The newest MKX trailer is a step back especially for the younger Sub Zero but not to Scorpion. Artistically adding a freezing aura that reaches to nearby trees and the like to Sub Zero's design acts as a glorifying display of ice crystal formations and freezing capabilities. In previous trailers, the ground that Sub Zero walked on plus his frozen exhalations was the entirety of his cold bodily emissions. Now he chills everything within the nearby vicinity? Why does Scorpion get a couple of embers here and there but Sub Zero has no control over his element of cold? As a stealthy ninja he does not want to alert foes with a sudden drop in room temperature much like Death's presence would introduce if he was knocking at your door to claim your soul. Kuai Liang or Bi Han should have full control of their magic and not make unnecessary freezing of random environments; I would expect this from Frost freezing unintentionally but not from any Sub Zero. Making others uncomfortable is Havik and Chaosrealm's ideology and is not fitting for any Sub Zero when it comes to their character personality. There are other personalities or people who can show off particle effects like Smoke or Tremor but I always preferred Sub Zero's direct attacks using compact ice ball projectiles. I don't like that the freezing projectile mostly dissipates in a cloud that goes around the body of Scorpion because I feel that it has lost the level of impact it once had. I want a projectile hit from Sub Zero to go like a freak hailstorm battering a person from afar.

I should have explained myself better. My main points are that Sub Zero is cold just for the sake of being cold. He gains no advantage from terraforming the land around him. He is not at an advantage by having more grip on an icy slippery surface nor is he rendering Scorpion to gasp for breath for merely standing near him. Make Sub Zero's presence very cold with functionality or just a bit cold for show. He should not be a passive phenomena like everyday fog on the windshield. I am saying there are disparities in the trailer. We see him emitting cold but it does not impact the fight. We see his projectile flash freezing Scorpion only to not have an emphasis on creating an ice barrier. There is a cloud lingering around Scorpion which reminds me of Rain's "Aqua Blast". Sub Zero emphasizes flash freezing and Rain uses pressurized water; there should be no leftover clouds from Sub Zero's attack as he does not utilize ice pressure.

For me, Sub-Zero was at his best in MK2 and MK3. After that, he went to shit...sigh.
Looks interesting in MKX however. Can NRS redeem Sub-Zero (in this case, it's Bi-Han)?

Throughout the MK Saga, Sub-Zero has been in every MK fighting game and Scorpion has not.

Why should Sub Zero even be "redeemed" in the first place?

Redeemed to back how great he was back in MK2 and MK3. Besides, Sub-Zero is better the Scorpion, Reptile and Human Smoke.

Ehh I don't know about him being the "best" character. But he's cool, no pun intended.

Obviously you mean something other than gameplay, because the ninjas sucked in MK2. And the MK3 visual design was horrible. Then again, Trilogy was so 90's that if you could cut it, it would probably bleed energy drinks.

They should have stayed with the MK2 Sub-Zero face.
