~ Keith ~

Keith: "Listen to me prick, you're going to answer my questions, or feel more of this!"

Unconscious, the man does not respond.

Before Keith can properly digest what just happened, the door bursts open and the three men from before run in and each instantly whip out a gun.

~ Soul_Stealer ~

Listening in to the dillemma in Soul_Stealer's hands, I quickly thought of the best route to take in such a situation.

"Soul_Stealer, I suggest you meet up with or radio in some of the other agents and find out what they know. It's very possible that someone may give you the piece of the puzzle you need to plan your next move and wrap up this case. Let me know when you've made progress. One thing is for sure, though: you better get out of there before the bodies are found and cops start asking you annoying questions to blow your cover."

~ sibunad ~

I was considerably taken aback when I received a request from sibunad's camera. Having taken care of Soul_Stealer, I opened up the feed of the Rookie's hidden apparatus and walked into a mid-sized office, coming face-to-face with an unpleasent-looking man having a smoke.

sibunad: "anything strange happen here or around this hotel?"

Hotel Owner (gruffly): "In my hotel? Of course not. This is a safe place for all tourists. Around town, the only strange thing I've heard about is the disappearence of that lady who lives by the Domain. I can't tell you how many of you reporters are questioning us good citizens about it."

sibunad: "Do you know anyone of your guest that have some thing wierd going on in there room?"

Hotel Owner: "Room 101 complained about the toilet that was overflowing. That's not very newsworthy, though."

sibunad: "Any history thats wierd or brought chaos around your hotel?"

Hotel Owner: "Like I said, this is a peaceful place. You sound very suspicious, though... if you know something that's going on here, please tell me."

I wake up in my silk bed, clawing at my now sweat drenched-pillow. I check the digital alarm clock provided by the hotel

7:25 AM

Briskily, I take a quick shower followed by the devouring of two freshly cooked lobster entrees (I couldn't resist Leo!). Packing up my TPA, MD Explosive, some cash, my walkie-talkie, water bottles, I changed into my attire from the previous morning. I didn't smell great, but it would have to do- I'd have to do some shopping later. With a short prayer, I nearly exit the spacious room, but quickly remember to take my blunt kitchen knife with me: you never know when you're going to need it

Roaming Derwent River wasn't exactly a small satisfactory vacation on it's own, but it certainly wasn't reassuring to have to constantly remind myself that women and shopping sprees had to be put in 2nd place as of now. As I searched for the missing lady's son's address, I noticed the beautiful glossy effect off the water reflecting the sun's brimming rays, and the serenity of the wind-surfers gliding across the surface of the water. It didn't seem like an ideal place for constructing a cabin .. but that's what the man had told me. A few hours later, strolling along the pavement, I came to a dead end. Scratching my head, I peered over the crumbling barricade, to which I was surprised to have located the cabin. It wasn't the greatest looking shack in the world- parts of the roof were missing, moss was growing over it, and worst of all: it was colored peach. Cocking an eyebrow, I leapt the decaying obstacle in my way with ease, and ventured forward

As I headed forward, the door to the rusty old cabin opened with a shrewed squeal, and out stepped a young man, 6'2, lean, blonde, blude eyes, dressed in green and black camo shorts, accompanied with a wifebeater and leather sandals. He doesn't seem to notice me as he heads my direction; his head hung low, like he'd just been spanked for disobedience. Without thinking, I quickly yell, to his surprise:

"HEY! You the kid who's mom's been missing? I'm wi-"

I don't get the opportunity to finish my sentence. The boy quickly shoves past me, sending me spiraling into the sand. To my amazement, he hovers over the barricade and starts to run like Forrest Gump. Coughing out sand from my lungs, I spring up and head after him. I nearly trip on the barricade, I'm so pissed off.

10:23 AM

I'd started to regret missing out on the Hologram Training Session a couple of days ago, for I'd never been so adrenaline rushed in my life. Without thinking, I was shoving past people, elbowing others, and somtimes I even had to shove some to the ground to keep up with the kid's velocity. Granted , I was a government trained OIA Agent, and I wasn't exactly keeping a "low profile" with my more than aggressive antics, but I couldn't think clearly. All I had was this boy and his information, and I was going to-

*BAM*

I collide with the winshield of an oncoming car as I attempt to cut across the hazardous traffic. I'm shaken, but I'm still alive: thankfully, the car slowed down just as we both impacted. Slowly, I roll off the hood of the car, in severe pain. Unknown hands try to help me up, and I can hear concern in some of their voices, but there's not time for that. I casually get up and play it cool, as though the car had never hit me. Limping, I eventually reach the other side the of the sidewalk. By this time, the boy is nearly 20 paces ahead of me.

"There's no way I'm going to get this guy, " I mumbled as I hobble 10 steps.

I can barely make out his outline now, but I can still see him grasp his knees and pant for breathe. He turns around and tries to see if I'm going to make another running attempt to catch him, and why he's running, I don't even know in the first place. We're seperated by a stoplight, and I inch a litter closer to the curb. I yell from a distance:

"LOOK MAN... I'm not here to kill you or anything. I'm here to help you. I know about what happened to your mother ... trust me, I wouldn't trust a guy that looked like myself either. You're going to have to take a risk- do you want to see your mother again, or not?"

