UFC Ultimate Fighter Contestant Claims Comparison to Cassie Cage

International kickboxing champion turned MMA pro Felice Herrig believes her likeness is the inspiration behind Mortal Kombat X newcomer: Cassie Cage. IGN reports the UFC Ultimate Fighter Season 20 contestant made her claim in a tweet this week, sharing photographic comparisons via Instagram.

"After thorough investigation I think it's safe to say #MortalKombatX definitely used my likeness for the video game character #cassiecage"

Herrig directed her claim to series co-creator and Creative Lead Ed Boon, but doesn't appear to regard the assumption with malice. She responds to one fan, "lol. Nah it's all good. It's kinda cool. Especially since I love Cosplay & now I know want I'm gunna be for Halloween." Rival gaming icon Cammy White (Street Fighter) has been a Herrig cosplay favorite in the past.

Cassie was one of the new characters unveiled during E3 2014, last June. She is the offspring of klassic kombatants Johnny Cage and Sonya Blade, who were survivors of 2011 reboot storyline: Mortal Kombat. Since her debut, Cassie has been one of the less featured fighters, continuing to be a work in progress.

Interestingly; Cassie Cage will have a competitive mixed martial arts connection when she appears in the DC Comics tie-in series, written by Shawn Kittelsen. February solicitations reveal the second generation fighter finds herself in an illegal MMA deathmatch during issue #2.

In 2008. developers sparked wild speculation when they used modified MMA fighters as character stand-ins for Mortal Kombat versus DC Universe concept art.

Face Off: Cassie Cage vs Felice Herrig

Mortal Kombat Online isn't convinced the resemblance is strong enough to assert a "definite" likeness. Ironically, Herrig's choice of images don't make as strong a comparison as could be made. Even with a more generous line-up: key features (eyes, nose, hair) are notably different under scrutiny. Both are clearly kick ass blondes, but aside from superficial similarities, we have to say this one's a bust.

I feel like anybody that's unloading malice toward her didn't even read the article. Holy crap it's like the easiest thing in the world to do.

It's just like in NBA Hangtime where there was a default create-a-character that looked eerily similar to myself. I told people, obviously jokingly, "Hey they put me in/stole my likeness for the game!" It's exactly like that, except she has a public forum and a couple more people know who she is. She doesn't seem angry, doesn't seem to be threatening legal action, and moreover seems to just be more like her fangirling.

No she sued them, because she believed the developers mocked up a whole anatomic model of her. She was hired to lend her likeness to the game, but hackers/modders found full on nude model in the game's assets.:

As for the Cassie Cage/Felice Herrig, I can see similarities in the nose, lips and jawline, I still think it's a stretch to say she was the basis for Cassie cage though.

I'm not going to make an excuse for my post, despite that I really didn't say much of anything other than I don't see resemblance and hope this doesn't turn into the Lohan/Rockstar dispute.

However, I can see why others are derisive towards this. A lot of people, mainly the stars, tend to think they can just sue their problems away and get money out of everything because some character modelers decided to make a character that looks similar towards them. It's kind of silly. And in my opinion, stuff like that reminds me back to the case where this old woman decided to sue McDonalds because she spilled hot coffee on her and won.

Despite that I highly doubt these people would really win, hell, Lindsey I don't think has successfully gotten Rockstar to court over this issue, it's still a bit of an annoyance. Whether if the "star" themselves are doing the finger pointing, or if it's by the fans. I checked that page where she states about how Boon "stole her looks," and more of her fans seem to be ticked off about it more than her.

Granted that she's all good about this and isn't really going to turn it into a hissy fit, still...

And like I brought up before, some idiot activist tried doing this to Midway back when they had Armageddon out. Jack Thompson, our beloved video game villain (despite he's not one) tried to take Midway to court because he somehow heard that you could actually make him in their create a fighter mode. Nothing happened, they literally brushed this issue off their shoulder. That's how I feel if more and more people here tend to think they can easily sue a company like this because they so happen to "steal" a face.

Unless you're Nicholas Cage in a prison, then all bets are off.

Actually, from what I've gotten from reading some of these posts, they're more so saying that they don't see the resemblance. You might think that she's not the one to look like the suing type, but one never knows with the amount of stupidity that runs in this country.

I don't think she will, and I certainly hope not because it would be pretty foolish and stupid of her to try to do something like that. Whether people read the article or not, it's not a bad thing to assume stuff. People do that here all the time with Ed's Tweets and rumors, what's so different about this one?

On another note:

I apologize for I was wrong about something. The whole Jack Thompson didn't quite "sue" Midway, he wrote a letter to "cease and dismiss" Armageddon. Of course they ignored the letter.

She was cool about it, I'm not hating on her "hey that's me" comments. I don't see the resemblance though. Maybe the side view but a profile view is easy to match and the shaved sides are common. She looks nothing like cartoony Cassie imo lol. Although cage was a parody of somebody too so...

Not a fan of the "likeness tax" is all, thats why I prefer exaggerated characters. it's only going to get worse the more realistic graphics get. Everyone is going to have Troy baker face. I'd rather NRS faces.

It's obvious that they were trying so hard to make her look like Felice Herring!

I think the people who bitch about NRS' facial modeling should have their man certificate ripped to shreds right in front of them.

& I wish they just call it Mixed Combat Sport, because there is nothing martial arts about violently assaulting your opponent while they're already on the ground. The stand up knockouts are the only good thing I can say about this cage fighting garbage.

WTF is wrong with some of y'all? There's an obvious resemblance. It's not like MK has ever gotten inspiration from martial artists and celebrities for their characters before. Johnny Cage- Jean Claude, Kung Lao- Jet Li, Liu Kang- Bruce Lee. It might be a stretch to say she's the inspiration but I'm seeing a small stretch cuz she's obviously a badass in her own right and she's hardly fucking ugly. Just a good looking chick who's gotten her nose broke more than once in her life. She's got no ill will toward it and seems to think its cool so calm your hatin asses down
