The OIA partly supplanted the role of the Special Forces in the Mortal Kombat universe after Shao Kahn's failed invasion of Earth and the subsequent destruction of the Black Dragon crime cartel. Though it is focused on exploration of other realms, in truth it is more military in nature. The storyline of Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance suggests that the OIA has special agents on most known realms to identify possible threats to Earthrealm. The OIA also keeps track of known portals that lead from and to Earthrealm. To open them, it uses "science, rather than magic", as Jax's ending states in Mortal Kombat 3.

In the events leading up to Mortal Kombat 3 and its spin-offs, Sonya and Jax attempted to warn their government about the impending Outworld threat, but their words fell on deaf ears. Shao Kahn's invasion of Earthrealm began uncontested, and he claimed almost every soul on Earth for his own. Jax and Sonya were among a few survivors whose souls were protected, selected by the Elder Gods to fight for their world's freedom. The Earth warriors, led by Liu Kang, were successful.

After Kahn's defeat, Sonya and Jax's superiors were convinced of the potential threat other worlds could bring. The two were given clearance to form the Outerworld Investigation Agency (OIA), a subsidiary of the Special Forces, whose job it would be to protect Earthrealm from extradimensional threats. The newly-founded organization would proceed to destroy ancient inter-dimesional portals leading to Earthrealm, and in the years to come, they would add two particular members of interest to their ranks: The former Lin Kuei cyber ninja Cyrax, and the rogue swordsman Kenshi.

During the events of Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance, the OIA met with catastrophe. Hsu Hao, a Red Dragon spy who had infiltrated the Special Forces, entered the agency's underground bunker and activated an Ion Pulse bomb as he escaped, utterly destroying the OIA headquarters, and preventing any further travel to other realms. The Red Dragon felt the OIA to be a threat after its prime purpose had been served: the destruction of the Black Dragon.

The future of the OIA is uncertain for the time being. Jax and Sonya are currently free from their servitude to Onaga by the efforts of Liu Kang and Ermac, and have since returned to Earthrealm. After returning as well, Kenshi retired from the OIA, since he only joined it to make easier his hunt for Shang Tsung, who now he believes to be dead

Cyrax has since been returned to Earthrealm by Nitara, but his current status is not known.

-SONYA Debuted in the first Mortal Kombat, Lieutenant Sonya Blade is a member of a top United States Special Forces unit, member of the Outer World Investigation Agency and the only chosen female warrior from Earthrealm ever since the first game. Her impulsiveness is catalyzed by her superior and good friend Major Jackson "Jax" Briggs. Sonya represents a very emancipated and headstrong woman, but for all her stubbornness and pride, she deeply cares about the lives of her friends and comrades. Johnny Cage, her fellow Earthrealm warrior and friend, seems to view her as a romantic interest, but there has been no indications of her feelings for him. She has a long-standing enmity with the thug Kano, who stands for everything Sonya despises.
Storyline Sonya and her team were in hot pursuit of Kano, the leader of the Black Dragon organization. After he jumped onto a ship, they followed him to a remote island where Shang Tsung's Mortal Kombat tournament was being held. Upon arriving they were ambushed by Tsung's personal guard. To keep her team safe, she agreed to compete in the tournament. Shang Tsung, however, had no intention of fulfilling his end of the bargain. He had her unit killed and, after he was defeated by Liu Kang, took her and Kano prisoner to Outworld to appease the emperor, Shao Kahn.
Sonya was able to send a signal to her superior Jax from Outworld, however, and during the events of Mortal Kombat II he traveled there to find her. Jax made contact with the other Earthrealm warriors, and together they learned of Kahn's scheme to invade Earth. She was later freed and Kano arrested, but as soon as they had passed through the portal to Earth, Kano escaped and ran back into Outworld.
Sonya and Jax now had other things on their minds, however. They tried to warn the United States government of the impending invasion, but their claims went unheeded. As such, they began preparing by themselves for the coming invasion. When the fateful day finally came, Shao Kahn stripped Earthrealm of all human souls, with the exception of a few chosen warriors, one of which was Sonya, who would soon encounter her old nemesis Kano on top of a skyscraper near Kahn's fortress. A fierce battle was waged between the two. Kano gained the upper hand, and kicked Sonya onto a stone gargoyle. Sonya feigned defeat, but when Kano advanced to finish Sonya off, grabbing her by the hair, she performed her most infamous special move: the leg grab, and hurled Kano off the roof to his apparent death, taking a lock of her hair with him.
After her journey into Outworld and Shao Kahn's near destruction of Earth, Sonya became a member of Earth's own Outer World Investigation Agency. The Black Dragon kept crossing her path, however. Its last known member, Jarek, had fled to Edenia while Sonya was chasing him. This lead Sonya and Jax to team up with Raiden and Liu Kang to free that realm from the Fallen Elder God Shinnok's grasp, and to prevent him from coming to Earth. After Shinnok's defeat, in which Jarek had reluctantly participated to save himself, Jarek tried to kill Sonya, but Jax intervened and dropped him off a cliff. It was presumed that Jarek had been killed. After returning to Earthrealm, Jax and Sonya found Cyrax malfunctioning in a desert. The two brought the cyborg back to the OIA headquarters where they were able to restore Cyrax's humanity. In return, Cyrax joined the agency.