He's silent for a few minutes .. and then he turns 180 degrees and heads towards me. While he waits for the stoplight to allow him to cross, I can see freshly painted tears aloft his face. When he crosses, he slowly walks up to me and speaks:

"My name is Ryan .. and I'm real sorry I tried to outrun you mister. I thought you were one of .. "them" ... are you really going to help me?

An awful silence, then

"Son, I'm going to do everything in my power to help you get your mom back. But for that, I'm going to need your trust and everything you know. Sound fair?"

*he nods*

Back at the cafe, we both take seats near the window. To make things less awkward, I order both of us some caffeinated coffee. I begin to ask

"Why are you guys living so far out of view? Behind a barricade, in a lonely cabin?"

"Was it cause of your mom's job? What did she do for a living?"

"Where is your Aunt? I didn't see her."

"When was the last time you saw your mom?

"Where did she say she was going last?

"Has she left you anything of importance, just in case something like this might have happened? A note or something would be nice.

"Was your mom involved in any kind of organization she was secretive about? Did she try to keep anything from you?"

"What else can you tell me about the recent things happening in Domain? Has anyone else gone missing?"

"Is there anything else you can tell me that would help me find out what happened to your mother?"

~ X ~

I could barely see what was happening in the blur that had befallen my monitor while X chased that brat through the Domain. No wonder I let out such a huge sigh of relief when the Rookie sorted the problem out, and was sitting down with the kid in the cafe not much more than ten minutes later.

Obviously, I was eager to hear the answers he was going to get. The closer the agents were getting to shutting this case down, the more anxious I became to discover what the next turn of events would be.

X: "Why are you guys living so far out of view? Behind a barricade, in a lonely cabin?"

Ryan: "It's not ours. We just happened to know it was there. My aunt thought it was safer to stay there until hey found my mother."

X: "Was it cause of your mom's job? What did she do for a living?"

Ryan: "She was a maid for some rich guy. I don't her job had anything to do with her disappearence, though. I know the guy she works for, he's very nice."

X: "Where is your Aunt? I didn't see her."

Ryan: "She was taking a nap. When my mother disappeared, she became sick. She sleeps a lot..."

X: "When was the last time you saw your mom?"

Ryan (smiling): "Back at our house. We were playing Scrabble during her lunch break."

X: "Where did she say she was going last?"

Ryan's smile vanishes instantly. He stares at his coffee as if it was a functional crystal ball. The reluctance is clear in his expression.

Ryan: "She told me not to tell anyone... she said she was going to follow Reynold. He's this guy she met. She said something about how he might be doing something wrong and decided to find out what it was. She just wanted to help him because she thought he was comitting some sort of crime. She didn't come back, though..."

Ryan's smile vanishes instantly. He stares at his coffee as if it was a functional crystal ball. The reluctance is clear in his expression.

X: "Has she left you anything of importance, just in case something like this might have happened? A note or something would be nice."

Ryan: "No note. She just said that if the police came looking for Reynold, to say that he was staying at the cabin in Mount Wellington, but that she didn't know anything else."

X: "Was your mom involved in any kind of organization she was secretive about? Did she try to keep anything from you?"

Ryan: "No, she just wouldn't tell me too many details about why she wanted to find out what Reynold was doing so much."

X: "What else can you tell me about the recent things happening in Domain? Has anyone else gone missing?"

Ryan: "No, no one else has gone missing, just my mother. I also haven't seen Reynold anymore, and I've been too scared to go up to that cabin. I was also afraid of telling the cops where he was, like my mother told me. I thought he might do something to her..."

He begins to tear up.

X: "Is there anything else you can tell me that would help me find out what happened to your mother?"

Ryan: "They say they last saw her at the remains of Hobart Zoo. I don't know what happened to her, but I bet it was there. Mister, can you promise me something? If you find that Reynold, make him pay for whatever he's done to my mom..."

~ sibunad ~

sibunad: "What happend to him?"

Doctor: "He was in an accident. I cannot disclose any information unless you're a family member."

I decide to radio in sibunad to give him some information that, hopefully, he finds of use.

"Sibunad, I suggest you meet up or call up one of the other agents. Some of them have gained some type of lead or another in the mission. Rather than trying to find additional information, it is my suggestion that you have others share what has been attained with you, and plan out your next move from there.

Let me know when you have decided on your next step. Good luck.

Over and out."

Safely booked into an entirely hotel and now dressed in a tailored Armani suit, I heed the General's advice and make radio contact with X:

"Heya, I hate to bother you, but I'm at a dead end...I am pretty sure that the zoo plays a big part of what's going on, but not much more beyond that. I plan on heading over there later this afternoon, but I was interested in what you've found, and if you'll be in the area at some point as well."

I looked up, and saw the three men, all drawing their guns. Acting swiftly, I pulled Reynold up by the knife embedded in his lower stomach. Although unconscious, his flesh would serve as a shield.

"You shoot at me... I kill your friend Reynold."

They all looked at each other inquisitevly, obviously trying to guess how I learrned his name. While they shot each other looks, I muttered into my cam

"General, I need backup, pronto."

