I hated MK growing up for the same reasons I hated professional wrestling growing up. As a young gentleman I thought it was brutish, only meant for fratboys who can't charm their way out of a paper bag.

But JUST as my appreciation for the sport of pro wrestling blossomed after seeing it in action, it took only a couple minutes of footage of Mortal Kombat 3 to understand how lightly it took itself. It wasn't mindless violence; it was violence with heart and wit. And so it began...

My dad bought me MK3 for SNES for my birthday as a kid. That's about it.

When I was about four years old, I didn't know we had a nintendo 64, but my older brother and sister showed me the Super Nintendo. The first games I ever played were "Super Mario All Stars" and "Mortal Kombat 3" Now my two favorite franchises are Mortal Kombat and Super Mario.

Always Have been, always will be.

Im Sort of like that too.

I dont remember where or how I was introduced to MK2, but I remember it was definitely MK2 that got me hooked on the series. I was only 3 when MK2 came out...so I didnt catch on till I was about 5 or 6.

MK3 sealed the deal for me, and thus a long time fanboy was born.

The two series I have always been hooked on while gaming have been Mortal Kombat, and Tomb Raider, ever since the first one in 1996.v

The violence at that time was heavy. MK had it with those damn fatalities guys. I might have been in like 5th grade when me, and my friend(I dont even remember the kid, just the face.lol) played Trilogy. That game was so damn hot. You didn't have to unlock anybody, just pick a dude and rock out. Rain used to be my favorite because of that roundhouse kick. That was a long time ago. damn where does time go?

Damn, now I feel old reading about people playing at 5. I was ten when MK2 came out and got me into the series.

My dad got me into the series when I was like 5-6 years old. He bought Mortal Kombat 2 for SEGA GENESIS and the rest is history.
I got hooked on the Series since the first MK when Arcades ruled the land, lol. I was around 5, I remember my local laundry mat had MK and instead of washing my clothes in seperate loads, I played MK and would mess up the whites with them damn red shirts. Those were the days grin

I was 2.

Mortal Kombat 2 sticker album.
I fall in love with character backgrounds and storyline.

Because of this I'm still interested in story of the series much more than in other aspects of it.

My friend in 2nd grade told be about a wonderful game, a game where a guy named Scorpion rips a guys throat out. Never saw that, but I did see people from different realms with awesome powers beating the crap out of each other. MK4 was my first game btw. Then I pretty much worked my way back till Deception came out (missed the boat on MKDA until after a long long while)

Even though I was vaguely aware of the games, it was the movies that sold me on the series.

I saw an ad on a kid's TV show for MK1 before it came out. Real actors in a game. I was sold! Followed til MK4 then lost interest then MKD brought me back.

When I played MK1 when it first came out i longed for something like MKD konquest or MKSM, I used to draw maps of how i'd imagine the levels. So was so happy when my thoughts became real

Honestly? Street Fighter 2. I'm talking plain old original SF 2 as it introduced me to arcade fighters. I pumped a lot of my parents money into that game until I came across Mortal Kombat in all of its gory, trademark announcer, digitized character splendor. Watching Sub Zero rip a dudes head off only sealed the deal. It's funny, I remember deciding to main up Subbie because I liked the ninja characters but fucking EVERYONE played Scorpion because of the classic spear and "Get over here!" Ahhhhh....nerdy arcade memories.

When I was 7, my friend had MK on his Game Gear. It was the first video game I had seen that wasn't Super Mario or Duck Hunt, so it was something new and interesting for me, especially seeing the fatalities, like Scorpion's. My friend lent me his strategy guide and I memorized virtually every detail and would watch him play for hours. When I got a Genesis years later, my first game was MK 1. smile

I was in first grade and went to my neighbor's house who was playing the original on Sega Genesis. I was immediately interested and got it for SNES the following week or two. Since then, I've liked MK (w/ the exception of the hand held spinoffs, etc..).

I first got into Mortal Kombat in 1992 when my (to this day) best friend Jimmy had it for Sega, and we've been hooked ever since. I remember coming home from school, we were in like 2nd grade, and we would just play for hours upon hours, then when MKII came out it was so amazing. My mom wouldn't buy it for me (cause games back then were so damn expensive) and I would rent it every week and just play it over and over. I still remember Liu Kangs Dragon Fatality in MKII on Sega. Down, Forward, Back, Back, C lol

I remember hearing about MK when it first came out, kids at school described it as an "R-rated videogame," but I only had an NES and never went to arcades. Within the next couple years, I can remember friends playing it and/or MKII on SNES/Genesis, but I can't remember for sure if I ever tried playing it or only watched. then came the turning point when my sister bought an SNES and MKII. I still remember the day, June 30th 1995! I fell in love with it that damn night, and continue to love the series to this day. MKII will always be my favorite though.

I remember going to Pistol Pete's Pizza (now Peter Piper Pizza) for my 8th birthday, back when I was living in the US.

I didn't know of this game's existence, so I was playing other games, like ninja turtles, bad boys and such. I passed by the arcade many times (MK1), but since there were so many people around it, I just kept going my way. It wasn't until I used up all my money, and on my way for more, that I had a chance to see the pit fatality, HOLY CRAP! I stood there watching other people play and damn was it brutal.

I fell in love with it, and I didn't even get to play it that day.

I have MK1 and MK2 for the xbox and man, I still get that fuzzy feeling everytime I play it (even more when I order a pizza).

So am I the first who was there when it debuted in the arcades? Does that make me really old?! Now after reading everyone's post, there's a lot that were there for the beginning, so I don't feel as old now, haha.

Well, I was in the third grade and Street Fighter 2 was all the rage, but then stories started going around school of a new fighting game that had blood spatters and one of the fighters even rips your head off at the end. Intrigued, my brother and best friend immediately went to the local arcade, and there it was. We sat there and watched people play it for hours in awe. Have followed it ever since....

Man, do I miss those days!

I remember playing some MK game (not sure which) on my Playstation (1) when I was little (Yeah, I'm not as old as most of the people on this site). I used to lose on purpose just to see the fatalities that would be done on me. Ohh the good ol' days...

Lol, Nah that doesn't make you that old man!! I live in Naples and we have 1 busted ass arcade down here so therefore I wasn't able to be there when it debuted in arcades, but I had heard about it from my family in Detroit so I was able to talk my best friend into having his parents buy it for us haha.

I was at my cousins and he let me borrow MK2 for Snes. At the time I had no idea what MK was and when Cage ripped my torso off and chucked it on the ground I was like 'That....was awesome!!!!'. Been hooked ever since.