Sonya fighting Kitana (in MK: Shaolin Monks)Years later, Sonya would once again heed Raiden's call, this time to travel to Outworld after the Deadly Alliance had slain Shao Kahn and Liu Kang. For Sonya, this coincided with her search for two missing OIA agents, Cyrax and Kenshi. She was unable to find them, however, and was killed in battle with the Deadly Alliance (she Cage and Jax were overwhelmed by the Deadly Alliance's Tarkartan forces). The Deadly Alliance's victory was short-lived, as Onaga had entered the scene just moments after their victory over Raiden himself, and reclaimed Outworld, as well as the amulet. With his ability to raise the dead at will, he resurrected and enslaved Sonya and her fallen comrades. As Sonya and her comrades appear normal in Mortal Kombat: Armageddon, it is likely that Ermac and the spirit of Liu Kang had freed them from Onaga's control.
In Mortal Kombat: Armageddon, Sonya returns to Earth after Onaga's defeat, with the intention of continuing her assault on both Red and Black Dragon clans, only to be forced to focused on the newly-established threat of the Tekunin. In her absence, the Tekunin had grown large enough to disrupt Earth civilization and had violated Earthrealm law by engaging in illegal interrealm alliances with unknown parties, a combination which forces Sonya to divert all the resources of the Special Forces against them. Early in their battle, Sonya seems to get an unexpected break when the Tekunin's flagship - helmed by their Grandmaster Sektor himself - is seen above the Botan Jungle, and succeeds in downing it. However, when she sends a team lead by her partner Jax in to hunt for survivors, they mysteriously vanish and are presumed to be captured by the Tekunin, Jax's own cybernetic bioscanners sending anomalous readings before contact is lost. With little options left to find out Sektor's plans and otherrealm connections, she tracks the signal of a homing beacon placed on Taven by Sektor before his escape, and eventually confronts him in Arktica. She tries to get information out of him about Sektor and the Tekunin, but they soon engage in battle after Taven refuses to comply. Sonya limps away after she is ultimately beaten, warning him that she'll be watching him.
In her Armageddon ending, Sonya defeats Blaze, who offers her any power she chooses. When Kano arrives at the scene, she glares at him and turns him into a pile of ash. She then destroys all of the Black Dragon and Red Dragon clan members.

Combat characteristics
Signature moves Energy Rings: Sonya clangs her wrists together and send out rings like whirlwind fireballs that would hit the opponent exploding and leaving rain-like drops of magical energy in the ground that would dissolve. (MK, MK3, UMK3, MKT) Leg Grab: Sonya does a handstand and grab her opponent with her feet and slam them on the ground. (MK, MK3, UMK3, MKT, MK4, MKG) Square Wave Punch / Face Planter: Sonya takes off into the air and flies across the screen with a punch to anyone who was in the air. This attack was given to Kitana also in the later games.(MK, MK3, UMK3, MKT, MK4, MKG, MK:A) Inverted Bicycle Kick: Sonya performs a counter-air attack rising into the air with a series of vertical kicks. (MK3, UMK3, MKT, MK4, MKG) Air Leg Throw: Using her legs, she tosses the opponent to the ground from the air. (MK4, MKG) Cartwheel Kick: Sonya performs a cartwheel at her opponent kicking them on impact. (MK4, MKG) Kiss of Death: Sonya blows a poisonous mystical kiss that would stun/blind the opponent temporarily. This move was translated from her Kiss of Death fatality as a move, and was given to Kira in Mortal Kombat: Deception. (MK:DA, MK:A) Armed Forces: Sonya shoots a purple projectile at her opponent. This attack was later given to Kira in Deception, while she does this attack after crouching, in a similar way to Tanya's MK4 projectile. Sonya also crouches before releasing the projectile in Armageddon, similar to Kira. (MK4, MKG, MK:A) Flying Boots: Sonya delivers a flying kick to her opponent. This move is borrowed from Liu Kang. (MK:DA, MK:A)
Recurring fatalities Kiss of Death: Sonya kills her opponent by blowing them a kiss. In first and third Mortal Kombat games, her kiss takes the form of a ball of fire, burning her opponent alive. In Mortal Kombat 3, another derivation of this fatality could be seen, in which the kiss takes the form of a purple orb, crushing the opponent and leaving behind a pile of blood and bones. In Mortal Kombat 4, the kiss returned in a different fashion; the kiss takes a form of an energy ball and slices the opponent from half. In Deadly Alliance, the kiss takes the form of a purple poisonous mist, which makes her opponent choke and vomit out organs, food and blood. This fatality has been Sonya's trademark fatality ever since the first game. In the second movie, the kiss is performed with the aid of an explosive chemical. (MK, MK3, UMK3, MKT, MK4, MKG, MK:DA)
Appearance Sonya's hair color is blond and she has bright/electric blue eyes. She looks tough, athletic and is one of the tallest female characters in Mortal Kombat.
Unlike many other female Mortal Kombat characters, Sonya does not wear provocative clothes or dressing that reveals her body, while there are minor factors that make up for her sex appeal. In Deadly Alliance, her lingerie can be seen outside, and in Shaolin Monks, she has a belly button piercing.
Sonya has been involved in all MK games as either a playable or a non-playable character, and she is the most recurring female Mortal Kombat character. She had always received a new and different look throughout the games that she had been playable:
In the first Mortal Kombat, she simply had a green outfit with short hair, headband and earrings. She kept this look in Mortal Kombat II, most likely because her appearance was a cameo. In MK3/UMK3/MKT, she still wore a green spandex outfit, but it has been improved and expanded with black and white stripes. She also had a gypsy belt, tennis shoes and white socks. Her hair is changed to a long ponytail. In MK4/Gold, she had a new green top with black pants, and she replaced the headband with a cap. In Deadly Alliance, she was given a military outfit, a completely new and improved look when compared to her other appearances. She wore a jacket, a tight torn shirt, tight pants, and black boots. In Shaolin Monks, she received a new look that was mainly inspired by her Deadly Alliance outfit; her jacket was more simple and dark brown, but her tight black shirt and military-like pants are completely new. She again had her hair as a ponytail. She was also given a belly button piercing. In Armageddon, she kept her Deadly Alliance appearance.

Appearance in other media
Film Sonya appears in both Mortal Kombat movies as one of the leading characters, both times played by a different actress. In the first movie, played by Bridgette Wilson, she first defeats many of Shang Tsung's guards in a battle alongside Johnny Cage and Liu Kang. Later she defeats and kills Kano with a variation of her Leg Grab special move (noted as a variation because the Leg Grab is practically impossible to perform in real life), by grabbing his neck in a headscissors and twisting it. This is her only solo fight in the movie. Shang Tsung has a certain "attraction" towards Sonya during most of the film, but she uses sarcasm and rudeness to stop the sorcerer's advances. Even though she repeatedly rebufs Johnny's advances, she later becomes attracted to him.
In the second movie, played by Sandra Hess, Sonya manages to fight more characters than the rest of the cast. She first faces Shao Kahn when he knocks her to the ground but is soon released after Johnny Cage tries to save her, resulting in his death. Sonya expresses remorse for his death but seems to forget about him by the end of the film. She later defeats a rather large group of Shao Kahn's extermination squad assassins and in the same fight she kills Cyrax with her trademark Fatality, the Kiss of Death. Later she defeats Mileena in a one on one battle and in the final battle she faces both Ermac and Noob Saibot (the latter of whom is erroneously spawned from the former). While Jax deals with Noob offscreen, she defeats Ermac with another Leg Grab variation (this time resembling a hurricanrana) and breaks his neck to finish him.