They all leveled their guns at me.

"How do you know his name?" One of them spat.

I tried to stall for as long as possible.

"I've been watching you guys for some time now. You've got a nice little cabin up here, pretty well kept., for a retard." I muttered.

ONe of them shot a glare at me, and fired a round, missing my head by inches. I turned the knife into his ribs, the man waking up, blood pooling out of his mouth.

As the boy disclosed his story to me in tears, I couldn't help but get a little sentimental myself. Masking my own tears behind the cheque, I exited the cafe reassuring the boy I would do everything in my power to make sure Reynold and everyone he was associted with would come to justice. Sending the boy back home, I knew that I had to act as quickly as possible. Not wasting any time, I whip out my walkie talkie and dial in General Leo's number as quick as possible

"Damn ... fucking answering machine," I grumble.

I'm forced to leave Gen. Leo a message concerning the findings of my little chat with Ryan, the missing woman's son. I reccount my information to his automated voice machine. S_S called me on my communicator, but having to think and plan an attack, I simply messaged Leo to deal with S_S for me as well. Whether this was a completely smart move, or a totally rash one, I was going to get up that mountain faster than Colleen gets on Gen. Leo's whale. I left a little eulogy just in case I didn't make it.

1:13 PM

I'm silently climbing the jagged path towards the cabin Ryan had described to me. Along the way, I'd realized I didn't have any firearm or other means of deadly weaponry on myself, just the blunt kitchen knife in my hand. Almost at the climax of the road, I manage to find a bulky log- perfect in case I needed to sneak up on some unsuspecting motherfuckers. Almost at perfect zero, I silently creep up to the cabin which comes into full view. I can overhear commotion:

"You shoot at me... I kill your friend Reynold."

" ... what the FUCK? Was that Keith in there?" I couldn't help muttering in a whisper.

His presence there only meant trouble. This was going to be harder than I thought, knowing that I could full well injure my teamate inside the house. His situation sounded hostile: from what I could make out hiding in the bushes, there were three men pointing towards what was probably Keith, but I couldn't make out WHAT they were pointing with because the rest of their arms were cut-off by the threshold of the door leading into the cabin. I tucked my knife inside my sweat pants ... things were about to get ugly. I slowly cradled the large log spread evenly through my palms. There was no room for mistakes, I had to get them all in one swing.

"I've been watching you guys for some time now. You've got a nice little cabin up here, pretty well kept., for a retard."

I heard a gunshot and the rending of flesh .. this was it. With the three men perfectly distracted by Keith's taunts, I took a running start towards their heads, hailing the tree branch above my head like an aztec warrior. Simultaneously, they all cock their heads behind their backs only to be met by mother-fucking-nature's finest. Unconcious, they all fell back onto the now bloodied floor, immobolized. I grin at my handywork, then glance towards Keith. He's holding a man hostage, apparently, and a knife was lodged in his ribs.

"Who the hell is that?" I ask questioningly.

"It's Reynold! I managed to subdue him while he wasn't looking!"

My adrenaline spikes. Keith has just single-handedly managed to nearly incapacitate the only man we knew of so far that had information on the disturbances, but more importantly to me, the mother of Ryan

"You ... FUCKING ......... IDIOT!" I boom at the top of my lungs.

Keith is shocked, and he releases Reynold who falls into my waiting hands, a bit concious now. The color of Keith's face turns ghastly white. He doesn't make a sound as I take Reynold over to the kitchen table and lay him out accordingly. I try to open his shirt to examine the extent of the damage Keith has done to his-

*COLD CLOCK*

Reynold had been playing possum for a while, and I realized he regained conciousness right around the time a shot was fired at Keith. Drunk with rage, he snatched the butcher knife from my pants and lunged at Keith, all in one fluid motion. Without fail, he impaled Keith near the pectoral once. Twice. A third time. A fourth time. By the fifth rebound I gathered my thoughts and noticed Keith getting torn apart on the floor. It seemed that more of the blood was now Keith's rather than Reynolds. Balancing myself, I manage to get up off the ground and tear Reynolds off of Keith, but not before Reynold had driven Keith's face in with his clenched fists. Wringing apart Reynolds from his blood lust frenzy was something I regretted, but after I managed to get him off Keith, I disarmed him rather quickly and put him in a Texas Arm Lock. I take him off his feet so that he's tangled up and awaiting almost certain death on his knees, bloodied and bleeding profusely. I groan:

"Look Reynolds, I don't want to kill you. I'm no fucking psychopath, but if you don't answer my questions I don't really think I'll really have any other use for you. Live or die, is that simple enogh?"

He gives me a sullen headshake, so I knee him in the back

"IS THAT SIMPLE ENOUGH?"

"Yes yes it is .. ," he wails.

Knowing I could get information out of him now, I asked him rather cooly:

"What the hell happened to Ryan's mother? The lady that went missing?

"What's the purpose of this cabin? Is this the base of your operations?"

"Why are you even here? What's your goal in all of this?"

"What kind of organization are you running with?"

"What are you planning to do here? I'm going to take a jackass-like guess and assume it's portal related?"

"Where are you meeting next?"

