I would love to see a high level Scorpion at a tourney! Just some variety in general; I'm sick of all the usual suspects: Kitana, Kabal, Kung Lao. CD Jr. is probably my favorite to watch as of now just because he uses characters who had a lot of previously untapped potential (Jax, Rain). I know these tournies are about winning, and there's money involved, but the whole thing just gets kinda bland seeing the same few characters every time.

Can someone tell me if this statement is correct?: Without excellent zoning a character is not tournament viable. (I think Johnny Cage is an exception because he isn't a great zoner, but he is probably the best rushdown character in the game). :)

Sonya is pretty nasty and she's a rushdown character too. Kung Lao and Raiden are obviously great as well.


I'm actually very pleased with character variety, especially when you analyze it over the course of time, since the game came out.

Early on everyone was crazy about Ermac, Smoke and Kung Lao. Then Ermac and Smoke vanished (except for Aris' Smoke), Kung Lao continued going strong. Then at the national PDP tourney, an army of Cyrax players emerged. Going into Evo, Reptile and Kabal (and Kung Lao) seemed to be on top. After Evo, Kitana joined the party as well as Jax and Sonya.

All the time, Brady was reppin' Sub-Zero and Valle and Detroit were reppin' Shang Tsung, plus Evo showed us some great Cage and Raiden stuff thanks to J.O.P. and Mileena thanks to REO. There's also Dizzy's Cage (very good) and some J. Wong Raiden footage from pre-Evo time plus Maxter's (Season's Beatings) and B Wizz's (Devastation) Radien..

And most of the other "in-the-shadow" characters have had someone reppin' them: Scorpion (Slips & Check), Sektor (Sektroll and Maxter), Cyber Sub-Zero (REO), Kano (JT Circus) etc.

I think the character variety is pretty good actually. Especially when you look further than top 8. Devastation had a Quan Chi just barely come short of top 8.

BTW myself, Slips and Dizzy guest appeared on the Power Up podcast recently. Powerupfighters.com. It covers a lot of the same ground.

Episode 3 of Kombat Tomb is coming soon. The guest may be Tom Brady if we can get him. He's kind of mad at us now lol. If not we may have a sub. We're trying to get A Foxy Grampa if he's available or Maxter.

Slips is just so hilarious! Love his mentality when he loses a match after having won the first round lol.

Also loved your interpretation of zoning Kitana as a villain for Morty's rushdown Sonya, that was awesome! I enjoyed the matches between the two of you at Devastation. The most interesting thing about that match-up is the situation when Sonya has the life lead and Kitana is forced to come in. It's like walking into a death trap and you're aware of it. But you just have to do it, otherwise Sonya will just keep ducking the fans and occasionally fire some rings for extra life advantage. Love the way you did it at Dev, one of the best things I've seen from all the tourney footage I watched and I watched a lot, trust me.


Brady's mad? Awww lol. I can't wait to see him play with Sub-Zero against a good Kitana player and see how his new anti-Kitana strategy plays out. I noticed they didn't list her as a bad match-up for Sub-Zero in the latest tier-list. Interesting... Would be fun to listen to him on the podcast as well for sure. Maxter and F0xy, especially F0xy, would be cool too.

Oh and, there's a chance that both, you AND Mr. Mileena, will be at SCR? Wow! Can't wait for that, especially with you sounding so confident about your performance!

Mr. Mileena is confirmed for SCR. Plus Shords is one of Socal's best players and Wrath is Norcal so he may come down. So there should be a LOT of fans being thrown at that tournament.

Tom ended up doing it and was pretty awesome. It went even longer than episode 2 lol.

I don't think that one has a video version, it was an interview written on Shoryuken.com by Delriach.

I remember watching a video interview with Perfect Legend and Tom Brady with Medina as a host and interviewer. I'm not sure if I watched it live or recorded though. It was in early/mid November, when PL and Brady were special guests along with NRS guys at the Galloping Ghost Arcade.


Shame on me, but I still haven't checked out Mustard and Mikey Podcasts and I'm starting to panic now since the new one is just around the corner. I'm falling behind badly.

Good stuff with Mustard! I still have to get around to listening to the Michaelangelo one, though.

EDIT: OK, so I finished listening to the Podcast feat. Mustard (and Ketchup). Very entertaining, the twins are super fun and very interesting to listen to! Here are my favorite parts:

PART 3: Very happy to hear that Mustard is very optimistic about Mortal Kombat being at Evo2012. If he were to bring 5 UK players to compete with the US guys, he'd take himself (playing Cyrax) and his brother Ketchup (as a Sektor player), plus F0xy Grampa (Sonya/Cage), UsedForGlue (Cyber SZ) and HelterSkelter (Mileena/Skarlet). He likes Erik Warda's Kabal and feels it's a shame he doesn't play anymore. *Erik's Kabal was super fun to watch and he was also good with the mic, so yeah I too miss him.* His 5 US picks were REO's Kabal, 16-bit's Kitana (although Slips disagrees lol), Tom Brady's Sub-Zero, DetroitBalln's Shang Tsung and CD Jr.'s Jax.

PART 5: Some funny geography talk plus Slips' hilarious Modern Warfare II moment where he shot everyone at the airport, including the crawling old lady- LOL!

PART 6: Ketchup is knocking at the door and the other guys are wondering how come he doesn't have a key lol. Also, 16-bit's hilarious "So, do you guys feel each others pain?" line!