Television Sonya is a lead character in the animated series Mortal Kombat: Defenders of the Realm. Her vendetta against Kano is explained (Kano killed her partner and friend), though it is stated she won a fight against him during the first Mortal Kombat. Sonya has an important role during episode 7 Fall from Grace, where due to her arrogance she ends up causing Stryker to get wounded and he strips her of her rank, though she later regains Stryker's trust. It is also interesting to note that she plays important roles in almost all the episodes; Sonya was given more attention than the rest of the cast in the TV series. It is also revealed that Sonya had a friend named Maggie when she was a child; Maggie ended up in a wheelchair and Sonya protected her from the other kids' insults and taunts.

Comic books
Malibu comic Battlewave issue 6, Sonya is one of the main characters of the Malibu Comics series. Her portrayal is faithful to the games, but ventures so far as to give its own origin to her rivalry with Kano. Sonya appears during the Blood & Thunder series in hot pursuit of Kano alongside her partner Lance/Sparky. The pursuit leads the three of them into the Mortal Kombat tournament, and they decide to participate to catch up with Kano. Lance is the first to fight him, receiving a gruesome death from Kano's heart-ripping fatality. Sonya cannot contain herself and proceeds to beat down Kano in rage until Goro stops her and chains her in the dungeons of the palace. Sonya spends the later half of the series wandering Outworld with Johnny Cage, and confronting a twisted version of herself called Aynos: a mirror image of her, but born in Outworld and the opposite in personality. At the conclusion of the series, she is able to capture Kano, though he is freed a short time later by his superiors in the Black Dragon gang.
In the second series, Battlewave, Sonya starts an investigation after Jax is found brutally beaten. Convinced that only someone from Outworld could inflict such wounds on Jax, she ventures into Shang Tsung's island only to be ambushed and captured by Kintaro. Sonya later plays an important role in Shao Kahn's plan: she is brainwashed by Reptile into marrying the emperor, and the alliance is able to weaken the barriers between realms enough to allow Shao Kahn to conquer Earthrealm, with Sonya herself as his wife and queen. During the wedding ceremony, though, the Earthrealm warriors stop the ceremony and Sonya is able to break from the trance by herself.
The comics strongly suggest a love interest between her and Johnny Cage, an idea later brought into the games.

Character development Sonya is the first female character to appear in the Mortal Kombat franchise. She was partially inspired by the karate champion and movie actress Cynthia Rothrock; and was named after one of Boon's sisters, as confirmed in a video interview in the special edition of Deception.
trivia Sonya almost didn't make it into Mortal Kombat. Originally, Kurtis Stryker, who later debuted in MK3 (although, at the time, the name was given to the character who would eventually be called Jax in MKII) used her storyline, but he was dropped and Sonya created to add a female character to an otherwise all-male cast.
MK4's model of Sonya Blade resembles the model Bridgette Wilson, who played Sonya Blade in the first MK movie. She could also have been inspired by Kerri Hoskins.
Originally, Mortal Kombat: Special Forces was to have both Jax and Sonya as playable characters; however, Sonya's part was dropped due to deadline issues. In early shots of Special Forces at the time when Sonya was still in the game, it listed her code name as "Panther". In the first movie, her code name is mentioned as "BlackHawk".

Game information According to her profile in the Official Mortal Kombat comic and instruction manual, her known relatives are Major Herman Blade (father), Erica Blade (mother), and Daniel Blade (twin brother, deceased).
Sonya and Kano were the first MK3 characters to be confirmed.
In her ending in Mortal Kombat 3, there is a typo with the word "possible" being spelled "posible".
-JAX (MAJOR JACKSON BRIGGS)
Jax was the first African American character in the Mortal Kombat series and made his debut in the second game. He is portrayed as an archetypical American hero. In the chain of command of the Special Forces, he is Sonya Blade's direct superior and clearly the counterbalancing force of Sonya's impulsiveness. Jax is clear-headed, careful, and always keeping a watch on what his men are doing. When the need arises, he is a beast on the battlefield with the attitude and ferocity of a lion. He unscrupulously makes use of the most advanced technology to improve both himself and his unit.

