Nice thread, I also really miss the tournament aspect of the story. Even the tourny in MK9 didn't last that long and had really awkward pacing and weird matches (2 vs 1???). I feel like they could easily make it about a tournament tho with dark Raiden challenging another realm to a tournament. They just gotta retcon the 10 tourny's in a row every hundred years aspect of the story or make all their "mortal" kombatants immortal. I mean its not like NRS gives a flying fuck about retconing the story.

To be honest tho I'm not too excited for whatever NRS comes up with storywise unless they get new writers. MKX story mode was okay (much better than MK9 at least) but the arcade endings were lame as were most of the character's back stories.

Now I really support the idea of 2 Tournaments happening at the same time.

Raiden invading OutWorld and Liu Invading Earthrealm.

While Raiden uses the Shirai Ryu to conquer outworld, those who don ́t agreed with Raiden about invading another realm (maybe JC, Sonya and the newbies) would defend Earth from Liu and his revenants.

In the Middle of that Plot.

Shang Tsung could revive and even help Earth (if he doesn ́t have any bounds with Shao Khan ́s magic, Shang ́s victories would be for Earth since it is his original realm) and later betray everyone and etc, etc..

Also Kitana could have plans with Outworld in order to Free Edenia.

And for the big ending, Maybe the return of the Dragon King.

Good points. There are several possible invasion scenarios set up.
It never occurred to me Kitana might try taking Outworld.
Most people assume Raiden would, in a reversal of what`s been going on. Or invade the Netherrealm to eliminate any possible threats.

Raiden taking over Outworld to prevent it from taking over Earthrealm would end the same as Shao Kahn`s plans.
Merging the realms to prevent them from being merged...
That would still merge the realms. Invading seems to be okay though.
Portals may be hidden secrets, but apparently anyone can just walk through them anytime, for any reason.

If the Elder Gods don`t want the realms merged, why was Shao allowed to merge them to begin with? Was Onaga merging realms into Outworld before Shao?

Between the Movies, snd MK9, there`s a lot of konfusion about Sindel`s role in the story.

WTF was Sindel`s Ward? Why did she commit suicide in Earthrealm? Does it only prevent Shao Kahn, himself from physically entering the realm?

In MK3 Sindel was purposly reborn on Earth so Shao Kahn could enter Earthrealm to claim her, should Earthrealm win MK stopping him.

What exactly is going on with her?

Ok I will tell you....

I think the series went to shit AT mk3, not after...it redeemed its self in terms of art/direction/story at deadly alliance....But taking it to the modern world with earthrealm invasion just killed it, it took away the dark oriental theme, and the tournament aspect....adding a fat cop, stupid robots....it just got stupid.... the game its self was lazy, the fatalites, the floating limbs, arcade machines dropping on people,jax growing into a giant? ehhh it was just SHIT on every level...

Anyway, it was fixed and the best story line EVER was killing liu kang in DA...then we get the reboot, that could fix up everything and pave teh way for something amazing....while I sitll hated the mk3 aspect, i could deal with it, and it could again pave way for the next game and be amazing....But what did we get....

a game set 25 years in the future...still not another tournament, with the worst fucing characters EVER .... A comic that was better than the games story...the game should been based on that....but it was a shitty convoluted plot to include the fuckin SF kids...it was terrible... I could write a better plot right now off the top of my head, fuck the games plot off....

ok so mk9 ends....The game shoulda been about who earth realm is goin to cope and overcome after losing so many of its warriors, as shinnok an quanchi have set their sites on earthrealm after he has been freed...outworld during the civil war, must over come an forge an alliance with earthrealm under the new rule of kotal to battle shinnok.... simple dot points

1. EVERYONE who died in mk9 should have stayed dead to shape this grim future, but no we got liu kang again and kung loa as revenants but playable humans in the game? wtf WASTE

2. The shira ryu should have been re-established, not destroyed AGAIN...forrest fox should have been a character, along with takeda...but kenshi should have sat it out....just made a cameo of drooping takeda off...fox should have been corrupted..one of his vartations could of even reflected that and the variation would have his face cut off.... .This way you could have had 3 shirai ryu members in the game, and even made a clan for it..

2. subzeros and the lin kue, his story should have been reforming the lin keu and removing the cyber inititave shit, but no he just fights the kids...she should have freed smoke, hed be an enera, and have different new lin kue characters, that way there would be more then one link kue member justifying it having a clan...currently there is ONE...SZ

3. Red and black dragon were huge parts of the comic story...but we have NO exra red or black dragon members in the game...tis could have been a perfect op to include new characters . but no....

4. the civil was was not covered at all, it should have been, baraka shold have been involved with mileena as her right hand, with reiko thinking hes incontrol, in the war against kotal, making rain, reiko and braka playable with mileena.

5. the new characters were a fucking joke, save ferra/torr , kotal, devorah and takeda....If johnny and sonya were both playable, cassie was pointless, if cassie is playble both parents i game is pointless ....jax died...he should have stayed dead....having him and his daughter POINTLESS...jacqiue was shit...but if she had to be there jax did not...its too much family shit...same with kung jin...

all in all story should have been about key play building bridgges an exploring their personal goals or grudges and working through the civil war to over come the neatherrealm.....

the roster was the worst part of the game......it should have been about the survivors and new people....

The Elder Gods are not omnipotent. Shao Kahn and Onaga were almost as powerful as them. I don't think the Elder Gods have been around that long, probably a couple of hundred thousand years, MAYBE millions. That's not that long in the grand scheme of things. The universe is 11 billion years old.
It would be nice to see their story once, how they became the Elder Gods. Supposedly they destroyed the One Being to create the realms, but if that's the case, then they have to have lived somewhere in order to co-exist at the same time with the One Being. Were Heaven and the Netherrealm created by other forces, existing even before the Elder Gods that we know of?
It would make a nice story.




Sindel's ward indeed prevented Shao Kahn from entering Earthrealm even if he had won 10 MKs. She knew powerful spells from her position as Queen of Edenia and chose to give up everything and even her child after she had seen the horrors Shao Kahn's conquest brings upon. She thought she could save Earthrealm.

Because the fans wanted them back, and I doubt they pieces of shit. Don't you know how upset some fans were when they were killed in MK 9? Fans went crazy on the forums, and even made videos on YouTube demanding they came back in the next game. But it doesn't make sense that they come back in human form when they are dead in the story mode, I agree with you there.

the wealth of mk4 an post mk4 characters that could have been put into the game matching the comic story would have been amazing....and its so simple and fans woulda loved it...

remove jax, LK, KL, jacqui, kenshi, kitana, kung jin, sonya....

replace with, reiko, baraka, forest fox, havik, enenra smoke, a new red dragon member, if not movado, and it all makes so much more sense...and provides a much better story....

Haven't read thru the thread, but responding in my opinion to the topic.

The 'tournament' component of mk was my favorite part about the series. It was something that tied all the characters together, and added suspense to see who would prevail, and added incentive and a role for each character participating.

I do wish they would return to the tournament storyline at least every other game or too, so I hope to see another one in the future.

Me too, that's one thing I loved about the MK series was the tournament feeling

People have already pointed out that the story is possibly setting up new tourneys if Raiden acts against Outworld or Liu marches Netherrealm to either Earth or Outworld.

Mortal Kombat will never be about Mortal Kombat again.
It will be about Sub-Zero and Human Scorpion drinking tea together and Netherrealm Studios will make a million billion dollars. It's all about comic books and cinematic universe. The game is a side show now.

The last actual Tournament was MK 2. From 3 on its been all out war of Raiden's Forces vs Villain of the game's forces.

This can be said in general when it comes to MK stuff.
