I am interested in hearing what is required of MK 2011 to restore the franchise to its prior prominence within the fighting game community?

I am speaking predominately about the era of MK 1 & MK 2 where the game was arguably the most popular fighter available at that time.

I think what they're doing now. They've got a poster in time square, it's the most anticipated fighting game of the year, and it also helps that it has no real competition.

Assuming it was prominent in the first place.

It was never more popular than SSF2. Local experience may vary, but this is the only time MK had a serious chance to challenge other fighters via up to standard gameplay.

Never before. This is not exactly restoring. This is the first honest attempt to solidify MK as a fighting game worth picking up.

MK is actually alot more famous than sf

the problem was that after mk3, the games got less serious with alot of exploits which wouldnt allow for tourney play

This one can get patches, and we all know it will sell much more than the competition

theres really no need to be worried

MK titles usually sell around 3 mill but with the huge exposure and people all over the world feining for this game, i say the more the merrier

A good fighting game.

That's it.

And it's the one thing Mortal Kombat has been missing for fifteen years.

i have a problem with nrs even catering to tournament fighters.
what for? mk doesnt need a bunch of hardcore "im better than you cause i mastered a fighting game" idiots to vouch for it.mk is a deeper fighter based on story alone imo. all those idiots do is find glitches infinites and whatever else they waste 23 hours a day do with the game.
who cares what they think? fans from this website have better ideas and opinions than those stuck up pricks.mk is alot more than hitboxes and juggles.

Do you not want the game to sell or something? They are trying to maximize game sales.

"Hardcore" players aren't going to make millions of dollars for this game. People who have never even heard of a hit-box, will however.

I'm finding it hard to get into the serious fighting game scene, not because of the learning and getting good, but because of all the elitist "hardcore" (quotes very much intended) players who talk down to everyone because they don't share the same ideals.

Fans like you are part of the problem. It's not being elitist to demand quality out of a product.

And just because you aren't an elitist doesn't mean you don't want good gameplay. You can have good gameplay without catering to what tournament players expect. Making this game tournament worthy shouldn't even be the main concern. Getting the story good and making the gameplay better which is what they're doing. It doesn't need to be as deep as Street Fighter or shit like that to be a good game. And I'm tired of coming on here and seeing people like you post who believe their fucking opinions are fact and then talking shit about anyone who doesn't agree with you. If people believe the story is the most important aspect then that's their prerogative. Fans like him aren't the problem, as you like to claim, but it's elitist who like to bitch if things aren't up to their expectations and look down at others who have different opinions

It has always sold well because MK fans like every mediocre shit they release, like MKD and MKA.