Storyline Jax made his first chronological appearance in Mortal Kombat II, though, in terms of the storyline, his first adventure is depicted in Mortal Kombat: Special Forces. This game opened depicting a prison break at Special Forces' detention facility. Jax, driving along a highway, received a transmission from his fellow Special Forces operative Gemini detailing the escape and the escapees: No Face, Tasia, Jarek and Tremor. She informed him that they had escaped to a warehouse on the town's south side, likely receiving assistance from an outside source. Jax surmised that source to be Kano. He received another transmission from one Lieutenant Sanchez, whose squad had arrived at the warehouse. After the transmission was cut off at the source, Jax arrived at the scene to find the squad destroyed. For this, he swore he would achieve vengeance against Kano. Using prototype bionic implants on his arms in order to enhance his strength, Jax set out to find his enemy.
Infiltrating the warehouse, Jax confronted No-Face and dispatched him. Proceeding into the sewers, he did likewise to Tasia. At this point, Gemini contacted Jax again and informed him that the Black Dragon were using a corporate building as a front for their base of operations. At the building, Jax confronted and defeated Jarek. His investigation then led him to the town of the lost city of Sin Kiang. There, he defeated Tremor and discovered a portal to Outworld. Surmising that the portal was linked to Kano's plans of global domination, he entered. Jax caught up with Kano, who had acquired an artifact called the Eye of Shitian. Through this artifact, Kano could acquire great power. After an exchange of words, the two fought and Jax emerged the victor. He used the Eye's power to bring them both back to Earthrealm and brought Kano into custody, only to have the criminal escape at a later date. At this point, Jax ceased using his bionic implants.
Jax's first appearance on a fighting game was in Mortal Kombat II. Jax first came across the Earthrealm warriors when he found Johnny Cage in the waters close to the Special Forces Agency. Jax began interrogating him. Cage explains his story and although is not trusted at first, is eventually set free. Jax doesn't believe the story of Johnny Cage until he receives a video signal from Sonya, whom is temporarily working with Kano to escape the Outworld. As an apology for Jax not believing Cage, he visits him at a commercial shoot where Johnny is being attacked. Jax participates in a short battle with Kintaro here. The battle is interrupted when the Earthrealm warriors arrive to help. After they save Johnny from the intruders, they travel into Outworld to compete in the tournament and save Sonya. Soon Jax came to learn of the Emperor's dark plans for Earthrealm. As soon as he had freed Sonya (and inadvertently Kano), he headed back home to warn his government of the impending danger. He would find himself frustrated, however, as not only did Kano escape back into Outworld, but the government did not believe the major.
Jax began to prepare for war covertly and once more outfitted his arms with bionic implants. After helping foil Shao Kahn's attempt to permanently claim Earth as his own, Jax became the commanding officer of the Outer World Investigation Agency (OIA). They operated from an underground bunker and had scouts in various realms. Not only did they explore and map these realms, but they also looked for and destroyed inter-realm portals that could lead to Earth.
He briefly assisted Raiden in the defeat of Shinnok after he found out that Sonya was in Edenia. It was during these events that both he and Sonya would find the Lin Kuei cyborg Cyrax, malfunctioning and trapped in a desert. Returning with him to their home base, they reversed the automation process, restored his humanity, and gained a new ally.
Years later, trouble would occur again. Not only were his agents Kenshi and Cyrax lost in Outworld, but the OIA underground facility was nuked into oblivion by the traitor Hsu Hao. When, soon after, Raiden summoned the Earthrealm warriors to the abandoned island of Shang Tsung and asked them to travel with him to Outworld to bring down the Deadly Alliance, Jax didn't hesitate. He used this trip as a cover to track down Hsu Hao and kill him by tearing out his artificial heart.
During the final attack on the Deadly Alliance, Jax along with the other Earthrealm warriors were killed (He, Sonya and Johnny Cage were overwhelmed by the Deadly Alliance's Tarkartan warriors). After Onaga defeated Raiden and the Deadly Alliance, he resurrected Jax and his Earthrealm friends as his slaves. Jax returns in Mortal Kombat: Unchained, and it is revealed that Jax is saved, thanks to the efforts of Ermac and the spirit of Liu Kang, as shown in Ermac's Deception ending. Jax also returned in Mortal Kombat: Armageddon.
In his ending for Unchained, he brutally pounded Onaga senseless (Shujinko failed despite absorbing Jax's fighting styles but lacking the raw anger needed) his strength propelled by unexplained rage. As an encore, he embedded the Netherrealm Kamidogu in the Dragon King's head.
Sonya's Mortal Kombat:Armageddon biography briefly mentions Jax as being part of a search team deployed by her to search for survivors after destroying a Tekunin warship. Jax disappears afterwards, with Sonya assuming that he had been captured, noting that his arms' bioscanners were giving her strange readings about his health before winking out entirely.
In his ending for Mortal Kombat: Armageddon, Jax becomes a full cyborg after defeating Blaze, and leaves the Special Forces. He then takes control of the Tekunin by defeating Sektor, an apparent act of revenge after discovering a neural control chip implanted in his brain by the Tekunin leader. The ending also states that, after this, it is unknown if Jax would ever return to the Special Forces.
Combat characteristics
Signature moves Ground Pound: Jax punches the ground, shaking the arena and causing the opponent to stagger. (MKII, MK3, UMK3, MKT, MK4, MKG, MK:SF, MK:DA, MK:U, MK:SM, MK:A) Back Breaker: Jax grabs the opponent down on his shoulder, cracking their spine (MKII, MK3, UMK3, MKT, MK4, MKG) Gotcha!: Jax grabs his opponent by the neck and delivers a punch to the face. (MKII, MK3, UMK3, MKT, MK:SM) Multi-Slam: Jax quickly performs his standard throw four times. (MK3, UMK3, MKT, MK4, MKG) Dash Punch: Jax lunges at the opponent, fist first. (MK3, UMK3, MKT, MK4, MKG, MK:SF) Single Missile: Jax fires a blast from his bionic arm. (MK3, UMK3, MKT, MK4, MKG) Double Missile: Jax fires two quick blasts from his arms. (MK3, UMK3, MKT) Piston Punches: Jax moves forward and punches the opponent multiple times. (MK:DA, MK:U, MK:A) Machine Gun: Jax pulls out a machine gun from his back and shoots at his opponent, pushing them back. (MK:DA, MK:U, MK:A)
Recurring fatalities Head Clap: Jax claps his hands violently over his opponent's head, crushing it. (MKII, MKT, MK4, MKG) Arm Rip: Jax grabs the opponent's arms and rips them from their body. (MKII, MK4, MKG)
Appearances in other media
Film Jax (misspelled in the closing credits as Jaxx) makes a brief appearance in the first Mortal Kombat movie, in which he advises Sonya not to board Shang Tsung's ship after accompanying her on the raid on Kano's club near the beginning of the movie. He was played by Gregory McKinney.
In Mortal Kombat: Annihilation, Jax (played by former American Gladiators actor Lynn "Red" Williams) sided with Sonya and her friends against Shao Kahn. During the final battle, he chose to take on Motaro (played by fellow Gladiators alumnus Deron McBee), but his cybernetic arms were rendered useless against him. Jax chose to take on Motaro in an all natural hand-to-hand combat, and surprisingly defeated Motaro quite easily. Even though his ambiguous relationship with the technological enhancements he uses is explored a bit, he is overall a tough-talking, African American stock character.

Television Jax appeared in the cartoon Mortal Kombat: Defenders of the Realm as one of the leading characters, in which he was voiced by Dorian Harewood. He has a lead role in episode 3 Acid Tongue, in which he loses his cybernetic arms and self-confidence, and episode 12 Abandoned, in which he retires tired of the constant battles. In these series, Jax is portrayed as a cool-minded character, almost always in a good mood.