"What's so important at the Zoo Remains?"

I stood up slowly, blood pooling out of my pec. I was going to be fine, the cuts weren't deep, but I was pissed off. I slugged Reynold, hard. Being careful not to knock him unconscious, I punched him a second, and then third time. Right before I stopped, I laced a kick into his wound by his ribs. "Cocksucker." I said with a smile, watching X's face fill up with some sort of emotion. But keith saidf something nobody would have ever expected.

"Thanks for saving my life back there. I was dead if you hadn't showed."

I breathe a sigh of disapproval and annoyance as I watch Keith punish the suspect further and further beyond the limit. The pained Reynold then grabs X's collar and whispers something close to his ear.

Reynold angrily spits a lake's-worth of blood onto the face of the man who brought him to such a state. My hand rams against the monitor, nearly shattering it, when I now see Reynold breathe his last breath of air and start on his journey to the after-life.

I stare at the scene in shock. Half of me wanted to unleash hell's fury on the actions that were just taken, and half of me wanted to patiently wait and find out what Reynold had spoken to X before he croaked...

I waited, wondering whose state of paralyzed surprise would vanish first: mine, X's, or Keith's...

I sit in the darkly lit hotel room, breathing a sigh of frustration as X doesn't answer.

I scroll through the cell phone's directory, finding few names of interest. Among them, Mullins' name appears, as expected, and so does another that seems vaguely familiar: Reynold. That's it; no last name, nothing else to identify it, but it seems like I should know the name. I run the number and find that it was registered and last used here in Hobart, near Mt. Wellington. Just as I get up for a shower, I see that the General is patching through. He advises me to head to Mt. Wellington to meet up with X and Keith; looks like things might finally be coming to a head on the investigation.

I take a quick shower, changing into a lycra athletic shirt and dark jeans, complemented by black leather shoes.

Making my way up Mt. Wellington, I see a small cabin with very little light coming out of a window and, as I get closer, the broken front door.

As I enter the cabin I see a few dead bodies, and as I scan the room I see X looking at Keith with intense emotion...maybe fury, and Keith standing over a dead body. They both spare a glance as I walk in.

"So...which one of these guys is Reynold?"

I stand over the dead Reynold, trying to turn my breathing back to normal. I was still shaking. I hadn't intended to kill him, but shit happens. X had a stare on me, and I couldn't tell if he wanted to explode, or just kill me. As S_S walked in, I and asked his question, I pointed down to the dead body.

What'd he say? I asked.

Reynold falls lifeless before me, collapsing as though he suffered a heat stroke. My eyes widen as though I'm cutting onions, and my nose scruffles up. Eyebrows tightened, I stare at Reynold's lifeless body, and don't seem to notice S_S or sibunad enter the room. Voices, that's all they are right now. Voices ....

"What'd he say?"

Keith's voice awakens me from my trance. Keith. Without even attempting to, he single handedly jeopardized our entire mission with his careless antics. Was there really any NEED to further humilate the now-mortified Reynold? I had hoped to bring in him to General Leo for further interrogation, but it was out of the question now. A vital part of the puzzle had just vanished, thanks to Mr. Hot-Shot, always trying to prove himself to us. I had something to prove, and I was going to do it right now

"He told me exactly everything I needed to know, "I replied with a monotounous voice.

I slowly extracted the knife still embedded within Reynold's side. I gently caressed it in my swaying hands, flipping it from one side to another. Pausing for short moments, I could hear the penetrating silver whisper death into my ears: it moaned for Agent Keith's blood

"You fucked up big time, Agent Keith." My voice was cold.

Keith could not reply, for his words were lost in his stammer

"Run."

Without having to take a second guess, I see Keith bolt for the door leading to the mountain. I whirl around in a split second, propelling the knife towards Keith's vertebrae. The sound of flesh revealing it's inner secrets had never made me feel more satisfied. Keith hits the floor, hard, chipping his tooth. Crawling, he's still attempting to get away from me. Sibuand and S_S watch in silence, mouths gaping. I pass them by as I head towards Keith, shooting them both a quick glance before I unleash hell..

Like the dirty swine he is, Keith manages to find something laying on the ground and hurls it at my face. I shake my head to the side, and return my gaze upon the ghost-white Keith. I flip him over to his back, and send my foot plunging towards the blade still lodged in his back. The revelation of breaking bones and Keith's cries please me to no end. Followed by my repeated stomp to send the knife as far as possible into his back, I flip Keith over once more and begin to send my fists into his already bloodied face. His cries are drowned out by the sound of my recoiling blows. His teeth cut into my knuckles, but the adrenaline blocks out any pain or regret I might feel at the moment. S_S and sibunad don't dare to try and take me off Keith: He fucked up and he's going to remember not to do it again

Keith lays lifeless on the ground, the gravol soaks up his blood

Silently, I drag him by the collar and heave him onto the table were Reynold laid just seconds ago. Searching him, I relieve him of his walkie talkie and his magnetic disruptor. With S_S and sibunad onlooking, I say to them, my back turned:

"He won't be needing these anymore"

Tossing those two items into my bag, I shovel the blue rusack over my shoulder. I look around the shack and locate the refrigerator. Opening it up to reveal a freezer inside, I unseal the lid. Inside it, a spiked crystal shines, glistening against the ice crstyals mantled all over the freezer

"Just like he said it would be there .... ," I whisper to myself.

