Sonya's not that boring, she just needs to do a little more than just blowing kisses and breaking necks that's all. But the last 4 girls you mentioned are my favorites too. Mileena and Jade being the best ones ever!

I'm not surprised either ... I don't care that she's in the game, if anything I just take pleasure beating her with Kitana.

It's funny how Sonya and Kitana are like polar opposites.

Damn it! I've been away for too long! Now I've missed these leads lol. But hey, Sonya's back for more ass kicking, which is good news to me

Of course queve has stated about everything which is on his mind on Sonya's return already, lol. I've enjoyed reading through this thread and what features should be on. Now, the next thing I anticipate on is: When are they going to officially confirm MK9 is in the making?

@ MK9betterbegood:

Shame on you for saying Sonya is more boring than Nitara!!

Regarding the caps/baseball caps: I agree with you. I like them so much better than the beret, and with her new hairstyle it would look pretty cool.

Regarding the midriff, I can see why you find it unnecessary, but for me, it’s still a nice trademark of hers. True that it’s not entirely military-like, but like I’ve said countless of times I don’t have an issue with that, at all.

Regarding the FLC I actually like the second small pic better, because it allows more space/opportunities for a more unique and original design. I understand her MK4 gear was too small in comparison, but I would kind of like to see an improved designed of that along side a cool tactical belt instead of the huge FLC. Overall, the FLC is not an idea I dislike completely. I think it can work pretty well if not oversized like the first pictures.

Regarding her gloves, ok, this is the perfect example of our two different visions regarding this character and the military in general:

You envision Sonya in a much more realistic-military way (which is totally fine!), but I’m not going for that at all (which is fine as well).

I can understand why you’d feel this way though, considering you are in the military and all. You obviously have more knowledge about what would be more practical or real or believable in real-life military, and that’s what you expect from a character like this.

But, honestly, in this fantasy videogame, I don’t expect that kind of realism nor do I want it. Having those long cool gloves is not about “being practical”, at all. It’s not about Sonya feeling her arms “hot/irritated”. It’s not about whether they even exist in real military. It’s all about the look and feel of the character. I think that when we start thinking too deep into things like this, that’s when fans start taking certain elements a bit too seriously when its not really a big deal.

I’m someone who expects realism in this game, but not necessarily 90% realism, therefore, I find the long gloves to be a cool accessory that fits her nicely because they are well designed. There’s really no complains. It does give her a nice “futuristic” cool look. They fit her costume and play their part well (communication device, technological weapon, open portals/futuristic powers, etc.).

I don’t think about how smaller gloves would be more practical because we assume that the long ones are practical enough for her, ‘cause she is wearing them! In the end, they are practical for her cause she is wearing them, just like it’s practical (for some reason) for Hotaru to have flags on his back, or for Fujin to fight with super-duper long hair, or for Shang Tsung to have such an oversized robe, or for some females to fight in heels. You get my point?

Plus, smaller gloves like the pics posted only look simple and boring when compared to this new ones (don’t get me wrong, I loved the ones she’s used in the past, but after the nice design of MKvsDC, why would I want to see her go back to simple more “practical” gloves?). But maybe we could make this work out: Give her those Oakley gloves (pic you posted) but re-design/color them to look long/futuristic like the style of MKvsDC. You see, in a place where fire hits you from every side in every part of your body, having or not having fingerless gloves is not really something I end up thinking about.

I hope you know I mean no offence regarding the military with my comments, it’s just my personal opinion and I think its safe to assume the opinion of many other fans. More realistic would equal boring. We’ve seen this sort of complain in the past with other characters, even the ones from fantasy worlds.

In the end, this is definitely a matter of personal preference. You really want a more realistic and truthful military approach, mainly because of your experiences, while I don’t care about looking real or being practical as long as it looks nice and fits the character.

I care about a look that’s realistic enough to make me think “military” or “special agent’ or “solider”, but with a lot of “fantasy/futuristic” additions that make me go: “wow” or “cool”.

Finally, I once again agree with the knife/gun accessory. I love your posts and opinions man, I might not agree with many things, but its still a fun thing to read and debate about.

But when you are thinking about this kind of stuff, these kind of "disadvantages", that's when I think we are taking the thing more seriously than it should be, don't you think?