Comic books Jax makes his first appearance in the Malibu Comics series in Goro: Prince of Pain 1st issue. He's unchanged from his game's story, being the Major of the Special Forces and Sonya's friend. He has a tendency to make jokes and puns during fights, much like Spider-Man, but remains mostly faithful to his game characterization. During Goro's miniseries, Jax sets out to find Sonya, who disappeared while chasing Kano to Shang Tsung's island. Shang Tsung uses him to find the missing Goro, telling him that Sonya was held hostage by Goro in Outworld (a lie). In the series' epilogue (Tournament Edition issue) he reunites with Sonya and captures Kano.
During the second series, Battlewave, Jax is attacked by Goro and left in a coma. In the 2nd issue he heals by sheer will to live, foils Jade and Smoke's attempt on his life, and joins Johnny Cage on a trip to Outworld after Sonya went missing while investigating Shang Tsung's island. In the Tournament Edition II series epilogue, Jax is gravely injured by Baraka in his arms, and later states he would need cybernetic arms when they return to Earth; despite this, however, a comic adaptation of Mortal Kombat III was never realized.
Jax, alongside Sonya and a team of exclusively-created Special Forces agents, has a 2-issue miniseries entitled U.S. Special Forces, in which the team engages Black Dragon member Rojack in his attempt to get treasures from a dimensional gate to another dimension.

Appearance Like Liu Kang and/or Johnny Cage, Jax is known for wearing pants only with no shirt, he's also known for changing the color of his pants throughout the series.
In MKII, his outfit is similar to Liu Kang's, as he wears black pants with red stripes, in MK3, the color of his pants changed to purple and now he possesses new bionic arms, in MK4, his primary costume is similar to his MKII outfit (Except that he still possess his bionic arms), while one of his alternates is similar to his MK3 outfit, in MKDA, his look at one point changed completely, he now wears green pants, sunglasses, large boots, as well as a new red beret.

Character development Before Sonya existed, Jax was originally conceived as a character and possessed her scenario for the first Mortal Kombat. However, since there were no female characters in the original roster at the time, Sonya was created and she inherited his story line of pursuing Kano and entrapment on Shang Tsung's island.
His original name was going to be Kurtis Stryker. Midway later recycled that name to create a new character in Mortal Kombat 3. Jax was also originally conceived as simply a kickboxer, but the idea was scrapped due to potential similarities to Balrog and Sagat from the Street Fighter series. Then he was given a yellow martial arts gi and big metal hands that clanged upon impact. However, the outfit concealed much of the impressive physique of actor/bodybuilder John Parrish, so he simply went shirtless with long black tights. Game footage was actually shot with Jax wearing the yellow costume, and Parrish accidentally split the pants during filming. He had the bionic implants painted onto his arms for MK3.
In the very early screenshots of Deadly Alliance, Jax was seen in his classic MK3 attire, however, it is later decided to give Jax a new look.[1]
There has been confusion as to whether Jax is simply wearing armored arms or had his arms replaced all-together in MK:DA.

Trivia
In the MKII comic book, he challenged Kintaro in battle. According to early production shots of Special Forces, Jax's code name is "Cobra." In the first movie it was "Cardinal." Even when selecting his alternate costume in Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance (the costume without the bionic arms), the impact of Jax's punches still sound off with the "clang" sound-effect as if he were wearing his armor plating or maybe hinting that he still has bionic arms but with artificial skin, or maybe it's a glitch. The game programmers mistakenly outfitted Jax with a red beret instead of a green one; a red beret represents Army Airborne units like the 82nd Airborne or 101st Screaming Eagles, whereas green is worn by the members of Army Special Forces. The first two issues of Malibu's MK comic book series featured a non-canon Special Forces character with one metal arm, one year before MK3 was released (1994), therefore possibly serving as the source of Midway's inspiration for Jax's metal arms. Jax goes out of his way to state that he was raised by his mother, Wanda Lee Briggs, in one of Malibu's storylines. However, in the animated series, he said that he was raised by his grandfather. He was also described as being the fattest kid in his school, with the nickname "Blubberbutt," in the cartoon as well. Neither of these subplots are canon, though, since they have never officially appeared in the MK storyline.. Jax's Fatality in MK3 was a homage to the T-1000 in Terminator 2: Judgement Day. In Mortal Kombat Armageddon, if you knock Jax off the Sky Temple he will scream "Oh my God! This is not happening to me!". Jax was introduced in the second game in order to play down racist claims since most of the characters were white and Asian _________________________________________________________ this has come from wikipiedia

As I briskily roam the halls of OIA's Senior Roomings, I overhear two voices obnoxiously raving from a room not too far away from me. I edge closer, and out of the blue, a bag goes flying from within the room and collides with the wall; something inside it shatters, loudly. "My Glasses, you fuck!", Keith bellows from within the 4 walled confinement. I can't see anything, but I can already hear the quick paced breaths exaled from both agents as they tussle, so I quickly hustle towards them, in hopes of which I wasn't clear of. All I needed to know was that they needed to stop fighting, and I was prepared to use force. As I turned the corner into the room, I peered inside by slightly edging my head over the door's threshold from behind the wall. I watched like a fascinated child as these two, although in a seriously undersized room, countered each other's fists and leg sweeps and they battled on. Suddenly, B_C roared "Stop moving like a little rabbit and FIGHT ME YOU BITCH". With three steps, B_C climbed the air as if scaling a mountain, ready dropkick Agent Keith's teeth out of his mouth. Unfortunately, Keith was stationed right in front of the door; neither had noticed I was watching. Using his split-second-reflexes, he narrowly evaded B_C's sky-high dropkick. I did not share the same fate however, as my face kissed leather, sending me spiraling backwards. The notebook and new poster I had carefully sketched out cascaded out of my hands as B_C gave head concussion a whole new definition.

I blacked out.

i walk around the base and find X on the floor in his room,
i chek his pulse,
good he's still alive,
i pick him up and bring her to the,
hospital wing and drop him on a bed,
i sit beside him waiting for him to wake up,
and then asked who did this to him.

IC: Keith was lying on B_C's bed when he saw his bag go flying. He heard his sunglasses shatter "MY glasses you fuck!" HE yelled. He shot out of the bed, intenending to hit him once to let him know not to fuck with him. But B_C rolled out of the way, sent Keith crashing into a wall.