PART 7: Mustard says he enjoyed MK4 and thought it was awesome (played Jarek/Fujin). *Damn, I too love MK4 and Fujin!* Says his 3 fave MK characters in general are Cyrax, Kano and Shang Tsung. He also felt disappointed with how sluggish Kano felt to play with in the most recent game, just wasn't diggin' him so to say.

PART 8: Ketchup takes over! He believes Sektor is Top10 and the best 5 in his opinion are Kabal, Cage, Sonya, Kung Lao and Mileena/Kitana/Raiden. He believes Sonya is better than Cage.

PART 10: 4 characters Ketchup hates fighting: Raiden, Mileena, Kung Lao & Smoke.

PART 12: Mustard is back on. Everyone misses Trophy Club and Sektroll (so do I T.T). They do some funny Tom Brady impersonations lol. *Damn, you just can't talk MK without mentioning Brady lol.*

PART 17: Kabal and Kitana briefly talked about as two best characters in the game. They also talk about new-tech teasers and how annoying they can be (I agree!).



Very entertaining and hopefully the twins make it to Evo next year! Super cool guys! Oh and, massive respect for Mustard for playing Cyrax so efficiently without using the resets (this doesn't mean I disrespect players that do use them). Looking forward to seeing them both in action again, especially Ketchup as I'm very fond of Sektor.

EDIT II: OK, so I checked out the episode feat. Michaelangelo as well. It was nice hearing from him after a while. He has an official website but he doesn't even have a PC, that's kinda funny lol.

I really enjoyed the Harry Potter movies (mentioned in part 1), even though I have never read any of the books. I agree with Slips that the first couple of movies were a bit "for the kids", but from the 4th movie onwards I really enjoyed them. However, while Slips doesn't seem to like the last two movies, those are actually my favorites.

Too bad that Mikey vs REO match at Evo wasn't recorded, interesting to hear Mikey say that's his fave match. I didn't know he put REO into the losers bracket. (this is also from part 1)

(part 3) So Mikey is not sure if he's gonna be at SCR, but REO is coming? Awesome and "ouch"! :p Interesting to hear Mikey say that hit box shouldn't be banned and also interesting to hear that he's been messing around with Stryker and Quan Chi.

(part 4) Mikey vs REO first to 10 with 10 different characters would be amazing! Interesting discussion about REO and the way he picks characters. I once asked him via chat during VSM if we'll ever see him play Kitana and I got a negative answer, boo :p Apparently he doesn't like her new "stripper" design.

(part 5 - the most hilarious one) Cookie? LMAO!!! One of the highlights of Evo2011 for me! "He does that on a daily basis" lol! LOL @ Mikey dressing as Cage and throwing tennis balls as projectiles! And the funniest moment when his dog starts to bark and he yells at the dog to shut up, lmao!

(part 6) Interesting to hear that it was MKDA that got Mikey into the franchise.

(part 7) An interesting thing mentioned by 16-bit about online play and connection quality (players with 2 or 3 bars)- I've never seen anyone with less than 4 bars on PAL PSN, but matches with easily noticeable lag still happen here and there. LOL @ Slips knowing when someone is a jerk even if they don't say anything online- 16-bit: "Did he say anything?" - Slips: "No, but he's thinking it." lmao, classic Slips moment.

(part 13) So Mikey's top 5 are Kabal, Kitana, Raiden and Scorpion/Ermac. As for his bottom 5, he mentioned Sheeva, Sindel, Stryker and then it got a bit confusing so I'm not sure who the other 2 are. LOL @ 16-bit's "Do you think Shao Kahn ever rides Motaro?".

(part 15) Slips: "No one gives a shit about Kitana." - Nephrite: "STFU!" :p

(part 17) So Mikey finds it hardest to fight against Reptile with Kabal. Interesting listening to the Terminator vs Terminator 2 small debate and while 16-bit makes great points why T1 should be considered a superior film, I have to say that I prefer T2 simply because it was more fun to watch and I was really scared of T-1000. However, I haven't seen those movies in ages, so who knows...

I'm aware I'm double posting and I apologize, but HOLY SHIET were the parts 5 and 6 (this one especially!!!) of the podcast feat. Perfect Legend AMUSING!!!


Tom apparently calling 16-bit "small potatoes" at ECT?! Really?! OMG the attitude.

This one was my fave though- 16-bit ranting about Tom calling Crazy Dominican the best Kitana player while calling him and Mr. Mileena irrelevant and then 16 concludes the rant with:

"Crazy Dominican should be more like me!" And the reaction from the other guys: "OOOOOOOOH DAAAAAAAAAAMN!"




Then in part 7 Slips takes on Brady and holy strawberry! He even went on to say Tom's behaving like a woman and that he should get a d*ck. OMG Slips, you're gonna kill me one of these days!




Part 9 - 16-bit: "Do you think I see myself as a princess?" -> LMFAO!!! Oh and the mental image of 16-bit square a$$ing to work... Oh good lord helps us all! lol

Part 10 - Slips: "I kind of envision everyone as an idiot." LMAO! Oh and PL's top5 are: Smoke, Sektor, Raiden, Reptile and Tsung. I think he/they forgot to name the bottom 5 in the end.

Part 11 - People still haven't received their Devastation prize money? Wow! Oh and, another wicked poke of 16's at Brady: "Unlike some people I'm not gonna assume I'll beat them in the runback". lol

Part 13 - LOL @ Kitana suiting Obama's play style.

Part 15 - unlike Mikey, PL thinks the hit-box should be banned.


OMG, I think I'm gonna listen to parts 5, 6 and 7 a few more times.
