decisions good for business?

You may or may not have considered also that sometimes casuals become hardcore fans. Further emphasising the need for both.

Just wanted to tell you guys I have some insider info, it's not much and it is subject to change but yeah -

Tri-Borg's variations aren't as linear as people think. Cyrax isn't just Cyrax, Sektor isn't just Sektor, his variations will take properties from certain cyborgs and combine them
Bo' Rai Cho's puke puddle is returning, and he will be receiving an old costume where he is a lot fatter. Probably MK:D
Leatherface is broken, probably will be balanced though
Alien will use his tail in kombat
