Street story was always a clusterfuck to me. I think it would be just as bad as MKX story. What I admire, is that Capcom focused FIRST on gameplay and online functionality, and LATER on story mode, which everybody would play once and get back to WORKING online.

Completely different approaches to narrative. Comparing SFV and MKX in story terms is like comparing an Opel to Ferrari in terms of how well they can represent the chassis colour blue.

Its possible that SFV's story could be better than MKX's but overall SF will never have better story/lore than MK, its characters and universe are too uninteresting compared to MK's as a whole IMO.

That's because SF hs focused on gameplay first, always. Why do you think nobody cares for 6/10 Mk games?

Street Fighter's story was never a focus for that series. It was enough to give a basic background to the point where you know enough about the characters but there was never a story focus. I'm curious to see what the touted Story Mode will be about, but I don't care enough. Street Fighter has always been the least interesting fighting game series to me. I loved it 25 years ago when I was playing SF2 in arcades, but I could care less about it. The characters and setting are, to me anyway, no where near as interesting as MK characters and settings.

I think SF knows story has never really been a priority but I commend them for trying. I can't wait to see Guile's reaction to FrankeNash, Chun-Li take down Shadaloo, and how Necalli fits into the game. So there's things I'm looking forward to in that story mode.

That said, I'm curious to see what the format will be and whether each character will be playable. If every character has a role and is playable in the story, it's better than MKX's by default.

Keep in mind I am talking about my personal opinion/taste and not presenting the following as fact.

With that said...yes that is true. They have always focused on gameplay first but I seriously doubt they can ever make their universe more (or even half as) interesting as MK's. Looking at what they have to work with in terms of characters, its going to be an up hill battle. Out of like 70+ characters they have like 10 characters that are interesting and/or have a decent design.

The rest are either uninteresting, look ridiculous, or both IMO.

I know this is probably coming off as haterish but im not a hater, but it is how I really feel opinion and part of why I have such a hard time getting into SF. I can't force myself to play a character I don't like in some way, and since most SF characters don't appeal to me, I have a hard time finding the motivation to play and try and get good and the games.

I'm with you - I actually DO like Street Fighter. I enjoyed SF4 when I got it, and while I have no real interest in SF5 I wouldn't mind at least renting it. A lot of work goes into SF and I appreciate that. The level of detail in the character animation and design (even if I loathe the art style) is impressive. But it will never remotely interest me. The story, setting, and most of all characters of MK are what draws me time and again. Even though I hated the 3D generation I was there, first in line, every time it released. I went to midnight release for MK9 and MKX, and will be there for MKXI. It's my favorite fighting game series, and one of my all-time favorite franchises period. I have a soft spot for SF because of the memories, but it'll never hold a candle.

I do hope the story mode is successful, and maybe even brings some things that MK can learn from. MK9/MKX redefined storytelling in fighting games, but that doesn't mean it can't learn new things. Let's see which franchise is the teacher, and which is the learner with this.

I bet my whole monthly paycheck that SF5's story mode will suck, but despite this a lot of people will claim it's better than MK X's story mode just for the sake of saying it.

Let's be real, I like SF but it barely has any actual story going on. It was never as tied in together as MK was.

Capcom's priorities are in the right place, NRS are not. At least SF always had great gameplay and you never expected anything from the story. MK has a great lore in general, but NRS always promised great stories and never really came through. I rather have a game where expectations are low on the story instead of a story full of inconsistencies and roster choices based on a story that is incoherent any way. Still, I don't even care about a story for SF, it just doesn't have one. MK has a way better story potential.

Exactly how I feel for the most part. I have nothing against it and I have tried again and again to get into it but I just can't really do it. Like you said, MK's characters, lore, setting and just general atmosphere are why I love MK so much, and SF just doesn't draw me in or interest me like MK does. I think that is why I was able to get into KI so easily too, it isn't exactly like MK, but its unique in that it has a more supernatural/fantasy vibe to it. Crazy characters, awesome stages, killer music etc. It has already shot up to my second favorite fighting franchise ever (MK will always be my #1 lol)

I don't even mind that SF looks animeish, I love manga/anime, but most of the characters still don't interest me outside of a handful. 2 of which are non canon/what if characters (Oni, Evil Ryu) and another handful that seem to be getting ignored/forgotten (Twelve, Necro, Q, Oro) so until SFV gets Juri, Ibuki, and Akuma...I probably won't have much motivation to play it lol

But yeah, I do think you and I are in a similar boat when it comes to SF lol

That's just an assumption on your part, especially since the game isn't even out yet. When the game comes out and you happen to favor Street Fighter V's story mode over MKX's story mode, good for you. However, making assumptions that SFV's story mode is automatically going to be better than MKX's story mode due to your distaste of the latter, is kind of silly.

Mk crew are just incompetent when it comes to making a story based on the lore...I mean look how well kittlesen did with the law in contrast to the games...it was fucking shameful.

I just think capcom as a company will put more thought and effort into it.

We all say how the so called story mode turned out in SF4 and crappy cartoon then a rival cartoon. That game looks like it has an art style for the Sega Dreamcast.

Really? I was under the impression MK is still widely regarded as the best video game movie adaptation and quite a cult classic.

As for the TV show, I'm assuming you're referring to Conquest and that's not even that bad either. It's on par with every other USA/TNT show of the times. Fits right in with what they were doing with the likes of Xena, Hercules and the like.

the Street Fighter 5 is guaranteed to be more coherent than MKX because as far as I know they're jumping around the timeline.The background info for most of the characters is solid enough to make a good story out of everything.