The next two minutes were a blur, of kicks, blocks, punches and counters. Before Keith knew it, he had his back to the wall. B_C threw a huge jump kick, but Keith, fresh out of training, leaned to his left, missing the kick by inches. He turned his leg, and saw the kick connect into X's chest. (I'm disregarding Sibunad's post). Keith rushed to him (I think) and checked for a pulse. X was easily alive, but out-cold. "Yo B! Check this out! You knocked 'em out cold!" Keith smiled, patting B_C on the back. "Dude, that was a fun excersise, but you owe me one grand." Keith pressed an on the wall comm. link "We need a medic, E wing."

My trip through the connecting hallway was cut short when I saw the mass of curious heads poking out of their rooms and heard the incoherent whispers and murmurs: something about "knocked-out" and "fight" and "do you think those glasses really cost 1,000 dollars?"

I was confused for a solid few seconds, until I saw sibunad accompanying a group of medics, helping them take X's unconscious body away. The pieces of the puzzle in my mind started finding their place. I marched through the O.I.A. Rookies, pushing them aside and forcing a clear path for myself and the Special Operatives following in my stride.

I stopped when I reached the room assigned to B_C. Looking around carefully, I see a messed-up pile of bags on the wall and Keith cackling and patting a shocked-looking B_C on the back.

Keith's laughter dies out the instant his cheerful eyes wander onto the fierce expression of the general. He clears his throat, turns to B_C, and yells out,
"You idiot! Look at what you did to X and my bags! How could you?" B_C remains in a shocked state, staring at the spot where X lay not long ago. Five simple words escape his mouth: "But... that should've been you..."

"Alright, it's not hard to figure out what the hell just happened here."

I hear Keith clear his throat again in a regretful manner while B_C snaps out of his hypnotized state and straightens up his posture.

"Calm down, the two of you! You're both alright for now. I have to say, a little bit of 'commotion' never hurt anyone, and I do enjoy the... entertaining 'conversations' like the one you two just had."

Keith and B_C exhale in relief. Keith even grins a little.

"But I can't ignore the fact that one of our recruits are... 'out of order' because of what happened here. B_C! Are you sure you're not an undercover criminal working for some lowlife organization, trying to take out my agents and make it seem like an 'accident'?"

I glare at him with suspicion painted all over my eyes, Keith doing the same. B_C begins to respond, but I cut him off before he can desperately defend himself from my wild accusation.

"And you, Keith! ..... How the f*ck can YOU afford a thousand dollar sunglasses?"

Keith doesn't reply, but simply looks surprised.

"Anyway..." I turn to the trio of Special Ops. behind me. "Would you three please escort Keith and his broken furniture to another room? Unless..." I face Keith once again. "...he'd like to congratulate B_C for his undercover criminal traitor-scheme some more!"

B_C begins to reply, "Dammit, I'm not part of an underc--"

"That's enough, B_C, calm down! Keith, follow these agents to another room. You can visit your friend after he's calmed down.

Keith salutes, picks up his bags from the floor, and begins to walk off after the Special Ops.

"One more thing! I don't know X very well, but if I was in his shoes right now, I wouldn't be one bit happy with being attacked all of a sudden, out of nowhere. When he gets out of recovery, there's a good chance he'll be pretty pissed with the two of you... or at least B_C." I can't help but smile in amusement as I go on. "Know that if this is the case, X will have full authorization to confront the ones responsible for his temporary downfall."

B_C throws his hands in the air, looking ready to throw a tantrum and release his pent-up stress. I turn my back to him and Keith and direct my next announcement to everyone around me, nosy agents included.

"I'll take advantadge of the fact that everyone here would rather watch a fight than get your asses in bed to make an...

~ Important Announcement ~

Today, Saturday, October 6th, at around 5pm EST, I need everyone to report to the Debriefing Room! We have received vital information about the unrecognizable disruptions that I must share with everyone so that we may plan out how to deal with the situation.

And with one last look at the 'protagonists' of the situation, I walk off.

After being shown to my room, and unpacking. I head downstairs to the debriefing room. The general said he had some pressing information, and I smelled my first assignment in the air.

As I get into the room, I notice I'm one of the first ones there, and that I'm fifteen minutes early. "Being early never hurt anyone." I said to myself. I sat there, patiently, waiting for the other opertaives to arrive.

..:::: The Anonymous Tip ::::..

"Hidden Hazard" - Step 1

"Our research into the abnormal readings our satellites have been picking up have just took an unexpected turn. Everything stopped when we received an anonymous message yesterday from an unknown writer who seems to be trying to help us for an equally-unknown reason."

I project the image of the mysterious note we received onto the large screen in front of the agents.

"As you can see, we currently have no way of finding out who sent us this message. I would disregard it in any other occasion, but this is different. Along with this note, we received an image showing us a pinpoint location here on Earth. Problem is, the image was purposedly cut-up so that only part of the location's name and its place on the world shows."

"We will attempt to compare this image with a detailed world map in hopes of discovering what location it is referring to. In the meantime, I suggest you all do the same. This is a chance to prove your wit, your intelligence, and your ability to use the power of the mind to tackle the obsctales in your way.

Allow me to provide you all with some helpful information that could aid you in your discovery. Take a look at this map."

"These are the locations that our satellites have received odd readings from in the past few days. The place our mysterious helper is trying to show us is very likely to be ON or AROUND one of these locations marked in red.

I hope that is enough to get everyone who is interested started. If you have any ideas that could help the agency, please report to me here immediately.

We will talk again soon."

I'm awoken by the penetrating beams of the early sunrise surpassing the foggy stain glass windows and onto my drunken visage. Taking a few licks of the air, I dare to open my eyes, discovering I'm laying on a $5 dollar hospital bed-spread, wrapped in blankets and other unverfiable means of keeping myself warm. I scan the room with a half-eyed attempt: aside from the light outstreched by the sun outside, the four walls choke any other forms of luminosity. It's as if I'm inside a hospital ward, except that hospital is run by drug overlords, and said-drug overlords don't give two flying fu--

*a light rap on the door unvisible to my eyes*

OIA Health Nurse, in her refugee over-sensitive spanish accent: Mr. Xtactico?

*I shut my eyes and immerse myself within my almost ghostly white blankets*

Me: Ugh .. where in all places unholy am I?

*She slowly gaits towards my bed*

OIA Health Nurse: Mr. X ... you've been asking that KQUEstion for 3 hours now. Do you still not remember anything?