No, I don't think so. Just because Mortal Kombat is a video game series, especially one that has fantasy elements, doesn't mean that there can't or shouldn't be a sense of realism and logic. Kitana, Mileena, and Jade were highly-trained warrior assassins for thousands of years. I would think that such characters would have a good idea of what works and what doesn't work. Yes, I'm aware that they are meant for aesthetic purposes, but I feel that not only are they illogical and unrealistic, they are just plain unnecessary.

I still disagree with you.

If it all adds up to what’s more logical and what’s more practical in a world where you are fighting for your life against death and the most horrible things, than many characters would loose many elements of their designs that give them charm, spice, and that little/big spark of coolness/fantasy that we like and even love about them.

In the end, my honest opinion is that (just using the high heels as an example) its just as unnecessary for them to have them, as its just as unnecessary for me to worry about them being there in the first place, because they are not that big of a deal.

They don’t need the high heels to “look cool”, but the female ninjas are not going to look mega-different without them either. It’s not like its going to be a major improvement or anything. It’s really not that important, but again, that’s just my opinion and view, different from yours.

I’m glad Sonya has been semi confirmed. It’s really good to see her finally being recognized by the developers for the” Star “ that she is.

Her moves are fine in fact if they give her anymore she’d probably be a little overpowered, however I thought the Leg grabs execution and response time in MK vs DC was really slow and often more of a liability in Kombat. They should speed it up a bit or maybe change the button input to how it used to be in the past. Her energy rings, bicycle kick, cartwheel and kiss are perfect. If they were going to give her any new moves then they’d better bring back her flying kick (especially since it was featured in the animated mortal kombat short.)I know people are going to complain that it’s a replica of Liu Kang, but maybe they can spice it up a bit by changing the animation or instead of hitting the enemy away on impact, it can be manipulated into a sort of flying air grab.

I agree with everything you said expect on your Fly kick suggestion. That move is cool for Liu Kang but completely unnecessary for Sonya. It was nice to see what they were trying to do with Sonya by making her some form of “Liu Kang successor’/student”, but having copied/paste moves for any character is super lame and boring. The kick wasn’t that special in MKDA, even when she only had 2 moves and I hated that she had that instead of one of her other 7+ trademark attacks.

The whole idea of stripping the MKDA characters from their trademark attacks was stupid to begin with, but oh well, we thankfully moved on and the team KNOWS that was a lame move.

I would love to see Sonya retain most of her original trademark attacks, the awesome new ones she’s been given, and have at least 2 new special moves.

From her classic set she must keep:

The Leg Grab (also in air like in MK4)
The Ring Toss
The Vertical Bicycle kicks
The Cartwheel kicks

From her new awesome set she must keep:

The Kiss
The Air Vertical Bicycle Kicks

From her overall set she can loose:

The Fly Kick
The Fireball
The Square Wave Punch (even though I love it)

And give her at least 2 new special moves

1) Probably a cool leg grab or acrobatic attack.
2) A new magical attack like her rings and kiss.

Darkmage41 Wrote:If they were going to keep one thing from her MK:DA look, it would be to bring back her jacket, I thought that was one of the best accessories any MK character was granted in that game.

I loved the jacket too! However, if it is to return, I would prefer they made it smaller/more sleek. I thought I was going to miss the absence of her jacket in MKvsDC, but I was very happy with how nice she looked without it that I don’t mind if it’s scrapped again.

It just needs to be more sleek/smaller, imo.

Story wise the team is stuck in a rut and it doesn’t seem like they can salvage the games storyline let alone provide Sonya a role that is meaningful apart from her stale special forces storyline. Personally I would go back to basics, In the original game we knew why each fighter was competing and over the years that sense of purpose has disappeared, therefore coming up with a coherent objective for all the fighters would be ideal.
As far as Sonya is concerned I’ve always been fascinated with her twin brother Daniel who was supposedly killed, maybe they can delve deeper into that aspect or better yet they can probably bring Daniel back from the grave to torment her and bring out her weaknesses and vulnerability sounds really interesting. I’m never sick of Sonya and Kano therefore implicating Kano in her storyline is always a plus in my book.

I’d love to see some new development, and even though I love Kano, I do think its time for him to die and get separated from Sonya’s future storylines (even though he had absolutely nothing to do with her in all her recent games since MKDA).

I’d like more inside info regarding her twin and her murdered fiancé, but, I wouldn’t really like to see anyone else come back from the grave.

Well, it has been confirmed a long time ago that the game is on the making (they’ve got fatalities and the story mode voice actors done for example). I think you mean an official release date? Or when we will finally start getting teasers, trailers, pictures?

Hugs!!!