Without a moment's thought, I carefully wrap the crystal around in some towels I find in the bathroom and place it neatly in my bag. Slinging it across my back once again, I slowly exit the cabin. Before I leave, I cock my head towards S_S and sibunad:

"Don't follow me," I say unwelcomingly, "unless you want to end up like Keith over there."

I point to his unanimated body spread out across the table

*EXIT*

I stroll down the path till I am out of their view, and I look backwards each time, just making sure. Finally, I head down the mountain without turning back, because I can overhear sibunad and S_S explode with volume

======================================
------------------------------------------------------------------

8:42 PM

The trip back down took my longer than I thought, and I had to take another route to make sure no one saw me leaving the mountain. It's a bit dark, and I can hardly make out where I am going. Finally, I manage to locate the remains of the Zoo in domain. Standing where the gate used to be, I call in General Leo, punching in my 4 digit-code

"General Leo, Agent X reporting in. It is on my dishonor that I bring to you news of the death of Reynolds. There was nothing I could have done in my power. The cause of all that mishap, Agent Keith, has been dealt with accordingly. I have also discovered ..................."

5 Minutes Later

"and that is what brings me here to the Zoo Domain, General. I believe she is located somewhere around here, but I was not disclosed to any specifics, sir. I'd appreciate it if you could aid me from here on in. Agent X, over and out"

I didn't know exactly what X meant by saying Keith was "dealt with accordingly". They probably got into it pretty bad; the death of Reynold might have shaken X's mind, which already seems to have the screws of self-control a bit loose.

Still, this was no time to get details. The important thing was that Reynold confided SOME information before he was killed, and I was damn sure gonna use them to their full potential.

My eyes surveyed the monitor. X was surrounded by random fragments of marble and stone here and there, as if an ancient combat stadium had just been blown to smithereens and left nothing of importance. Even the bird on the branch chirping and pissing me off with its taunting sounds caught my attention in my desperation to see something of importance.

I decide to turn on the heat-sensor. I see some sort of large life-form and get overly-excited.

"X, I think there's a person somewhere to your right!"

X's head whirls to his right accordingly and he surveys the area with hungry eyes. Still, nothing but disappointment is shown in his features.

X: "There's nothing there but more fucking trees!"

"Shit... but the sensors are showing someo-- wait a second... of course! X, there's only one explanation! Whatever I'm picking up is UNDERGROUND!"

X is finally able to share in my excitement. He begins to scout the area not only with analytical eyes, but with fast-paced hands that throw pieces of stone around in hopes of finding something.

We saw the strange trapdoor almost together. X had flipped over a large chunk of marble and there it was: a man-made, wooden entrance leading into an underground tunnel.

The look on X's face told me he knew what to do before I even told him.

I follow X anxiously as he barricades the trapdoor beyond opening with the large chunk of wood he'd used not long ago.

I could feel the startled jumps of the agents passing by outside my office when I let out a shout of triumph along with X. A woman sat, curled up and sobbing away, tied to her hands and feet to the rugged, dirty wall.

"X, it HAS to be her! We've found her!"

X doesn't even respond to me. It's clear how overwhelmed with pride and joy he is that this woman is just a few yards ahead of him. The woman raises her eyes to X... but instead of equal cheerfulness, her eyes widen and her jaw drops: fear consumes her visage.

Ryan's Mother: "Get out of here! HE'S WATCHING ME!!!!"

It was like a scene straight out of a horror movie. Of course I gasped and almost fell on my back, as did X when he shared my sight.

A shadow emerged from WITHIN the jagged walls... a hand clapped over the woman's mouth; a hand protruding with black claws.

X whipped out his knife and stood his ground. The courage eminating from his heart was masked by shock.

X: "Who are you? Let her go!"

The creature's face comes into full view in the orange glow of the torch hanging on the wall. It is a man... but as he speaks, two fangs bask in the ominous lighting.

Awrius (calmly): "You may refer to me as Awrius, Earthling. I wasn't expecting anyone to find this poor woman. I suppose you have done something to my slaves?"

X seems rather at ease for someone who's speaking with an otherwordly beast. Either it takes a lot to get to him, or he should be in a movie rather than the OIA HQ.

X: "If you're talking about Reynold and his goons, then they're not gonna be making an appearence anytime soon. Why are you calling them your slaves?"

Awrius: "I suppose an Earthling as crafty as yourself deserves some answers before his death."

Awrius lets the woman go and steps in front of her, blocking her scared, wet face with the view of his frightful one.

Awrius: "Reynold and his friends became my slaves the moment my teeth sank into their necks. Your kind knows me as a vampire."

X: "Why are you here?"

Awrius: "We sometimes wander into Earth's night seeking a quick meal. I came here not long ago for the same reason, and realized how "ripe for the picking" your people were. I tell you, Earthrealm really IS a bloodfest, harboring much weaker victims than some of my realm's surrounding worlds. So I wanted to bring some... 'friends' over to share the treasure."

X: "The portal!"