*At this point I don't really give a fuck about what I'm allegedly supposed to remember, all I can gather so far is this so-called hospital needs some goddamn heating*

Me: No ma'am .. *muffled from underneath my pillow* .. I don't remember shit. But uh, I'd like to know, how do you tell one in spanish to fuck the hell off?

OIA Health Nurse: MEEESTER X!

Me: Look lady, it's .. (I unearth my head to locate some form of clock; I fail).. pretty fucking early, and I'm in a room, dressed in someone's underwear, clothes, and socks. Now if you can't tell me why the HELL I look like Captain Crunch, then you can get the hell out.

*silence, followed by the rasp whisper of the now irritated nurse*

OIA Health Nurse: AIEi! COMOSTAS SEMTUPA RESTASPAS! COOLEEENNA! (spanish giberish here)

*I hear the nurse scuttle towards the door, and barricade my room shut with her defiant swing of it. A few minutes later, another light tap at my door*

A sweet, melodic voice: Xtactics?

*I immediatley stiffen up. After three attempts to roll myself over so I face the celing, Colleen has already opened the door and is standing beside*

Colleen, she's holding a medical chart in one hand and chews her silver pen cap with another:*eyes focused on me* Yes .. you still look the same. Know where you are?

Me: A bad dream.

*My sour joke doesn't go across well. She looks back towards the door, then again presses her glare upon me. Colleen flips through the clipboard with a sigh on each turn of paper.*

Colleen, annoyed: You and me both .. listen kid, you've been out cold for the past 3 hours. This is the third time you've told Maria to "eff-off". General Leo may take lightly to your ill-defined jokes, but when you're incapaciated and underneath the care of our staff, I expect you be on your best behaviour, concussions or not.

Me, sarcastically: Oh that's great, I thought it was something worse, like me missing out on debriefing.

*She raises her eyebrow, then delivers a smile that isn't hear-warming*

Colleen: That's a shame ... I guess it is worse.

Me, mouth stretched so wide you could fit a basketball: .. you're fucking kidding me right? Our FIRST mission and I'm missing it?!

Colleen: Not like you'd be of any use, X. You and your sub-par engineering skills. I still dont' see how Leo took you in ..

*At this point, I'm ready to kill a bitch. Suddenly, my head aches and I fall backwards onto my pillow, scraping my head in pain*

Colleen: Oh yes, (sarcastically, monotone) you might feel slight migraines every now and then. Aside from that, you should be feeling better.

Me, still clutching my forehead: What the hell happened to me? I'm engineering division, not combat central!

Colleen: Well .. according to the rumours, you got into it (her tone changes as though she's admiring someone) with Agent Keith and B_C, and ... I think it was Keith who put you out of commission with his drop kick.

*There are nearly sparkles in her eyes. Mine are filled with fire.*

Me: Mother-fuckers!

*Withstanding the pain I am in, I tear apart the complicated machinery attached to my body. Colleen tries to settle me down, but I quickly take care of her with a pimp-slap to her delicate face*

Me: Bitch.

*I manage to swing myself off my bed, and assert myself when I stand. I crack my knuckles viciously, and clench my fists as I exit my room. Immediately I attract the attention of the ward working quietly- it seems they heard everything, including my uncalled for blow against Colleen. Menacingly, I pace myself down the hall towards the exit, eyeing anyone that dares raise their voice. None do so, and when I reach the exit, I forcefully swing the doors open*

Me: Someone's going to pay.

I raised my hand immedieatly. "SIR! I've narrowed it down to two locations!" I stepped up to the projector hurriedly, albeit a little excited. I pointed two the red dot in japan, and the one closest to it (SOuth, south-east). They both fit geographically into the scheme. We'll have to send out operatives to both places, I'd persume. Sir." Keith said, with and uneasy smile

We can only accept one of your discoveries as fact once someone is able to state the name of the location in the cut-up map we received. We already know that the name of the location begins with "H-O-B-A", but we must figure out the ENTIRE name so tha we can plan the next step.

So here are the clues we have so far:

- The location's name begins with the letters H, O, B, A.
- The location is somewhere near ONE of the red dots marked on the map above.

"Sibunad, your discovery was checked and confirmed. Indeed, our anonymous helper is pointing us to Hobart, Australia.

For putting the pieces of this puzzle together, I'd like to welcome you into the O.I.A. base and a renewed status within our Agency.

Wear your new emblem with pride."

I amplify my voice to address all the other agents.

"The next step is to think of how best to deal with this situation. We know that there is abnormal activity taking place in Hobart, and the possible danger of an opening of an unauthorized portal. I will meet with the other agents as well and put together a strategy.

Any ideas, let me know. Every opinion is welcome.

Tomorrow, October 7th, I will announce our strategy and assign those who will perform on it. I do not have a set time for when we will have a concrete idea, so I ask that you all check on occasion to make sure you take the best possible advantadge of this mysterious situation.

Before the General leaves, I voice my opinon. "Sir, I think we should send a combat team down there. Given a set of magnetic disruptors, any portal opening would be dealt with accordingly. If something decides to pop out of this portal, it will be dealt with. Sir."

I burst into the debriefing room, infuriated and swelling with fervor.

"Here's a fucking idea for you Keith!", I boom loudly as I unlatch my .45 from it's sheath and cock it, my intention shown on Keith's face.

I stare menacingly at Keith ... then lower my pistol, slowly. My blood is still boiling, and I'm still looking for the slightest reason to squeeze off a few into Keith's flesh. Squinting, I reply cooly:

"I don't care, General Leo. Whether it was B_C or Keith, it takes two to tango."

Turning my head towards the door, I silently contemplate. Then, :

"Agent Keith .. I notice you've got a nice badge on your shirt pocket."

Keith gives me a puzzling look

"... so it's going to be all the more sweeter when I beat the shit out of your skull, in front of the whole agency. Meet me in the emulator room, next week, 10 PM sharp."

As I begin to walk away, I reach the door leading outside the Debriefing Room and halt, cocking my head towards Keith, although my back still faced him

"And tell B_C he's invited."

I stood there as X burst into the room, yelling and shouting. Next thing I knew, I was looking down the barrel of his .45

My adreadline spiked and I was actively looking for a way out of this mess. That's when I saw the General lazily put X's arm away, and told him who had hit the blow. By then I had regained my signature smile. "Yeah, he knocked you out pretty good. And next time, check who called the medics who saved your ass." I said, again with my smile.