Awrius: "Of course. I entrusted my slaves to open a gateway that would allow my people to freely roam the Earth, perhaps even bring back some food to last us years and save us precious hunting time. Now I ask you: where is my crystal?"

X is unafraid as he takes out the crystal and rubs it in Awrius's face from a safe distance.

X: "I have it now, buddy! I'm guessing that without this, your hopes for the portal come crashing down."

Awrius: "Correct once again, my friend."

I feel my body go limp when, with a simple extension of his right arm, Awrius attracts the crystal from X's hands to his.

Like an enraged murderer, X charges at the vampire with a war cry and a haymaker. Awrius teleports away from his spot, avoiding the punch, and reappeares on the other side of the cave.

Awrius: "My slaves were pathetic and unable to properly use this crystal. It will not take me so long to open the portal myself. Thank you for bringing it back to me in broad daylight, friend."

He swings the crystal and slices the air. A red flash, and a beam of crimson light flies from within the translucent crystal, blinding X, the woman being held captive, and even myself. When we safely open our eyes, the cave is ablaze with the intensity of a floating Free portal, shedding light onto the wicked smile of the beast.

Awrius: "It is only a matter of time until my comrades see that the portal has risen and come to meet me! Don't worry, friend. We will be out of your planet in very little time. You, however, will be our first take-out!"

If I was there, I would've stopped X. He rushes at Awrius a second time. The unexpectedness of his attack renders the creature unable to evade in time, and with a dropkick to the chest, he is thrown into the cave wall, causing a large group of debris to crumble and fall.

"X, you can't destroy him by yourself! I'm sending back up immediately!"

I run out of my office as X continues to do battle with Awrius. The last thing I saw before the monitor left my eyes was Awrius evading a combination of punches from X and retaliating with a roundhouse that has the agent nearly soaring into the portal, and his knife escaping his grip.

3 minutes later...

I step out of the discernibly-more-stable portal that has just emerged in the cave, followed by two other highly-skilled O.I.A. Combatants.

X and Awrius are trading unsuccessful punches with one another. The vampire's inhuman speed soon makes it self known, however, and X suffers hard rising kick to the midsection, toppling over.

"X, close the portal!"

Awrius has taken notice to his extra targets by now. He sends a black projectile at Combatant #1. I charge, along with Combatant #2.

Awrius skillfully evades my long chain of kicks, and still finds enough agility somewhere within him to shoot a second projectile at Combatant #2. I make use of his temporary distraction to land an uppercut to his jaw and a dropkick that juggles him in the air until he slams into the cave wall. I charge at him, staying on the offensive, but his speedy projectile is already flying at me. I am hurled in the opposite direction.

The old man started recounting the events of his childhood in Hobart, and I found myself drawn to his every word. Before I knew it, 2 days had passed. I went in search of the remains of the old zoo. I just hate trees....Ugh it feels like I've gotten nowhere. Before I know it, I stumbled upon the entrace of what appears to be a trapdoor....I can hear a battle ensue from behind it. It was barricaded shut....As I kick the piece of wood repeatively, I yell out "OPEN IT NOW! LET ME IN DAMN IT!"

Keith, I'm sorry to say this to you, but your post is gonna have to be disregarded. Before X posted, he message me requesting that, as he went into the cave, that it be barricaded beyond opening (he said he'd forgotten to do so in his post). Therefore, for the purpose of keeping the events of this thread understandable and without holes, it's not gonna fly. Any animosity can be settled when you get back to the base. Feel free to say the word "bitch" whenever you like once that happens, lol.

P.S.: Did you just give yourself powers that blow up cabins and forests and heals wounds? =S

My vision goes blurry as General Leo, I, and the two O.I.A agents fall in battle against the God-like being, Awrius. The sound of the General and our two Agents colliding with the ethreal projectiles created a deafening bang to my ears. Slowly but assuredly, I bring myself to a dog like position, barely having enough strength to take out Awrius within myself.

*BANG*

I see the General lurch backwards as he is met with a fierce impact of Awrius energy projectiles. The jet black ball of elemental force explodes yet again with the collapse of the sound barrier. With a heavy thud, the General lands horizontally alongside myself. Managing to get myself up, I quickly scour the room for my rusack- as it turns out, it lays not 10 feet from Awrius. Hearing a moan, I glance down at the General: he's getting back up to his feet, along with the other two agents. Realizing we have little time left, I quickly suggest to the General:

"Leo, we've got to shut down those portals! Distract this ugly fucker, and I'll get that portal closed."

FIGHT SCENE:

With a grin and a slight nod, he advances against Awrius, bare fisted but armed with fervor. His chain kick is easily evaded however, and it seems all is lost yet again as Awrius simply teleports out of the way and drives his elbow deep into the back of the General. Out of the blue, Combatants #1 & #2 attack Awrius with a sandwich like body slam. Unsuspecting, Awrius becomes the mayonaise between the white bread, falling hard to the floor. As soon as he falls, however, he teleports back to an unfamiliar fighting stance and sends uncountable projectiles at the agents. Each collision renders a cry from both warriors, and they fall back to the cold, musty cave floor, lifeless. Awrius grins, but his fanged smile is quickly turned into a toothless one as the General nearly forces his fist down the teleporting devil's throat with a surprise hook out of nowhere. Reeling backwards, Awrius seems to have been cut-open, but with the time-span of no longer than a snap of the fingers, Awrius attacks in a way that resembles Johnny Cage's teleporting kick. The General, having no time to react to this extremely speedy attack, is forcefully sent backwards, into the dust. Awrius grins again, his mouth filled with blood. His expression changes as he catches a glimpse of me, laying on the ground and nearly ready to toss the Magnetic Disruptor into the vortex-like Free Portal, it's ferocity defined every minute with it's cackle of lightning.

"Suck on THIS, MOTHERFUCKER," I yell with a blaze of glory.

Unbelievably, I hurl the bomb into the spiraling tornado of energy. As quick as lightning, Awrius teleports in front of the vortex and catches the bomb before it is able to become lost within the Free Portal. He pauses to check if he's caught the bomb, and cackles menacingly as he crushes it with his vicegrip. Still on the ground and shocked with disbelief, I drop my jaw: his amazing agility and reflexes are astonishing. Hope wasn't lost, as I still had my two magnetic disruptors within my rusack. Searching desperately, I pull out a condom by accident:

"FUCK!" I yell quite ironically.

Awrius inches towards me as I frantically feel around my rusack for the cold steel to create a freezing feeling across my hands. I look up to be sent backwards from a devlish roundhouse from Awrius, an unfamiliar taste left within my saliva. I collide against the wall winded, and slide down against it ever so gracefully. By this time, though, the General has recovered along with the Combatants, and resume their attack on Awrius. Although each fighter was no match for Awrius one-on-one, the tenacity and dilligence of the General's carefully planned tri-attacks sent the being spiraling backwards into the stone-carved walls. It seemed as though Awrius was down for the count. An unorthodox comment from the General himself:

"X! CLOSE THAT FUCKING PORTAL! NOW!"

By this time Awrius had regained his conciousness, and lunges soley for the General's throat, death intent in his glare. I used his blind anger to my advantage. Using what remaining energy I had left, scrambled over to my rusack and withdrew the two explosives from their storage. They beamed in the light provided by the portal as I launch them towards oblivion. Time slows down as they edge closer and closer to hell's hurricane, and I hear a distant yell from an unidentifyable voice just as the MD's erupt into a golden flame, searing inside the glowing gateway. The eruption causes me to go temporarily deaf as I see the interior of the vortex fizzle away, the only light left was from it's glowing exterior. The battle was not over yet, as I had to capture the remaining energy inside the TPA. Running back to my bag, a black projectile strikes me in the side of my ribs. I collapse backwards, the pain unbearably excruciating. I'm bleeding profusely, my fingers drenched in red failure. The world almost fades away, but I am reawoken with the General's battle cry: the combatants and himself have once again gained the upper hand against the bestial spectre.

"I've got to do this ... that portal's not done .. " My concious relays to me as I crawl towards my rusack.

Pulling out the TPA gives me strength- my job is almost complete. When the General sees this, a flash of reassurance washes over his battle-scared face. Awrius turns his head to see what his grin is of, and turns his attention back towards the General only to be met with a smooth uppercut from the great one. I switch the TPA and aim at the remaining essence of the Free Portal. With a click of the trigger, the TPA shows it's aptitude as elemental energy flows directly into the mouth of the vacuum-like fire-arm. As every last bit of portal flows inside, I yell out with pride and adrenaline"

"I'VE GOT IT!"

I awoke in the HQ med-bay.

FUCK!

That was the first word out of my mouth. Although the technology in the med-bay had healed my wounds, I was still in extreme discomfort. But that wasn't what was killing me on the inside. The first mission of my career, and it ended in failure. I wanted X's blood, but knew that he would be decorated, the more appreciated agent. I didn't know what I had to live for.

I looked down, next to me, on the floor, was my bag. I leaned over with an effort, and reached the bag. I picked it up, and placed it on my lap. I sat on, and opened it. I saw my unused Magnetic Disruptor, and put it on the table. I took the TPA out of it's case, and put it on the table, next to the MD.

The next item pulled out was the souvenier that I bought for the General. I had a sudden ure to smash it against the wall. X was probably higher in Leo's book than I was. I placed that on the table. The last item pulled out was my Glock.

The gun was still loaded, and still cocked to my surprise. I flipped the safety off, and examined the gun. I contemplated shooting myself, and I was ready to commit suicide. I placed the barrel in my mouth, and my finger went to the trigger. That's when the door opened.

"Get ready!"

X positions himself like an assassin nearing the right time to snipe the wandering target. He has his TPA Vacuum, pulsing with multi-colored energy, aimed directly at the beast, who continues to struggle for brutal dominance in the ongoing battle.

The combatants and I close in on Awrius together for a massive assault. He seems done for, but that changes when he crosses his arms in an "X", then outstretches them vehemently; dark smoke surrounds him as an endless horde of bats materialize around the vampire's body and, like colossal bullets, fly at each of us. I throw myself to my right; hitting my shoulder hard against a jutting stone probably feels much better than being carried away by ethereal bats, which, unfortunately, is the fate of the two combatants. I watch as they helplessly hover around the cave, shouting angrily and with pain as the bats attack and throw them around aimlessly.