I was still happy about how the General really liked my plan of attack. "Straightforward" is how he put it, and that generally depicted my life. NO falsifications. Just me, and me. ONe punch, one kill, no problem.

I'm standing on the threshold of Keith's newly assigned room, staring hard at the floor. Patiently I await Keith's arrival: it seemed as though General Leo had something else to say after I barged out of DB. Breaking the silence, I hear Keith's echoing footsteps ricocheting against the walls in the narrow hallway. I feel his presence creep closer; it tingles my spine. With his shadow cast on the floor, I calmy say to him, head still tiltled towards the ground

"Look ... we're leaving on a mission tommorow. And for this mission to work, we've got to be able to trust each other. Granted, you and B_C have the least of mine, but that doesn't mean we're still not part of a team. I need to know that you're going to have my flank when we're out in the open, and it's just you and me back to back. Am I assuming correctly when I say I can trust you?"

I see Keith's shadow nod curtly, and although I can't see his face, I picture him with a cock-eyed eyebrow, and that goofy grin he carries on his face

"Good," I say gruffly, and walk away without turning to face him.

I walk a few steps and pause

"And leave the chopsticks here, Japanese boy, or I might be tempted to shove them half-way up your ass when this is all over. Don't think for a second I won't remember today. I'll make sure the enemy stays off your back when we're out there, but as soon as this is all over, it'll be me you're going to have to watch out for."

"Alright, now that you've made your point to Keith, as well as that deliciously subtle hint at a future payback, let's get out of here. I got things to discuss with you."

I guide X out of the room and through the spiraling hallways. He's so stressed, breath erratic and eyes glaring, that he shows no concern or curiosity for where I am leading him and for what purpose.

He seems to "wake up" when we reach the recovery sector of the base and one of the nurses, Colleen, walks out, her cheek redenned and her expression grim.

"Miss Colleen made sure to communicate me at the end of my information session at the Debriefing Room and let me know that you reacted a little 'wildly' during your stay here. It makes me wonder whether, next time you're out cold, I should just dump your body in a river somewhere."

X groans impatiently and replies with, "This bitch was asking for it! She looked all happy and shit when she talked about how I was knocked out! No one treats me like that, I don't give a fuck whether they're men, women, child, OIA, or criminals!"

"I see. That's acceptable. But I think Miss Colleen has something she'd like to say to you."

Colleen storms up to X, who keeps his ground, but nevertheless receives a hearty slap across the face. The nurse angrily spins around and runs off before X can retaliate.

I grab a firm hold of X's shoulders as he tries to run after the "inconsequential slut", keeping him in place.

"Calm down, buddy, it's over! An eye for an eye, I always say."

I smile.

"Thanks for taking care of this small problem with me, X. Oh, and I hope you'll join us in the upcoming mission! I'll pretend you never missed our debriefing!"

..:::: Gathering Information ::::..

"Hidden Hazard" - Step 2

All the agents who felt drawn to the latest problems has gathered outside the O.I.A. base. I make my way through them all, greeting some, analyzing the expressions of others, and getting a feel for whether or not these guys could handle their first mission, which was definitely not going to be a simple one.

I finally stop my pacing, which was getting a little annoying either way. I face the recruits with a solemn look, but a hint of an eager grin.

"I'm glad to see you have all showed up. I had my moments of doubt regarding whether or not many of you would be interested in tackling such a mysterious mission as your first one. Does everyone here feel 100% prepared for whatever comes their way?"

I hear a mess of positive responses from the agents.

"Great. Here's the deal. I have come to the conclusion that, as Keith previously suggested, going into Hobart and dealing with the situation from there is the best course of action. Those of you who have decided to take on this mission will now be leaving to Hobart through an O.I.A. portal, which will be closed the moment you step on Australian ground for obvious safety purposes.

The next step in your mission is clear: once you all step through the portal and arrive in Hobart, you are to gather information. Ask around the locale. Conversate with the locals. We need to find out WHERE in Hobart someone could have chosen to deal with unauthorized activity."

Keith: "What kind of questions should we focus on getting answers to?"

"What kind of place would a person who wants to open a secretive portal go to? Think about the answer to that question and use it to formulate your own. When one of you believe you have discovered a likely place to search through, you will call me and report your findings to me. I will then give the next step you should all follow in your mission."

I step away from the group of agents and extend my right arm forward. It is cloaked by a metallic, silver gauntlet. I make my hand into a fist, simuntaneously activating the motion-sensor in its palm. A red aura materializes around the gauntlet and shoots forward, snaking into itself and taking the shape of a round, glossy portal.

"If you all think you're ready for this, step through. The moment your short journey ends, you will have arrived in a secure area located in Hobart. From there, begin your quest for the vital information previously mentioned."

=================================================

Here's an important note that you guys will need to know as you take on this mission: you are in charge of YOURSELF, and no one else. When creating your scenes and performing your actions, make sure you are controlling only yourself and no one else. If you're Keith, you shouldn't be making X go somewhere or talk to someone - X will do only what he feels like doing. If you're B_C, you shouldn't be making Soul_Stealer break into a place or say something to another agent - Soul_Stealer will only act however he would like to. Get it?

On that note, I will be "watching" everyone from the O.I.A. base. That means I will "give life" to any "NPC"-type of person/being who is brought into this storyline by stating their actions/dialogue as if I were "witnessing" it. Does everyone understand what I'm getting at? Bottom line is, you control YOU and you drive the mission forward with YOURSELF and no one else. Please ask if you have any doubts or questions throughout this mission.

Keith grabbed the case of Magnetic Disruptors. There was two in there, just in-case something went wrong. He stepped through first, leading the pack.

The familiar feeling of being pulled inside-out, and being ripped apart washed over him, and before he knew it, he was standing on a beach in Australia.

It was a beautiful, sunny day. Easily eighty-five degrees, and water as clear as Ice. They were looking at a sea-side village, with a few hills, dotted with caves, lineing the exterior. Keith looked around, and saw his teammates step out of the portal, which collapsed immedieatly S_S stepped out. They all formed up on the beach.

Keith, taking a commander role, stepped up. "We need to formulate a plan of attack. Who is going to interogate the townsmen? Who's going to search the beach? The caves?" Keith asked, waiting for voulenteers.