I charge. A projectile comes my way, but being struck by it before taught me a valuable lesson that I took with me as I leapt over it with a flying kick. Awrius sidesteps the blow and throws two punches as I turn around. Thinking fast, I elbow his fists away before they make harmful contact and extend my right arm. The high-tech gauntlet cloaking it glows light blue in the blink of an eye before delivering a batch of concentrated energy to the monster's body. His boots leave tracks on the sullied soil as he slides back from the impact. I run after him before he can fully recover. With a single jump, I sink my left boot into his stomach, then punish his face with a flipping punt kick when he doubles over. When I land back on my feet, Awrius is flying in X's direction... the agent reactivates the TPA Vacuum... Awrius cries out as his back is hit with the force of a dozen boulders and he zips past me and is smeared like viscous liquid all over the cave wall.

One single motion is all it takes for me to withdraw a mid-sized, steel handle from my pocket, feverishly press the button on its core, and cause spiked ends to protrude from both sides.

Awrius is standing back up. I prepare to finish him off. As soon as his ghastly eyes fall upon the weapon in my hands, he utters a throaty growl and releases another of his agile projectiles. I swear to make him pay for believing I'd fall for the same trick more than once. Though a risky maneuver, I hurl my body into the air in evasion... I find myself upside down in midair fo a split second: that is the split second in which I aim for Awrius's chest and drive my weapon through it. I feel as though I could almost see into him... see the spiked end of the steel pierce his black heart and deteriorate what life he harbors inside of him.

My back suddenly clashes with the cave wall. In my desperation to finish off Awrius in that unlikely, though vital, moment, I clearly did not focus on a perfect landing from my flip. I fall with him to the terrain. Only difference is... I am alive.

Awrius's body crumbles into a pile of ashes...

The supernatural creeps hindering the combatants vanish along with the beast's life force. The Operatives fall to the ground as well.

Right now, X is the only one standing. He is breathing hard. His eyes are slightly broadened. His hand still grip the TPA Vacuum as though its victim could rise (again) from the dead at any given time.

5 Minutes Later...

I welcome the rays of sunlight plummetting onto the Hobart Zoo Remains. After the damp obscurity of that lethal cave, I think I'll spend many nights with the lights on, just to make up for the last half an hour.

An O.I.A. portal swirls securely beside me. This new one was our ticket out of Hobart and back to the O.I.A. HQ. I had a lot to do when I got back.

"I'm going to call the other agents and let them know that it's time to return to HQ, at last."

X nods. Ryan's mother stands right behind him. She is still shaken, but the relief hiding behind her traumautized features is perceptible.

I am about to radio in the other Rookies when I hear footsteps destroying twigs on the grass. In about .5 seconds, I have a gun pointing directly at the sound and am backed up by X and the other two combatants.

Barakaz_cuz comes into view.

Barakaz_cuz: "Don't shoot!"

"I should! Haven't talked to you in a while, B_C."

Barakaz_cuz: "It's that old bast--"

"This isn't the time. I need to speak with the other agents before uncovering the mystery of your actions and maybe assigning you which mop to start using."

I send a simultaneous message to all three remaining agents.

"Soul_Stealer, Keith, and sibunad. This is Gen. Leo. Come to the Hobart Zoo Remains in the the Domain. It is time to return to HQ. The case is closed."

After a few minutes of bumming B_C out by reminiscing about the mission and bitch-slapping one of the combatants (that ahole said, and I quote, that 'Awrius had to learn some Awrius-p-e-c-t.'), I finally see the shadows of the only two of the agents nearing our location in the horizon. Had Keith been sent back to HQ before I could check out the status of the situation? I was going to address that when I returned.

"I guess we're all set to go. Someone needs to return the woman to her son, though."

As I return to base, I am ashamed....I did so poorly on this mission, and have once again let General Leo Down.....I don't bother stoping and talking with the other agents....i just need some time to myself....but before I do that, I got to say hello to someone.

I walk through the halls of the OIA, until I reach the Medical Wing. I walk in, and see Agent Keith sitting there, with a gun to his head....maybe I should have let him pull it....Heh, probably would have if I had been thinking clearly...but I was surprised to see one of the most cocky agents imaginable about to end his own life.

" What the fuck are you doing with that? Omg...Don't tell me this is because you weren't the "hero" of the Mission? ....How Pathetic...."

I walk over slowly, and take the gun out of Keith's hand and toss it aside. I roll my eyes in disgust that he would even THINK about taking such an easy way out...of such a pathetic issue.

" Now to more important matters...Where the Hell is Nurse Rosa?"

I volunteer to take Ryan's mother back home, bloodied and bruised as I was. Upon arrival, Ryan slowly shifts his head at his bruised mother and runs into her open arms, and embraces her. All the while, I smile as a small portal leading back to HQ reveals itself to me not to far away from the sentimental scene before me. I don't stick around for goodbyes: this is my job, an OIA agent, protect and serve. With a heavy sigh, I slip into the portal and back into HQ, where I head off to the debriefing room
